Every time we stay, we forgive the Petwood for the tired decor and the odd cobweb. The beds are pretty poor and the whole place could do with an injection of cash to bring it up to more modern standards....but it's still got charm, some of the rooms are large and pleasant enough, and there are the beautiful grounds and comfortable public lounges, which all add to an enjoyable stay. Busy and understaffed when there are functions on, be aware and avoid if possible, but a lovely independent old school charm nonetheless.

Thank you for your review and thank you for your repeat custom. I am so pleased to hear that you enjoy the setting of the hotel, its charm and beautiful gardens. I hope that on your next visit you will see the investment that is being made in the hotel, particularly in bedrooms and bathrooms.

The Petwood is a popular venue for functions, especially at weekends, and so our Reservations team notifies all guests on booking if functions may be taking place at any point during their stay. If this is the case, our Reservations team again contacts our leisure guests in the week prior to their arrival to inform them of these events.

Thank you again for your review and I hope to welcome you back to the Petwood soon.

Best wishes

We only stayed one night at this lovely hotel, but it will be a long term memory!! The welcome we received was first rate, the room was everything we could have asked for, with a shower to die for!! The garden and grounds were absolutely lovely, with seating tucked away to enjoy the peace and quiet. We will definitely return, but next time for a longer period of time.

Thank you so much for your review. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay and, having now discovered the Petwood, plan to return for a longer break.

Our 3 nights for the price of 2 offer runs Sunday to Thursday throughout the year (off-peak rates come into effect in October). However, May is a wonderful time to visit as the gardens are a vision of pink as the rhododendrons come into bloom.

Whenever you choose to visit, the team and I look forward to welcoming you again to The Petwood.

With thanks and best wishes

This was my 4th visit to this hotel with a group of friends to play golf at the excellent Woodhall Spa courses. This year the weather was superb and staying at the Petwood always enhances the enjoyment of the golf trip as the staff make you welcome. As always the room was very clean and spacious and the food is very good. We were well looked after in the restaurant by Karen.
The hotel is set in beautiful gardens and we were able to enjoy a few beers sat outside prior to dinner, admiring them.
For those interested in World War 2 memorabilia the hotel has a room dedicated to the Dam Busters raid in 1943.
Apart from golf one could recommend this hotel for a quiet weekend break.

Room Tip: Top floor overlooking car park

We visited The Petwood once again for the Woodhall Spa 1940s Festival. This time we stayed for 4 nights in the same room as last year. This overlooked the gardens and was very comfortable. It was a very warm weekend indeed and the bedroom was at times rather hot but we retired to the terrace below for a cool drink in the evening which was delightful. The service throughout the weekend was excellent although the Hotel was extremely busy at times. It was a little calmer on the Sunday and Monday nights and the relaxing atmosphere really came into its own. We ate four times from the Restaurant menu including a group meal of 13 people. I was very impressed with the standard of food with a good selection that pleased all our guests on the Saturday night. We felt like valued customers throughout and are looking forward to our next stay which we hope will be in the autumn. We are already booked in for the 1940s event next year! This is good location for exploring the area and if you don't dine in the Restaurant the bar meals and afternoon teas looked very tempting!

Room Tip: Some rooms overlook the gardens which are lovely.

My husband and I came to the 1940s weekend, as we have a keen interest in that era. Obviously a visit to the Petwood was compulsory . We visited about 4 times in 3 days. We had lunch the first day which was delicious . . Especially the chips !
We had tea on 2 other occasions and a visit to the Antiques fair and Craft fair. It was so relaxed there, we walked around the beautiful gardens, and also inside the hotel looking at all the pictures and artifacts from the Dam Busters time there.
We thoroughly enjoyed the calm and friendly atmosphere at the Petwood . . . Many thanks :)
