“Weekend of relaxation and pamper”
Reviewed 26 February 2014 via mobile

My fiancé booked us a weekend here as a Christmas/valentines and just general relaxation weekend before the crazy wedding season started. Check in was simple and quick, we were early so our room wasn't ready. We had a walk round the grounds and checked in when the room was ready about 3pm. We booked a junior suite with loch view. Wow it was gorgeous!! Bed was huge although yes it was a bit disappointing to be two singles pushed together it really wasn't a big issue as they were super comfy. The view was beautiful even on a rainy day! Everything in the room functional and clean/in good condition. Room was really well equipped and I likedl the visitor information book it was really handy. We booked the rasul mud experience at the carrick for the day. We loved it!! Nice to use the facilities and especially the roof top pool. The mud bath itself was amazing, skin felt super soft afterwards. Could have lazed about the spa allll day long had it not been for a restless fiancé. Transport to and from the carrick was great, don't realise the distance so was much appreciated. We booked the boathouse for dinner and it was really nice, spaghetti and pizza with wine, beer and dessert. All great portion sizes and well priced. Rose wine was really nice and the staff very attentive. Boathouse has a lovely setting and great views. We then went to the great scots bar for cocktails which were lovely, really nice decor and kept us entertained guessing the great scots on the wall! We ordered breakfast in bed both mornings and thought it was well worth the £5 tray charge! Food was lovely and if you made sure you ate your hot food first it was always nice and warm. I also ordered a baileys hot chocolate from room service at night, it wasn't on the in room menu but the staff were happy to make it for me which was nice, we also had a sweet tooth so they sent is up some petit fours which we were happy to gave added to the bill bit on check out they were complimentary. Very nice touch. We visited the wee shop and thought it very quirky. I treated myself to a bath bomb for later and there was a great choice and reasonably proved. Lots of nice goodies to pick from. On our second night we booked to dine at the grill. The food was lovely and well worth the cost. Checkout although busy was very efficient and staff couldn't have offered to do more to help us. Overall a really good stay. Not something we could afford to do often but well worth the treat now and then. Would recommend to anyone.

Here for a week end and can't fault it. Check in pleasant, straight forward, welcoming. The room was clean, cosy and very comfortable. We used it more as a base and spent a good bit of time revisiting 'old haunts' mainly eating out. Breakfast was good with a wide choice, in fact the breakfast room was quiet, with only a handful of people , each time we visited.
All staff, had a ' good morning' as we passed and were helpful , when approached.Unfortunately didn't have time to try any spa treatments but will the next time. Would certainly recommend.

Our visit didn't start well as room wasn't ready at check in. Reception took phone number and promised to call when room was ready and deliver our luggage to the room for us. Didn't think much of it and headed to the bar for a pint thinking the room wouldn't be long.

An hour later no call so my partner returned to reception and was finally given card for the room but no explanation for the lack of a call. Our case was still at reception too, but we decided to leave it and let them deliver it to the room since they knew we now had a room allocated.

Our room was in what looked like a modern addition to the old house. Obviously being on a special deal we only got a fairly standard room which didn't really have any special features or charm.

A while later we headed out to explore the grounds and met the porter taking our bag to the room! Must have been terribly busy as it was now only 2 hours since we arrived!!!!

We dined in the boathouse on our first night and the Cameron Grill on the second. The Boathouse is obviously popular with families and is more modestly priced than the restaurants in the hotel. The Cameron grill is much more expensive but there's also a much more sophisticated offering too.

We used the leisure facilities on our second day. Nice to have separate adult only pool and jacuzzi. We did hear one of the members commenting on some maintenance issues with the gym which had been waiting repair for quite some time but didn't venture in there myself.

Breakfast both days was in the Cameron grill too. Long queues at times to be seated and noticed the host clearing tables in an effort to seat customers more quickly. Some of the buffet needed topping up but staff seemed slow to notice this.

Our overall impression was the hotel failed badly to live up to it's 5 star rating. The level of staff available to look after the customers seemed well below what was required. Housekeeping couldn't make rooms available for the official check in time, reception didn't keep promises to keep in contact, porters slow to deliver bag, lack of staff in bar to provide a table service in a large busy bar. Makes me think the accountants are dictating the service rather than what you'd expect in a top quality hotel.

