“A romantic getaway”
Reviewed 18 May 2014

We couldn't decide what to do for our 20th anniversary, so we left everything to the last minute. However there were a few things that we weren't looking for...not a hotel room where you feel like you sleeping in a box, must have privacy without feeling isolated! Must have...sea views, stunning location, clean and stylish bedroom. I can confirm that Paternoster Dunes delivered on all the above and so much more. Thank you to all concerned, we will be back!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Rose room, which was perfect

When a friend was planning a getaway for her special birthday she asked me for my suggestions...I gave her a list but in the end she decided on Paternoster because, friends of hers " own a guesthouse overlooking the sea..."
I had only been to the fishing village on the Cape's West Coast once before but it left such a bad impression then,I had no desire to return...
Driving into Paternoster on a gloriously sunny Day ,with the stench of fish hitting my nose ,A complete mish mash of rustic houses & very little else,I wasn't feeling very optimistic but the minute I walked through the doors of Paternoster Dunes Guesthouse my opinion changed to pure joy...
The front door leads to a haven of pure tranquility & bliss...
The enclosed courtyard is around a small but adequate pool & sun loungers ...perfect for chilling out with a good book or bottle of wine...
All the rooms are beautiful & luxurious -individually but exquisitely decorated.
We were a party of seven so took up 2 double rooms ( Cinnamon & Aqua) & one ( huge ) Suite (Red ) which is perfect for a family.
The upstairs lounge, dining ,bar & deck area is magnificent!
The use of furnishings & space, to make the best of the view ,is simply amazing!
All rooms, except for Cinnamon have their own private deck & lead right onto the beach a few steps away...
The rooms are fully equipped with every necessity and the beds are so comfortable & cosy (they even thought of electric blankets for the winter) you may never want to leave the comfort of your room!
Gavin & Deon are wonderful hosts!
They arranged a most delicious 3 course meal for my girlfriends birthday & with a fireplace roaring in the background, copious amounts of wine, great music & entertaining conversation ,the evening was most memorable!!
Breakfast is also a very special affair & the offerings(even for a picky non meat & egg eating gal like me) was most plentiful!
If you want a romantic break or time out to reconnect with great friends ...this is THE place to stay!!!I cannot wait to return...
Btw : make sure you go to " On the Rocks" for the best takeaway fish & slap chips ever!!!
Bon Voyage....

Room Tip: All rooms are beautiful but I would personally suggest Rose,Aqua or Vanilla as these are all on the...

Paternoster Dunes is well located and the service is excellent - Gavin and the team did an exceptionally good job! The Red Room is well appointed, clean, and has good access from the street. Recommend the deck for sundowners and the view of the beach during sunset. Gavin's restaurant bookings were also very good, with Noisy Oyster taking the cake in our view.

We stayed in the separate cottage overlooking the sea. The cottage was 5 star and beautifully presented. It was pure indulgence. The service was outstanding. Gavin made everything happen for our engagement.

Room Tip: Stay in the cottage. Privacy and view are amazing.

Dear Graham
Thank you for your review and congratulations on the engagement. We had fun planning the secret details even though you 'let the cat out the bag' before you arrived. None the less we are glad you both had a memorable evening with us and hope to see you on your honeymoon or anniversary.
Regards,
Gavin

Our stay here came at the end of our holiday via Johannesberg, Grahamstown, Capetown and the Cederberg Mountains. It was everything we could have wished for. Even the dinner bookings made for us in advance were what we would have chosen, though the meal on the last night disappointed. (Not Gavin's fault).

Easy trip back to Capetown on the day of our flight home to the U.K.but warning for overseas travellers, there are no signs to the airport coming in from the west coast. We nearly got lost.

Room Tip: I would ask for ground floor room which fronts the beach.

I proposed on the beach in front of this guest house. The team assisted me with setting everything up. We stayed in the Vanilla suite which literally touches the ocean's edge. Our evening dinner reservation was already in place (and we had an amazing dish at The Noisy Oyster)...
Everything was easy and relaxing and exactly what I had envisioned for our special day. Special mention to the owner who gave it a personal touch, the staff for being really professional and helpful, and the cooking staff, the breakfast was delicious. We will be returned annually, as with the sprawling white dunes, ocean breeze, and inner decor beauty, the Paternoster Dunes Boutique Guest House is a firm fave.

Room Tip: Try to get one of the sea facing suites (there are 3). We had Vanilla, in my mind the best of the 3.

HI Brad. Well we are romantics at heart and are happy that we could make it a special stay for you both. We were all excited about you popping the question ... and well who could resist all your planning and attention to the moment - Her answer was a definite YES! I am also glad the rest of your stay was up to your expectations and we look forward to seeing you again! Warm regards, Gavin.

Walks on the beach in the evening and early morning just so peaceful and heavenly. I hope I get to stay here many many more times. Definitely the best Guest House we have stayed in.
