“Very nice hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 November 2013 via mobile

We arrived early and we're reminded that our room would not be available until 3pm.....the time stated on out booking terms and conditions. We waited in the great scots bar for a phone call and right enough our room was ready for bang on 3. The room was dark as previous reviews stated but very luxurious. Nice loch view which we had booked for or expected. When we enquired on check out it was revealed we were upgraded to a suite which was a nice touch. Used all three restaurants while there with the grill house being our favourite. Although the grill was expensive the food was brilliant. The leisure facilities were good too with a large pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. All in all more expensive than other places we have visited but well worth the money.

Friendly staff met us and showed us to our room. Very good quality fixtures and fittings. Shower failed to drain properly, and left the toilet area under 2 inches of water.
Long gloomy hotel corridors. Well appointed Great Scots Bar, let down by truly awful service. The teenage barmen should be sent out to work in a busy pub, and learn the business.
The Grill Room, with its cafeteria style bench seating, has pretensions of fine dining. It fails- it is merely expensive, and overpriced.
Wonderful views of Loch Lomond are the hotel's best feature.

NGO

Room Tip: Loch view in the summer. Room that does not involve a 10 minute walk to the bar and restaurant......

On our arrival we were asked to 'help them out' as they were very full so agreed to stay one night in a luxury lodge then have use of a suite for our other 2 nights. We did agree and had a dinner, bed & breakfast rate. The lodge was lovely although cold on our arrival as no heating on. We ate at the Boat House first night - fabulous! The braised beef daube was delicious, my only complaint was I couldn't finish it, despite my very best efforts. The lodge had a sauna in one of the 3 bathrooms, nice touch!
The suite we had was also nice, although furnishing dark and the lighting not very good, especially trying to my make up on! Again, no main heating but a convector heater in the room was very efficient and quite adequate for us. The view was superb across the loch with the snow topped mountains in the background against a clear blue sky. I had booked a Spa Day with the local Carrick Spa and transport was available between the 2 - a very relaxing day and I had a great (almost) 2hour treatment plus lunch. Breakfasts in the Cameron Grill were good, I thoroughly enjoyed the fruit and Cameron porridge whilst my husband had the full cooked breakfast. Evening dinners were good, but we did feel the food at the Boat House better.
Beds were very comfortable and the showers enormous in both lodge and suite.

Room Tip: If you get chance to upgrade to a Suite - it is a very pleasant experience and get one with a view o...

65th birthday celebration for my husband. Awesome experience. 5 star treatment from start to finish. Faultless service. Can't wait to go back. Food was amazing. We had an amazing dining experience at Martin Wishart. Pricey, but unbelievable. Breakfast was something else.

We were looking forward to our trip as planned to spend the three days at the Carrick Spa (which is world class by the way).

Our initial room was very nice albeit extremely dark but with lovely views of the loch. It is much easier for the cleaning team when the rooms are dark as much is hidden! Several of the light bulbs were also not operational.

The sound proofing in this hotel is not up to scratch at all. Our charming neighbours were shouting at each other over the noise of a blasting television until 1am or thereabouts when I gave up and asked to be moved. We had to go to reception and collect a new room key and move ourselves would you believe it! We were moved to a twin room (we quite like king thank you) on what seemed like a dark back basement corridor with filthy carpets. The room was not clean at all and the pillows absolutely stank of hair grease and dirt. The duvet cover although presumably clean was on top of a duvet that was very smelly and dirty. There were also dubious brown stains in the lavatory.

We naturally complained the next day and were offered the customary apologies etc. We were not interested and left the hotel that morning and will not be back.

As aforementioned the do a is fantastic but the hotel is seriously lacking in cleanliness and service. What a pity!

This is a BIG hotel facility so if you are looking for small and intimate this is not the place for you. The location is amazing however and the rooms overlooking the Loch are lovely. The fan on the air con in our room (No 27) was however rather noisy so we had to switch it off. The hotel had booked us into the Boat House restaurant (because the Cameron Grill had been booked out for a private function the day we were there (lots of teachers having a conference). Unfortunately when we enquired with the customer relations manager whether there was an alternative (to this very informal venue) she was not at all helpful. She failed to mention that the hotel also boasts a Michelin starred restaurant that turned out to have available tables. Perhaps she was too quick to assume that I couldn't afford to eat there since I only had my anorak on when I spoke to her. Her unhelpful attitude was unfortunate as the rest of the staff we encountered were lovely and very helpful.

This has to be the best hotel that we have ever stayed in in Scotland. The location is perfect and the staff are a credit to this hotel. All staff were welcoming, polite and provide a service to the highest standard. As a result, this hotel represents all that is great about Scotland. The spa is amazing and well worth the extra £39 per person. We ate in the Boat house and thoroughly enjoyed the food. The Australian sauvignon was an excellent wine and the home made pizzas were delicious. I had the italian sausage pizza which was actually pepperoni but it was still very tasty. The only small change we would recommend would be to use chills instead of jalepinos. The Scots bar provides a great setting for drinks and the drinks are reasonably priced. Again, a tiny recommendation would be to reconsider the music played in the bar. Despite the few small insignificant changes we suggested, this hotel is outstanding and we would highly recommend a visit to this hotel! We can't wait to go back!
