We attended a wedding here in October 2011 and stayed in one of the ground floor rooms for 3 nights. Chateau de Lantic has the potential to be an outstanding place to stay and does some things very well but we were let down by unwelcoming hosts (it felt like we were an imposition on them), a poorly maintained room and substandard service.

In terms of the positives, the setting is lovely with a good size pool and garden. The breakfast is very tasty. The upstairs rooms appear better maintained than the ground floor rooms and have beautiful carpets and furniture. Parking is easy. With reference to the wedding, the setting was magical and the food was sensational and there were some great additional touches including the fantastic presentation of the food.

An overwhelming negative however, was that the hosts gave us the feeling that we were not welcome and a big imposition on them. This has never happened to us before and contrasted sharply to our experience the 2 previous nights in a lovely 17th century manor in Ligre, Loire Valley (Au prince grenouille- highly recommended). The room was poorly maintained particularly with regards to the standard expected for the price. When we arrived, the bath had tepid water and cleaning fluid in it. The bathroom tap was falling off its base and difficult to use as a result. One lightbulb was not functionning over the bathroom mirror. It was very poor value for money although I note the upstairs rooms were much nicer. The service was poor. For a place that does weddings, there was no iron available on day of request. One was found the following day but there was no ironing board. With reference to the wedding, they refused to follow through on any of the bride's simple requests. For example, they did not put the tables in the order requested. They did not allow the transfer of a platter of oysters that were unfinished in the pre-dinner drinks section to the bridal table for their enjoyment (and instead they were wasted!) In the latter part of the night, guests had to fill their glasses up in the bathroom for water as reportedly the Evian had run out but they refused to supply tap water on the tables.

So in summary, while it is a great property and we had a fabulous time at the wedding, we were let down by the poor service and poorly maintained room.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms are much nicer.

Having planned our (my husband and i and our son and his wife) trip for months beforehand, I was REALLY excited by this hotel. It was to be our final night in Europe. The reviews weren't always great but the pix looked fabulous! We were to arrive on Tuesday. Sunday nite, I decided to write them to see if the pool would still be open. I received an email back asking when I would be coming and that if it was for the Tuesday, they were completely booked. I had booked on-line, on their site back in May. After a few emails, they found our reservation but they had mistakenly booked us for October (even though our reservation email said Sept.) They offered to help us find a place, which was very nice but the place they found for us was too expensive so we ended up staying at the Quality Suites Bordeaux Airport. It was very disappointing because we were so looking forward to staying there. It also added stress because I had to spend lots of time on-line to find something else. A lot of places were full or really expensive. I am SO thankful that I happened to email them before arriving. It would have been HORRIBLE if we had arrived there and they didn't have any room. At least I was able to have 1 day to shop on-line for something else. If you book here, my advice would be to EMAIL with them a couple of days ahead of your arrival and check if they have your reservation.

Chateeau de Lantic is near Bordeaux, it is a beautiful, ancient building with a wonderful garden around and a nice swimming pool.

Large rooms, nice breakfast, private parking and not too expensive but...let's start with the problems!

At our arrival in the toilet we found our w. c. without the tablet, we complained and first they asked "is it a problem?" then they explained it had been broken in the same morning and being bank holyday it was not possible to replace it immediately; they did it the day later but it would have been much more appreciated if they prevented us while showing us the room, apologizing and maybe offering us a little discount for it.

Then always in the bathroom there were just 2 large and 2 medium towels for the 4 of us: we had to share the towels for the shower, and no way to have more because the morning after no one was at the reception.

In the breakfast room there was nobody of the hotel: every morning someone among the guests had to go to the reception looking for somoeone to refill drinks and food while usually there's always someone in the breakfast room to take care of the service and the guests.

The chateau is run by a couple who is not at all at the level you suppose to find in such a beautiful place, a real pity!

A real disappointment as the grounds and location are very nice and the Family Suite was a good size with two double bed rooms and a very good sized living room / kitchen. Unfortunately the room was is in a state of disrepair with the curtains falling off their rails, stains on the sofa and chairs, squashed insects everywhere, the wires hanging out of the wall socket for the kettle and crockery was dirty. Open cupboards under the bathroom sink revealed botched DIY jobs. When we arrived late afternoon we found the bin under the sink was still full of the rubbish from the previous occupants. Beds and sheets were clean but first impressions count so we felt uncomfortable in the rooms
Although the owners were pleasant, breakfast felt rather Fawlty Towers as the place was completely under staffed, table cloths un-ironed, none of the tables were cleaned up after the guests until the end of the breakfast session, jugs of milk and fruit juices empty and the owners had to be tracked down to give any service.

A positive was the free internet access

Overall it felt like the family owners have given up on the place. A real shame as the surroundings are nice, some proper refurbishment and employing and handful more staff for waiting on the guests at breakfast and doing he cleaning rounds would improve the place no end and give value for the relatively high room cost

We arrived on bicycles which was obviously not to their taste. The bedrooms were comfortable but the tea cups were not removed the next day after use. There was no coffee at breakfast as they had run out, instead we were told we could have instant decaffeinated coffee.
We found a used sanitary towel in the laundry basket in the bedroom.
It was hardly service with a smile.

Dear sir

Thank you for your advice. nevertheless We would like to clarify some point and may be misunderstanding
We do not have any problem with bicycle We have many clients coming with bicycles and we would like to have more visits of Bicyclists We sponsor the Green road along the river Garonne.
and we have bicycles at home.We do apologize for poor cleaning services the day you visited us . We did not check the job of a new maid.
For breakfast there are two ways to get coffee, Italian like machine and French coffee in jars
It could happen to be out of French coffee for 5 minutes , the other machine is working quite well .The answer you apparently got was not the right one we do apologize and seems to be an immediate answer to get coffee as soon as possible. I hope you enjoyed our homemade jams.with our best regards

Pleasantly situated within easy walking distance of the village of Martillac, the chateau offers plenty of character, charming owners and nicely furnished rooms. No restaurant services are available at the chateau other than the good buffet style breakfast served in the lovely dining room. Fortunately, the nearby village provides a good choice of restaurants, "Le Pistou" being the nearest (see separate report).
The chateau entrance and grounds were in need of some attention when we stayed in early April..but apart from that we would recommend the Chateau de Lantic for a pleasant stay in rolling Bordeaux wine country.

By chance looking for an hotel which would also accommodate our dog (which we subsequently didn't bring) we found this really delightful Chateau just 12km from Bordeaux.
The Chateau was purchased and lovingly restored some years ago with vision and great style. We were warmly welcomed and made feel at home immediately. The room was very pretty with a comfortable bed, lovely antique furniture and an excellent en suite bathroom. The attention to detail is remarkable. All rooms are individual and feel as if the owners really care and indeed having spoken with them I am convinced they do and want their guests to enjoy their stay. Breakfast was served in a lovely dining room in the courtyard and was one of the best we have ever had in France with lots of choice and quite sustantial.
The area is wonderful if you are interested in good food and of course wine you couldn't chose a better location. We highly recommend Chateau de Lantic for the discerning traveller who wants something personal not a soul less chain hotel.
10/10 Thank you Mureille for your hospitality we will be back again and next time hopefully for longer.
