What a bizarre place - beautiful setting, staff who couldn't do enough for you yet the rooms and most parts of the hotel are not just shabby and outdated but filthy and rundown. There is a also a whole new modern part of the complex tacked on the side which has the leisure centre and sports bar in it. I imagine this is what budget family holiday-centre type facilities are like and was not at all what I was expecting in a luxury hotel when paying GBP240 per night.
The staff were friendly and eager to help and when we complained about our room (stained walls, rubbish from other guests under the bed, stinking of smoke even in the bathroom although non-smoking, light fitting from single light hanging out of the ceiling, small bed and seriously shabby furniture - you didn't dare sit down) they took swift and decisive action which went some way to remedying matters. This after our room was not ready for check in when we arrived at 6.30pm!
The hotel is undergoing a lot of renovation and although not especially intrusive meant the business centre was not open for example and no facilites have been made available for internet use if you have not brought your own laptop. However the parts which have been done (cocktail lounge and smart restaurant )were very nice indeed.
It might be very nice once the work is done in a few years time but for now go elsewhere, we're talking not basic its much worse and value for money is below zero. Stay at beautiful Hotel du Vin in Glasgow and travel out of the city to see the Loch.

Really expected this to be a super-luxurious end to our holiday and we stayed for two nights. Received a great deal which included dinner on one night and a free 'champagne cruise' on Loch Lomond.

Arrival - impressive - lovely grounds, greeted by valet who assisted with luggage then parked the car for us, receptionist was friendly and luggage was delivered to our room within minutes.

We booked two rooms and one room was upgraded to a suite - which was wonderful as we had a marvellous view of the Loch and a separate sitting room for our 2 young children to sleep in. The room was showing a few signs of 'wear' - i.e. the odd stain on the carpet and marks on the wallpaper etc - but overall it was spacious, clean and had a lovely bathroom. Well equipped with minibar, 2 tv's, hairdryer, trouser press, tea and coffee facilities, internet access, iron and board etc.

We were disappointed only by two things - (1) the creche (which looked great) was not open at all during our stay and this had not been mentioned to us by central reservations, (2) the Georgian Room and Drawing room were closed for renovations and this had also not been mentioned to us.

The cruise on the Celtic Warrier - the hotel's private boat - was wondeful. The two guys who ran the trip were young, keen, very informative and very friendly. The 'champagne' cruise only consists of one complimentary glass - any further drinks are payable - but it was a lovely 90 minute trip on the loch and is well worth doing. (Normal price £32.50 pp)

The leisure facilities were great - lovely pool with baby pool, kids pool and slide, and adults section. The gym was big and well equipped and there were two squash courts and a small health and beauty salon (definitely prebook any treatments as I struggled to get an available appt).

Overall - a great hotel in a really beautiful location - the staff were good, just check facilities are definitely open when booking or you may be disappointed!

We were on a brief trip to Scotland and this was our first and best night. The hotel was great, gym and pool facilities could not be better(great view from the treadmill) Staff welcoming and friendly. We ate in the Mariners restaraunt which was a 5 min walk away, again staff great and food delightful. Would definately recommend staying here.

I spent the weekend at the above hotel for a friends 30th birthday.
On arrival we put our bags in our room and went to the bar for a snack as the other rooms were closed for refurbishment.

We were given a menu , to my horror the price of a sandwich was £6-7and drinks were just as bad.

We decided to hold out till evening dinner. The only restaurant open was Smollets.
Again the prices were ridiculous and the choice very limited.

Do not make the mistake of having a course off the set menu and one off the main menu like we did.
my husband had some grilled peppers and couscous as a main course off the set menu and a starter off the main menu.
we were charge £19.50 for the grilled veg main course ( off the set menu).

A vegetable main course of the normal menu was around £15. So you can imagine our disgust.

The next day we went out for the day to arrive back at our room at 4pm in the afternoon to find our room still not cleaned.

In no way would I class this hotel as 5 star. I
The only thing 5 star are the prices.
I would never return there or recommended to anyone unless you have money to burn.

Stayed here for just 1 night on a late booking. The hotel is in a great location and the lodges in the grounds look like they are a great idea. The welcome was very pleasant and the room was at the back overlooking a grassed area. Nothing too special, but clean and comfortable.

Smolletts restaurant was almost fully booked, so didn't get to eat there, but the breakfast is served in there, and this was very good and hearty, buffet-style fare.

It's a 5 star location - maybe not quite 5 star facilities, but good nonetheless. If you can get a good rate, give it a try. If you are on a budget, don't forget that food and drinks are expensive.

Just returned home after a 3 night break at Cameron House, where we’d managed to book a loch-view room at a really good rate, as a special treat for my birthday. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean as was the bathroom, which was well stocked with nice toiletries, however, the best bit was the superb view of the loch from the bedroom window!

There are 3 restaurants. The Georgian Room restaurant wasn’t open during our stay as it’s currently being refurbished (we were advised about this when we booked). Smollets, where we had breakfast, have a good and varied choice on offer, i.e. cooked or continental breakfast, cereals, fruit, etc – this will set you up for the day! The Marina Restaurant & Bar (approx 3/4 minutes walk from the hotel) is well worth a visit. Had a gorgeous meal here on our last night - the manager and his young team make this a very pleasant and welcoming place to have a meal or just a leisurely drink.

We’ve had a great break and will definitely go back again however it’s worth remembering that this is a ‘5 star’ rated hotel and obviously with this comes ‘5 star’ prices, so whatever good deal you may get on the room rate the price you will pay in the hotel for food, drinks etc will still be ‘5 star’, i.e. expensive! However, don’t let this put you off as you don’t have to eat or drink in the hotel – there are lots of pubs and restaurants fairly close by – try the Princess Rose Chinese Restaurant in Balloch, which is an easy 5 minute drive from the hotel – courteous staff, good service and lovely food at a reasonable price.

A weekend at Fawlty Towers. We checked in, went for a walk and returned to find someone else had been booked into our room (wtih our possessions still there). Hotel staff removed some (but not all of our luggage) put it back, took it out again etc etc. Eventually sorted, but I was annoyed that my belongings had been handled by all and sundry. On departure we sifted through four bills before picking one that looked like it might be ours although our name wasn't on any of them. We eventually paid and received a receipt with someone elses name on it.
Dinner was well presented but very slow and mean. Averaged 1.25 to 1.5 hrs between clearing one course and serving the next. The entire meal wouldn't have fed a toddler - anything sliced was so thin it must have been shaved with razor blade. Dessert should have been served with ice cream but they had 'run out' by the time it came. We left the table £80 lighter and absolutely starving!
Our room was comfortable but a bit shabby. Old burn or scorch marks on chairs and bedding and stained wallpaper.
