“Right on the beach!”
Reviewed 25 September 2013

Great view with all the amenities. Right on the beach. Beautiful sunrise. Gas fireplace and underfloor heating. Just right for a spring evening. Would go here again kids loved it. Right of the beach with sand and sea shells. Needs a little TLC - but not much.

We stayed in the Buuren A unit. The units are well equipped (flat-screen TV, leather couch, dishwasher, safe etc), The decor has a luxurious feel to it and everything was very clean and tidy. We had our own porch with great views over the bay (even though we had units in front of us they are relatively low so do not block your view). The units are also located in a quiet cul-de-sac.The beach is just 2 minutes walk away.

However this experience was spoiled by poor service. We checked in for 6 nights from Saturday to Friday. On the Monday morning our shower door detached from its railings. We informed the office and they said the maintenance team is very busy, so unlikely they can help us on Monday - most likely on Tuesday. In the meantime we had to deal with a heavy shower door, having to "balance" it in the opening to prevent wetting the whole bathroom. This was a big safety risk. Tuesday came and went as well as Wednesday. Thursday morning I called again. The lady was very surprised to hear the door was not fixed and said she would follow up and call me back immediately. This never happened - we left on the Friday with the door still not fixed and no call from the office.

One or 2 other smaller service related issues bothered us. The directions we received to the offices was for the "during hours" office. The "after hours" office was located elsewhere which we struggled to find. They were aware that we would check in on a Saturday.

During check-in at the office, certain restaurants were recommended - however one of the restaurants (Blikkies Pizzeria) were actually closed for the whole winter (we discovered this when pitching up at the restaurant with pizza on our minds.

We also struggled with insufficient toilet paper - we asked the service ladies for more and they gave us one roll.

These are all "service" related issues. Mostly "small things", but has a lasting impression on a customer. Without these service issues we would have no doubts to strongly recommend La Balaeine, but we cannot do this based on our experience.

Really enjoyed our stay at the property this weekend - self-catering villas and we had a spacious two-bedroomed, two bathroomed villa with 180 degree views of the calm bay. It's well-equipped, the braai area would make any South African man go weak at the knees (SA'ns love to BBQ or braai!) and the easy access to the beach ... I could go on and on! Really calm and just what we needed to recharge our batteries. 1h30 min outside CPT and felt like another world. Took a walk across the beach to have a look at the sister property called Strandloper Ocean Boutique Hotel - this is beyond amazing - decor is fantastic and if you're not in self-catering, it's a brilliant option. Had the most delicious breakfast served by Tapiwa and Monica- two friendly souls who help to settle you into the village pace.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea-facing villa, of course. Worth paying a tad extra for.

This is one of the places I can call my home away from home. It is one of the best self catering houses that we have ever stayed in. The service was friendly and made us feel right at home. The house was neat very modern and user friendly. I have recommended all of our friends to take a break and come here to.

What a view! From your wrap around deck you can see 180 degrees of sea and beach. Sat up on an outcrop of rocks this bountiful house looks across the beach with the small fishing boats pulled on to the golden sand and the bustle of fisherman bringing back catches of crayfish you could spend the day with a coffee just watching life, but you would miss so much of the atmosphere . So walk down to the beach through the rocks and haggle for some fresh crayfish and tack back to your braai or walk along to the restaurants along the shoreline. If you like stress, then this is not for you.

Paternoster still is my peace on earth haven, I have stayed in a number of self-catering establishments and purely by accident I found the wonderful house which are part of the La Baleine which in turn is part of the Strandloper group.
I had to cancel my initial booking and Nerissa and Ivan were kind enough to hold it for a further date.
The house had everything that opened and closed, from an extremely comfortable bathroom to a well-appointed kitchen with all the gadgets that we needed, the “steal” was the beautiful appointed lounge/dining room with the most panoramic view over the “bay” and a great walking trail in front of the house and winding along for a few 100 meters, it rained slightly, but, it was all just perfect.
Dinner was of course at the Noisy Oyster with the wonderful Debbie unobtrusively ever present, with supurb choices on the ever-changing menu, the grappa and espresso is always on hand – Debbie always seem to be able to squeeze me in at the last moment, and with the bill comes the yummy sweets (sweety sweets in wrappers), so consistent – don’t ever think of closing down, Paternoster will probably be forced into doing same.
The Voorstrandt restaurant is always my second night dinner, consistently good and like the Noisy Oyster always full – the calamari is a good choice for me, and, the owner kindly gave me his receipt for the greatl chilli sauce that they use.
Back soon!

This place was the closest to Heaven i've ever seen, it was just absolutely gorgeous! The view took my breath away, as we had dolphins who came to visit us,just outside our door playing in the water. The house or villa we stayed in was clean ,modern and safe,!!! I would recomend this 'little bit of heaven' to anyone and cant wait to return...............
