“All The Right Ingredients But If Only The Execution Was Better”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

We stayed for a long weekend away with two children in a family room. Whilst the family rooms do not provide much space for kids I suspect if yours are like mine then a bunk bed and a TV means they are more than happy. Indeed the location, activities and facilities at this hotel are as good as anywhere I've been in the UK. There is a huge amount to do even if the weather is against you. The decor at Cameroon House will divide many and personally whilst I liked many of the soft touches I found it too dark. The room shower, towels and bedrobes were all excellent as were the bedding and bed comfort. Moving on to the staff begins to hint at inconsistent management, with the door staff helpful and welcoming and the the cleaning staff excellent. But we found the reception chaotic and less then welcoming and also found this at the pool and with some of the restuarant staff. For example on reporting a leak from our bathroom sink we were told that maintaince staff did not start until 09:30am. Breakfast was fine but very ordinary and other hotels in this market have upped their game going for high quality local produce. This felt like it was done en masse to meet a price. Whilst I understand that a hotel like this will always do a good trade in weddings it seemed that the vast majority of attendees did not stay and on one evening several taxi/mini bus horns sounding at 1am was not appreciated and they would do well to find an alternative entrance/exit for party goers.... and smokers. This could and should be a fabulous retreat to relax and be pampered. Unfortunately it's all a bit mass market. It would not take a lot to change and I very much hope it does as we would suit us very well as an annual long weekend destination.

Check in was pleasant by Pamela. We had upgraded to a Loch view room, however we were slightly disappointed and if we had been staying longer than the 2 nights we would have complained. In our opinion we felt the décor was very dark and it was a very hot room, even with the noisy air conditioning on. We ate at the Boat House both evenings which was a pleasant walk and experience. Service at breakfast was indifferent, the waitress we had serving us the first morning had taken the order from the table next to us, but whilst taking our order hadn't finished with the first table and kept us waiting whilst still dealing with their order. Not very professional. Not what you would expect from a 5* establishment. It was a good choice of fresh fruit etc from the buffet. Hot food wasn't as good as it could have been.
The second morning was a nightmare, guests had decided to group together taking their luggage in with them, blocking the walk ways.
Good location for the hotel on the side of the Loch with fantastic views from the gardens.

Very very disappointed, room small carpet stained dust on view as we were there for only one night thought just get on with it. Went for evening meal in the grill poor poor service ordered meal had a problem with it (felt sorry for young waiter) trying to deal with it. No sign of restaurant manager when found her just shrugged her shoulders. Breakfast was a joke the whole experience was just one big big let down. It's a shame as was really looking forward to staying there.

We were looking forward to our stay here after busy Edinburgh but were slightly disappointed. Our room was okay and the views were wonderful but the food wasn't as good as I would of expected breakfast was okay but I think we had been spoilt in Edinburgh. The weather was great during our stay and we saw Loch Lomond at its best. Probably would not stay here again.

Lovely Hotel, views spectacular, Spa disappointment due to unwavering staff time wise through no fault of our own (mini bus late in delivering us to Carrick location in time). Staff at Spa economical with truth re timing of our arrival. Breakfast staff very haphazard , had to ask for toast three times & veggie breakfast took 40 mins to arrive, after a second reminder. Boathouse meal excellent but unwavering chef re Cullen Skink and removal of mussels. Room was lovely but room for improvement in other areas. Could not get seat for ten in Scots Bar after dinner due to tables being reserved then never occupied. Not what I would expect from this level of Hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms very good, spacious & well decorated.

My husband and I stayed here in March for a belated anniversary trip. I have always wanted to visit this hotel and I was not disappointed. Loved every minute and had a fabulous trip. Room was smaller than I expected after reading reviews on it, we had opted for a larger room Chambre Unique Lock View, but not as good as expected, view was wonderful and it did not spoil the break and we will visit again.

One thing we were told that we would receive an email survey so that we could comment on our trip, but have never received this so have not been able to explain our views on the room.

Room Tip: I can't do this as I was disappointed with our room. But Lock view has to be the choice

Beautiful House, beautiful location but ultimately Cameron House feels like a Las Vegas theme hotel.

The staff are friendly and helpful but that's the best of it.

It's well worn and our bathroom had mould and flaking paint. The food is very average and the whole place feels a bit dirty.

Probably won't be back.
