My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights during the Commonwealth Games. The Hotel is in a great setting at the side of the Loch and next to the sea plane launch. We had two rooms (we upgraded on the second night) and both were beautiful and spacious with all you would expect for a hotel of this type. The decor of the hotel has a great but subtle Scottish feel throughout. We used the bar for lunch and the service was a little slow and the staff were friendly enough not in tune with each other - we had to wait for the drinks (3 waters and a beer) and also the food took too long – it wasn't busy. Having said that the food was very good. The breakfast on both days was a similar affair to the bar, with the staff not paying attention to the tables – although the 2nd day was better – again, the food was very good and plenty of it on both days. The eggs Benedict was fab! We dined at the Martin Wishart restaurant on one night and it was fantastic, definitely worth booking (separate review). The general staff at the hotel were very helpful and friendly and dressed beautifully in Scottish attire – I trust the bar and breakfast staff were just having off days.
We visited the Garrick Spa (2 miles via shuttle) which was also beautiful in a great setting next to a lake and golf hole, my wife was more than happy with her treatment, my 'sports massage' was poor and not deep enough (but that seams to be how they are at all spars). We also fitted in a tour of the Loch on our final morning which was very nice and great to see things from a different perspective. The information given by our guide was very interesting and her knowledge about the area was impressive. I would not hesitate to visit again as the general running of the hotel was fantastic and I'm sure the (very few) shortcoming were just a hiccup. Thanks guys

Room Tip: Book for the Martin Wishart restaurant. Ask for a Loch view. Take the Lock tour (take a mac as the w...

I cannot believe the reviews i am reading below, these people clearly werent staying at the same hotel as us!! This place is superb. The staff are so helpful and friendly, they couldnt do enough for us. The hotel throughout is stunning and spotless. The fascilities are fantastic including the amazing swimming pool with flume/sauna/hot tub. We stayed in a "standard" room which was gorgeous and had absolutely everything we could of needed and more. We had dinner in the hotels resturant and breakfast the next morning, both were 5 star couldnt fault a thing! Check in and out was simple and no problems whatsoever. I even left my swimsuit in the room, after checking out I went back several hours later and it was at reception waiting for me. We will def be back!

Have spent a week in one of the lodges of the resort. The lodge was OK. The weak WIFI was one of the unexpected limitations in such a supposed high level site. Service in all facilities has a lot of space for improvement. Staff does not meet expectations. Last but not least we were very upset when we were asked UKP45,- per hour of extension on the day of departure. This is pure robbery.

Room Tip: WIFI very poor in the lodges

My husband and I stayed here for our first Anniversary. We had both heard a lot about it and we were not disappointed. Our room was well appointed (although some scuffs to pieces of wooden furniture).

Bed was perfect, so comfortable and bedding was a high quality white cotton.

Breakfast in our room was lovely and the gluten free options were good. (I had advised in advance and unfortunately there was no gf cereal/muesli but staff were very apologetic about this)

Swimming pool and spa is also very nice.

We dined in the boathouse and in the restaurant in the hotel both were lovely. The boathouse was more relaxed dining where the restaurant in the hotel was more fine dinng.

Will definitely stay again and next time will use the Carrick Spa Facilities!

getting late in our trip and we thought we would treat ourselves to a upper class resort. Booked thru Booking.com so of course we expected to pay as we checked out as per the confirmation. We even got an email with an opportunity to upgrade the room for a nominal fee which we agreed to.

we should have known we were in for a disappointment when we arrived, you drive in to the resort but need a GPS to find out where your supposed to go to check in since it's quite drive to the front of the hotel. The front is tiny circular driveway which has 3 hotel limos parked in it as we tried to check in, needless to say valet parking was the only option, when you're on a three week trip you never really know what you're going to need from the car so valet parking was the last thing we were interested in.

The hotel grounds are beautiful alongside the Loch and lots of open spaces, in stark contrast to the hotel who's décor is overpoweringly dark. Needless to say our offered upgrade was not available, a marketing ploy I guess at check in we were told we needed to make a reservation for dinner as the receptionist reeled of the names of the restaurants. I appreciate being told I need to make a reservation for dinner but expecting me to decide on the spot when I don't know what's in the hotel and where else I might go seemed a bit overpowering yet again.

The room itself was nice with a large bed but again so dark the even the light weren't sufficient to brighten it up. We made our way to the main bar where at least the wait staff and bartenders were cheery and friendly. Of course by the time we were ready to eat there was no reservations available, fortunately one of the bellhops pointed us to a pub in town.

Breakfast the next morning was a disaster, we were seated in the back since it was busy, so far from the front that we didn't realise there was actually a hot breakfast buffet. We ordered from their menu along with coffee and milk, I'm still waiting for the milk to arrive, we had to take some from the table that was beside us along with cutlery and a cup, which created a similar problem when someone sat at that table. I have never seen such a disorganised place, it seem to be a bunch of kids who had had no training and no supervision. unbelievably it was worse the next morning, we should have known better.

The next evening we made a reservation at the Boathouse restaurant where we had drinks the night before. The service was just as bad there, the girl who seated us took our drink order and disappeared, a waiter came by a few minutes late to take a drink order and after we told him we thought we had already ordered he too disappeared. Another 5 mins passed before he came back and we again tried to order drinks again the waiter came back with a report that there was an issue with the wine and off he went again. Next time he came back he said there was an issue with beer I had ordered, funny enough the same issue they had had with the same beer 24 hrs earlier. It took 20 mins before we final got our drinks. The food was ok nothing special again the same problem, young staff with no supervision.

Fortunately the staff in the main bar who were much older and infinitely capable.

The last straw was when on checkout I was told that the hotel room had already been charged to my credit card.

Sometimes spending more money doesn't get you anything any better, what a very large disappointment.

Now off to Redcar in England

Room Tip: the best part of the hotel was the pool

A wonderful welcome by the concierge team! But then as you enter you feel you need a torch to get around! Everything is dark or black, panelling, furniture, walls, bedrooms etc. we found it difficult to read in our bedroom and it was high summer and sunshine outside. The service was poor to middling in all areas, including coming back from a long day in Glasgow to find all our towels had been taken and not replaced! No apologies given. No teas replaced on tea tray! Difficulty getting drinks at the Boathouse before dinner. Hotel grill, dark and gloomy and milk etc not put out on breakfast table. It goes on and on, and we paid almost £400 per night! Had a b&b in Stirling the week before at a fifth of the price and better service and more comfortable! This hotel is really not good enough for its star rating!

This is the place to be. The room was second to none - the most luxurious hotel we've stayed in. Staff, cleanliness, leisure facilities etc top notch. Food looked amazing but maybe over salted. Best pancakes ever for breakfast. Definitely stay here.
