Agriturismo Pietrantica
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 23 June 2013

We briefly returned to Pietrantica again this June, making it our third stay in Decontra in the last 18 months - hopefully this provides some indication to just how special stopping here can be.

Deconta is a very small village in the Majella National Park, very near to Caraminico Terme (about 10 minutes drive away). As you drive up to Pietrantica, you immediately start to feel immersed in the beauty of the Majella National Park. Your eyes are drawn upwards towards the mountains of Monte Rapina and Pesco Falcone which lie just above.

Marisa was there to meet us - she is so friendly and welcoming, that within minutes you quickly start to unwind and relax and start to appreciate the simplicity and beauty of the setting.

We only stopped for three nights, but we were blessed with good weather and managed to walk for two full days - Monte Amaro from La Maielletta and Monte Marrone & Le Muccia from Roccacarramanico. Both walks are now familiar to us, but very rewarding walks near to Decontra.

We chose to eat at Pietrantica every night to enjoy Marisa’s home cooked food and to mix with the other guests and exchange stories. Marisa uses fresh locally sourced produce and delivers simple meals that are delicious, all washed down with her local red wine.

We so wished we could have stayed longer as our time slipped by far too quickly, but we left with a warmth in our hearts and a continued desire to return when we are next in the area.

We stayed 2 nights in this B&B; it is an old farming house, nicely restored. We were warmly received by Marisa, a women of that region, speaking very well english. She could tell us a lot of the region, possibilities for walks, and other touristic information. Our room was very nice, clean and spacious.
You can have your dinner at this B&B, and it is good. Mirisa is cooking herself, using products of the region. You will have the evening meal together with other guest (if there are) in a nice common room.
This agriturismo is located in a very small and authentic village in an unspoiled landscape.
Marvellous!

We stayed 4 nights in the agroturismo Pietrantica in Decontra (Ceramanico therme) and did some hiking in the Majella National Park. We enjoyed our stay very much and Camillo and Marissa did everything to make it just great. The rooms were clean and spaceous, the food prepared fresh with local products from their own farm and during dinner we shared the table with the other italian guest, which gave us a warm feeling as on italian family gathering.

Since the place is about 10 min drive away from the main village Ceramanico therma, you can enjoy a peaceful place with a great view into the Morrotto and Majella Mountains.

We were on a motor bike tour and only spent one night here. A big mistake. The food was amazing, we enjoyed meeting the other guests over dinner and I want to come back with my walking boots and take advantage of the amazing walking. They have made what appears a bit of a ramshakle group of buildings into an amazing place. The thick farm walls kept the rooms cool, and a beer in the garden was very welcome after arriving in leathers. Marisa makes everything herself, from growig the Spelt she used for the pasta, and bartering with her neighbours for milk, and grapes from which they make there own wine. This was the highlight of our holiday, and we went to Lucca, Sorrento, Venice....so pretty amazing!
And she did all our washing too! Wow

I recently stayed for one week at Pietrantica in October. Being a non-peak time this was perfect for enjoying the beauty and variety of walks in the area. Decontra is a small village and that is its charm. Marisa and Camillo understand the appeal of the small village and its pastoral tradition and enjoy with their guests the joys of natural home grown food and wine and traditional cooking. For this type of holiday it is a wonderful place to stay and nothing was a problem for Marisa or Camillo who were keen to help. Michael

We stayed at Pietrantica last September and enjoyed the whole experience so much, we decided to return in June for 8 nights.

Arriving at Decontra late afternoon, we were met by Marisa and treated to one of her a warm and friendly welcomes, you could easily think that you were part of the family. Marisa has a real talent as a host and is able to make you feel relaxed and very much at home during your stay. Marisa is able to speak several languages, including Italian, English, French and a little Dutch.

We came here to walk and experience the National Park and were pleased to get out walking in the mountains on 6 of the 7 days; covering Monte Amaro via Tre Portoni, the Orfento Gorge, the Fara San Martino Gorge & Val Serviera, Monte Porrara, Monte Marrone and Corno Grande (in the Gran Sasso Park). The walking here is tremendous with real variety and we were only really limited by our own fitness. If we could have walked more, then we would have.

In the evenings you can dine with the other guests and be treated to some of Marisa’s home cooked food - made with fresh produce straight from their organic garden. This is simple great tasting food that walks were made for.

Marisa & Camillo work extremely hard to make your stay one to remember. Stopping at Pietrantica is more of a complete experience compared to staying at an anonymous hotel; it is a place where you can feel at home, really unwind in peaceful surroundings and get closer to the Majella. It is somewhere special.

Our time passed all too quickly, but we leave with lots of great memories and very much hope to return soon.

We stayed in Decontra with our 3 children who loved the freedom of the countryside. Marisa took care of everything and we felt like part of the family. Everyone eats together around a big table and enjoys the daily menu. The price might seem high for the dinner and simple rooms, but you can go hiking or climbing with the owner in one of the local cliffs - which was included.
We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this place for families
