We briefly returned to Pietrantica again this June, making it our third stay in Decontra in the last 18 months - hopefully this provides some indication to just how special stopping here can be.
Deconta is a very small village in the Majella National Park, very near to Caraminico Terme (about 10 minutes drive away). As you drive up to Pietrantica, you immediately start to feel immersed in the beauty of the Majella National Park. Your eyes are drawn upwards towards the mountains of Monte Rapina and Pesco Falcone which lie just above.
Marisa was there to meet us - she is so friendly and welcoming, that within minutes you quickly start to unwind and relax and start to appreciate the simplicity and beauty of the setting.
We only stopped for three nights, but we were blessed with good weather and managed to walk for two full days - Monte Amaro from La Maielletta and Monte Marrone & Le Muccia from Roccacarramanico. Both walks are now familiar to us, but very rewarding walks near to Decontra.
We chose to eat at Pietrantica every night to enjoy Marisa’s home cooked food and to mix with the other guests and exchange stories. Marisa uses fresh locally sourced produce and delivers simple meals that are delicious, all washed down with her local red wine.
We so wished we could have stayed longer as our time slipped by far too quickly, but we left with a warmth in our hearts and a continued desire to return when we are next in the area.