Won't be rushing back here any time soon, in fact will probably look for a Marriott somewhere if looking for a bit of luxury as they have a much better customer focus.

There was a long queue at check in and our room wasn't ready, we were told to go along to the bar for a drink and reception would phone us when our room was ready. After waiting 25 minutes at the bar trying to get served, we were eventually served and our order (2 glasses of wine) was taken. We then waited another 15 mins and watched in amazement as the lady who had taken our drinks order appeared to have completely forgotten about us and no drinks arrived. We complained at reception and we're told to relax in our room and the manager would phone us. We were in the room for 30 mins before we received a phone call, we were promised a complimentary bottle of wine with our dinner at The Boat House and this arrived as promised. We found the cleanliness in the public areas of the hotel was not good, the carpet in the Whisky Bar was dirty with peas/bread/crumbs not getting cleaned up. The bar area was full of dirty glasses and the shelving areas were dusty. Also we sat by the window at the Cameron Grill for breakfast and the trailing curtains were dusty and the floor area had obviously not been cleaned for sometime. We had a fantastic meal at Martin Wisharts Restaurant, the food and the service was amazing. After several stays at Cameron House (and our son's wedding there 2 years ago) we really feel that the hotel is losing it's luxurious reputation, which is sad as it's always been such a treat for us to stay there. We won't be back unless we see that the hotel are listening to customer comments.

My boyfriend & were having drinks at hotel bar when we decided to stay the night instead of driving back. Had dinner & breakfast at the restaurant which was very good.
Then we checked in...
The reception guy 21 yr old with mousy brown hair) had quite an attitude from the start. This pretty much set the tone for our stay. We reserved a lake view room but all we got was a view of the front door... I guess if i look far enough into the distance, i could see the lake. The second problem was the bed in room #17 i believe was very old. The mattress was worn down, the springs were practically visible and the whole bed shook everytime we moved! I called the front desk & complained but they wouldn't move us. He lied & said it was the ONLY room available... We had the worst nights sleep. We woke up too tired to take advantage of the facilities or the hikes along the property. I saw the same guy at the desk (attitude & all) the next morning when i checked out. Luckily another woman assisted us & gave us a small discount when i complained. When i complained to the guy he said (oh sorry) and kept on doing what he was doing. So cold & RUDE! Had we been in the states, i would have handled him differently...
The room over all was okay, not that exciting...
Can't comment on the amenities such as the gym since i couldn't enjoy them...
Its a great place to visit & have drinks.. The bar is nice & well stocked but the over all service is a bit snooty!
I would stay at a cozy B&B instead ... Loch lomand has plenty of them.

We have recently returned from a weekend stay at Cameron House Hotel. We took my parents as a thank you after our wedding last year; it was a special occasion and had chosen a 5* resort to reflect its significance.

We received a very warm welcome and whilst our room was not ready on arrival, we were happy to settle ourselves in the Great Scots Bar to enjoy a light lunch. Unfortunately our lunch was a "comedy of errors" from start to finish: a lengthy delay in taking both a drinks order and a food order, our drinks order being forgotten, our drinks order being wrong, our food being paraded around the bar area in front of us whilst the waiter tried to work out where it was going, only for the food to be taken back into the kitchen to reappear again 5/10 minutes later. I made the hotel aware of the situation and was promised complimentary wine with our evening meal and they did not charge us for lunch.

We had our evening meal in the Cameron Grill and the food was excellent. Unfortunately, when the bill arrived, it was wrong. They had not acknowledged the fact that we were on a DB&B rate meaning they had not applied the relevant discount; there was certainly no sign of the complimentary wine promised only a few hours previous and they had sought to charge for items twice. I made the restaurant aware of the mistakes and they apologised, applied the DD&B rate and did not charge us for the extras (a saving of about £100-140) but not before telling us that the reason for the confusion was because I had "asked the wrong person for the bill."

Whilst the hotel addressed both complaints head on and applied discounts well in excess of anything I was expecting, it should not be necessary to complain twice about poor customer service during a one night stay at a 5* resort. Whilst we very much enjoyed our stay, the need to complain certainly took the shine off what should have been a luxurious stay at one of Scotland's premier hotel offerings.

The hotel, however, is beautiful; the rooms fantastic; the setting perfect; the food excellent. The hotel really do need to address staffing levels and invest in better training for the staff they do have.
