“Wonderful hotel in delightful town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 October 2013

We stayed for two nights in late September. The hotel is charming and just a short walk from the old town center with its picturesque old buildings, including the town hall. Rose, the innkeeper, is worth all the accolades others have bestowed on her. Our room was exceedingly comfortable and parking is available next to the hotel.

Schiltach is a good base to use to explore other small towns in the Black Forest.

Sadly we were unable to schedule a stop in Schiltach that didn't coincide with the restaurant's quiet (closed) days -- and we strongly advise people to go to the hotel when the restaurant is open as it has splendid reviews and had an intriguing menu. But the breakfast was delicious, a bountiful German buffet with eggs cooked to order.

As i said, it is a very short, comfortable walk to the center of town. But be warned -- if Rose, who is a terrific hostess and clearly astoundingly fit, suggests you take a scenic walk there in order to see the heart of the town from up above, you had best be prepared for some extremely strenuous up-and-downhill hiking.

We stayed here for two nights and booked the package with dinners. For each dinner we had special personalized menus printed, outlining the courses to follow. Excellent dinners and wonderful breakfasts. We very much enjoyed the friendly care and attention of Mrs. Rose Wolber, who was our charming hostess. She exudes the hospitality and helpfulness that makes all the difference and you feel welcome and at home. Schiltach is a charming village, so many well-preserved half-timbered buildings and riverfront vistas and the museums are free.

My wife and I stayed two nights in September '13 and we were very pleased. The service, the room, the food and the reception by the owners (Herr und Frau Wolber) were first rate. Would love to visit them again if we were ever in the region again.

We stayed here during our 3 day exploration of the Black Forest. Rose, the owner, is quite possibly the nicest human being I've ever met. She truly goes out of her way to make sure her guests are taken care of. If you stay here, please be sure to dine in the restaurant. The decor is so authentic and the food delicious.

My wife and I booked to stay in the Weyssen Roessle as part of a 30th wedding anniversary trip around France and Germany, and had picked this hotel because of its location in the Black Forest, which was to be a major stopping off point on our journey. Having stayed here for two nights we can only say what a wonderful place it is. As others have reported here, the greeting from Rose that we got on arrival was so welcome after a long day's drive and made us feel right at home. As we don't speak German Rose went into rescue mode and looked after us throughout our stay so that whatever we needed was made available. Our room was lovely and the hotel itself is absolutely charming. We ate in the restaurant and greatly enjoyed our meals, whether dinner or breakfast. As a place in which to celebrate our big date it was perfect.!

*****This is purely a service review, as I was apparently not welcome to eat or sleep there.

Prior to our stay we attempted to book a room at the zum Weyssen Roessle. I was told that the Hotel was undergoing renovations at that they were closed. So, sure enough we walked past during our stay and they appeared very open. I then walked in the restaurant to try and book a table, I was turned away, they told me without a reservation there was no table. The tables were maybe 30% occupied at 1930 (which is late to start a meal in Germany).

All conversations were done in deutsch. And I do not look like riff-raff. Either they are trying to be uber exclusive or they are overwhelmed and should hire more staff and open its doors.

This hotel exceeded all expectations - and those expectations were high after reading earlier reviews! The most wonderful thing about this place is the very warm welcome we received and the great attention to customer care. Mrs Volber came to introduce herself personally when we arrived despite the fact she was in the kitchen producing the most wonderful meal. She knew our names, she offered to help us with our luggage. This was customer service at its best. The food - dinner and breakfast - was excellent;all cooked to order. The room was very nice - good size, extremely clean with lovely touches - fresh fruit etc. And on top of that Schiltach is the most fascinating place to visit.
