“DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU YOU WANT TO FEEL WELCOME”
Reviewed 12 October 2010

The hotel is located in a rural village outside of Verona and is difficult to locate. The "front desk" manager was rude and abrupt and we found her extremely unreasonable and unprofessional, in addition to being very hard to locate if needs arose. This was a strange set up-- there was no "reception" upon our arrival-- no front desk to find a staff person, no one around when we were trying to check in-- we had to tap on doors and locate someone who could let us in. It was ironic that the front desk manager arrived immediately when payment was to be collected, disappeared and only resurfaced when she wanted to talk about charges again.

The apartment itself was perfectly fine-- much smaller than it appears online, though. It was reasonably located (though on the third floor) and there is no porter or staff availability AT ALL. If you should need to ask a question, directions or need an item, GOOD LUCK finding anyone or getting Nicol to answer her phone.

There is a very minimal "breakfast" service (certainly not worth the 10 euro charge) that included a few stale, store-bought croissants, condiments and powdered coffee. Don't bother.

The most attractive thing about the village was its bell tower, which is charming and lovely to listen to-- except in the MIDDLE of the night, when it is located directly below your window, which is open for ventilation! Be forewarned-- it certainly was lovely during the day, but annoying whenever anyone tried to rest.

Remember that there is no phone service, no front desk (at least of which we were ever made aware), and the staff availability is very minimal at best. This is very much a self-catering apartment, with NO stocked items other than dishes and silverware. We prepared meals a few times and found no salt/pepper-- be sure to buy everything at the market that you may possibly need should you decide to utilize the small kitchenette.

In short, though the property was adequate and would be a fine place to stay for an overnight en route elsewhere, we would not recommend this hotel to anyone-- there are too many other choices that would far exceed this option.

We stayed in the Arche Scaligere appartment. It was beautiful. It had a washing machine and also a dishwasher so we didnt have to waste time pot washing. The appartment was cleaned daily so always lovely to come back to. Nicol the front desk manager was welcoming, friendly and very helpful. She came every day to make sure that we were all ok and asking if there was anything we needed. Lake Garda is only about 20mins away and Verona about 15mins. Very easy access to the motorway about 5 mins and Verona Airport 10mins. There are train stations at Verona and Peschiera so we were able to catch a train to Milan and also one to Venice. Sommacampagne is a quite little town with a few bars. The only tiny critism I would have of Villa Decima is that there is no outside space to sit and have a glass of wine in the evening but overall this Villa comes highly recommended.

We stayed at Villa Decima as part of our Veneto vacation. From here we easily explored many other towns (Verona, Garda Lake towns, and as far south as Modena). Great access to the autostrada or simply use the small regional roads to visit all the wonderful little towns in that area. We recommend Monzambano, for example (places like this that you don't hear about but are just wonderful!)

The apartment San Zeno was so comfortable and clean! This was a great choice. We were able to really rest and take a break from hotel living during our vacation. We even did a load of laundry to refresh our travel weary clothes!

We ate at Trattoria Tre Colli, which is walking distance from the Villa. The owners were so kind and gracious even though we couldn't communicate very well in Italian. They took us in and fed us some of the best food we had in Italy. We tried some regional dishes and wine. Excellent.

Nicol Zenato at the Villa was extremely helpful and treated us very well. We would love to go back again.

We stayed at the Villa Decima for part of our honeymoon and it was fantastic.

We booked the Anfiteatro apartment, which was larger than average. It was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed and more.

The bedroom was large and the bed was very comfy. The bathroom was large and imaculate. The apartment was spotless and cleaned every day.

We received a wonderful welcome from the staff, who were always helpful. They even baked us a cake for our arrival.

The mini bar was well stocked and extremely cheap.

The village was very, very quiet and the only thing we heard during our time in Sommacamgna was the church clock, which chimed on the hour. Even that didn't disturb our sleep.

To be honest, there isn't a massive amount to do in the village, but the bars and bistros all served good simple food and beer. There are a couple of lovely craft shops and the usual food, fruit / veg, pizza shops in the village. However, Verona is about 15 mins by car and the lakes are only a few miles away too.

It's not more than 10 mins from the airport, which is an added bonus for any tired tourists.

If you want somewhere where it's quiet, peaceful and beautiful surroundings, then Villa Decima is for you. Alternatively, use it as a convenient base to visit the area. All in all, i'd give the Villa Decima 10 out of 10!

The Villa Decima is a lovely place to stay. It has been thoughtfully converted into holiday accommodation. We stayed in the Arche Scaligere which was beautiful spotlessly clean and very homey. The rooms have all mod cons like dishwasher, washing machine, air conditioning and an incredible shower. They did not however have the advertised Internet connection, which was disappointing as I had hoped to catch up on a bit of work with the lap top. Very easy to get to Verona from the Villa the roads are great and it only took about 15 minutes to reach Verona centre. The most surprising thing was how cheap the mini bar was they don't rip you off at all. I think we had 3 beers and 2 bottles of water for 2 Euros. Definitely recommend it
