Campsite Le Solitaire du Lac d'Annecy
Reviewed 23 August 2014

We stayed 1st week after high season, the campsite was full but still seemed relatively peaceful and each pitch had plenty of space so you could keep yourselves to yourselves if you wished. We were running late on day of arrival, and the team accommodated us well. The showers were warm and plenty of them, these along with the toilets were cleaned very regularly. The on site shop/ hatch is small but has ice cream, drinks, bread and croissants and there is a carrefour less than 5 mins drive away.
Location wise it is great- 1 minute walk through a field/ park and your at the lake, 5 mins walk to a "beach", 9 km to Annecy centre. There is a paved bike track all the way from the campsite to Annecy which is relatively flat, although not lit at night so you will need lights.
Overal great place to stay would definitely go back.

This is a wonderful campsite on the shores of Lake Annecy.

The campsite itself is fairly small, and attractively laid out, with only one sanitary block. The showers were a little luke warm, and the water pressure could have been better, but it was adequate. The toilets and showers were unisex, so I was extremely surprised to find two urinals in the sanitary block which were in public view of everyone, men, women and children, situated next to the showers and wash basins.

In the sanitary block you also have washing machines (cost 5 Euros) and tumble driers (cost 3 Euros), which did a fantastic job of cleaning and drying our clothes.

The campsite is in a very attractive location, situated right next to the lake, and set back from the busy road, so you don't hear any traffic noise. Driving around Lake Annecy, we felt this site had the best location of all the sites we saw, situated as it is mid way up the lake.

The plots are a decent size. It's a quiet site, with no organised entertainment or activities. The showers switch off at 10pm, and by 10.30pm the site was site was very quiet, which I loved.

Between the pitches and the lake shore, there is a field with some swings, ping pong tablet, basket ball net, and place to play badminton. It provides a great space for the children to run around and play on. We felt it was very safe to let our three children (aged 6, 8 and 10) to run around the site.

The campsite has direct access to the lake, which is beautiful for swimming in. But instead of using the campsite beach - which is shaded by trees, there is a path that takes you to another nicer beach three minutes away, which provides the most stunning views across the lake, and has a little field to relax on.

On the site itself they sell baguettes and croissants, ice creams and cold drinks, but that is all. For other shopping items there is a Lidl and Carrefour supermarket a few minutes drive from the site.

The site has a pizza van, which provides the most fantastic pizzas. We overheard one Italian family saying they were some of the best pizzas they'd ever tasted, which is high praise indeed!

The area around the campsite is stunningly beautiful, although unfortunately the week we were there we had a lot of rain (it was one of the worst July's on record). One of the disadvantages of visiting this site in high season is the traffic around the lake and through Annecy can be a nightmare. On one particularly bad day when it rained all day, we decided to take our children to a play factory the other side of Annecy. The journey should have taken around 25 minutes, but took over 2 hours to make because of the traffic.

If visiting this site, it is worth bringing bikes with you, because there is an excellent cycle path that goes right past the campsite, and is clearly one of the best ways of travelling down the west shore of the lake. You can hire bikes from the campsite itself. It's also only a short walk to the jetty at Saint Jorioz where you can pick up one of the boats that takes you around the lake.

This is a very special campsite, and despite the disappointing weather, we are very keen to return here in the future. If you're looking to stay in the Annecy area, and like a peaceful, attractive site, then look no further than Camping Solitaire Du Lac.

We stayed here for 7 nights in June 3014 and would echo eddi72’s views, The other sites are on the wrong side of a busy main road whereas La Solitude is down on the edge of the Lake about half a mile from the road. It doesn’t have a swimming pool but the lake is really clean and you can get to the beach in less than 5 minutes. The pitches are of a medium size but this is compensated for by the amazing views you get of the 1500 to2000 metre mountain tops on the other side of the lake. The sanitary facilities are clean if a bit confusing in their layout, The cycle path to Annecy is about 200m away and you can hire bikes on the site. We would definitely visit again if we were in the area. Make sure you go to the top of Semnoz and walk along the ridge.
St Jorioz is a very pleasant village with plenty of activities and some good restaurants (we went to Lac et Montagne which is a 5 minute walk away). It does excellent pasta, fish and pizza meals. The staff at the tourist information office are very helpful. There are 2 good supermarkets within 5 minutes of the site.
The sites name is an accurate reflection of its location.

We stayed in one of the mobile homes for 4 days in April. The site is lovely, the owner is very friendly and helpful. There is direct access to the lake and you can get onto the cycle route without going on any busy roads. We have booked to go back in the summer with our caravan.

I loved this campsite. It's not a fancy 'kids clubs & discos' site, so don't book if you like that sort of stuff. Every pitch is large and even with a good amount of shade and the site is medium-sized so you feel able to let your children have a degree of freedom without getting lost. It is very peaceful at night and relaxed during the day and has a nice, friendly vibe. We also liked the fact that it wasn't dominated by any one nationality and had a really good mix of all kinds of visitors (my son counted 13 different country car plates). We never had to queue for a shower, sink or loo and although the labelling on the facilities was a bit hit & miss (never quite sure if I was in the men's loos!), they were very clean and well-maintained ... and always had lots of hot water. There is a kiosk for essentials and the morning baguette/croissants, the option to buy Wifi access, a very small games tent and a pizza van (with tartiflette on Thursdays). There's a big field for sport/games and a small children's playground and it's very safe for children to bike along the paths. The games field opens directly onto Lake Annecy and the grassy 'beach' and watersports centre is a few minutes' walk. The cycle path around the lake is only a few minutes from the site and the site enjoys amazing views of the mountains around Annecy. It's about 8k from Annecy centre, a few minutes from a Carrefour and well-situated to explore lots of local attractions (of which there are many! There is tonnes to do around the area!). The booking process was a bit painful, as there were forms to be filled in and sent (ie not online), but it meant that booking in/paying etc was really straightforward when we arrived. It's also pretty good value, particularly if you have an ASCI card. We would definitely go back. Lovely town, beautiful area with masses of stuff to do and a really decent camp site.

Room Tip: I would choose a pitch towards the games field/lake, as it's slightly further away from the faci...

The camp site is in a wonderful location and has great access to the lake and cycle tracks. We rented the mobile home for 2 weeks, which was fully equip for basic living. Upon arrival and check-in you are required to carry out an inventory on the kitchen utensils and bedding. Be careful to mark down everything on this inventory and to look further at the accommodation than normally required. We got charged for a mark on the pillow case, which was covered by a papercover and did not think to check under the papercover on arrival. The inventory is carried out before a 50 euro desposit will be returned and the cleaner is looking for everything to be immaculate, including windows to be cleaned, all dishes to be spotless (even if unused) and the shower to be bleached white and water marks to be cleaned. We almost got charged for a less than bright white mattress protector, which we refused to pay and demanded to speak to the owners.
Be careful of the terminology of charging for soiled blankets, which is written on the inventory, they mean all bed linen, including the matress and pillow protectors and make sure you check under the papercovers. You may get charged for marks you have not made!!
On reflection, if they charge customers on the marked linen only, this would imply the linen only gets cleaned on these occasions!!!
