We stayed for two nights in late September. The hotel is charming and just a short walk from the old town center with its picturesque old buildings, including the town hall. Rose, the innkeeper, is worth all the accolades others have bestowed on her. Our room was exceedingly comfortable and parking is available next to the hotel.
Schiltach is a good base to use to explore other small towns in the Black Forest.
Sadly we were unable to schedule a stop in Schiltach that didn't coincide with the restaurant's quiet (closed) days -- and we strongly advise people to go to the hotel when the restaurant is open as it has splendid reviews and had an intriguing menu. But the breakfast was delicious, a bountiful German buffet with eggs cooked to order.
As i said, it is a very short, comfortable walk to the center of town. But be warned -- if Rose, who is a terrific hostess and clearly astoundingly fit, suggests you take a scenic walk there in order to see the heart of the town from up above, you had best be prepared for some extremely strenuous up-and-downhill hiking.
