For our first family Thermal Bath experience and toting a grandmother with us was excellent. The hotel supplies everything, from Bath Robes with little wooden name tags, to beach bags for the hotel towels you need at the pool. Childcare and entertainment every evening! Eventhough we were in the middle of Austria, everyone had excellent English for those of us who didn't speak German. It was an excellent experience and we will go back again.

We spent an extremely pleasant week at the Aldiana Salzkammergut during the May holidays.
Our main reasons for booking here were the good reviews, the nice offer on a Familienzimmer/family room which was actually two Doppelzimmer/double rooms, and the childcare.
The rooms were very spacious, including a true king size bed, not something you find here in Europe so often. There was a lot of room to stow clothes etc instead of having to stuff in them into a limited shelving/closet unit.
Location was fine, a good base to go hiking, biking, exploring the many beautiful lakes in the region, etc. Salzburg is 90 minutes away with many interesting places to visit along the way.
There is a big pool complex attached to the hotel and hotel guests have free access. The different pools are lovely and a lot of fun. There's a baby pool, a kid/youth pool, a waterslide that's good for kids 6+ (or maybe a bit younger!), pools outside and inside, fun jets and bubbly sitting areas. The sauna area is quite extensive and people seemed to like it a lot, though I was never in that area.
There is an extensive offering of sport and entertainment activities, but if you don't want to do that, there's no pressure to get out and do club things.
The Kids Club offers wonderful childcare for 2-6 year olds at every time of the year from 9:00 a.m. - 8 p.m. except on Wednesdays. For older kids, there are only scheduled activities during the main holidays in German-speaking countries.
We have a 5 year old who doesn't sit for long at the table at meals, while we like to take our time. So he could come eat with us for 20 minutes, then go off to play in the Kids Club, and we could return to our coffee. It was the other way around at dinner. He would eat with the kids at 6 p.m., we would go to dinner at 7 p.m., and eat in peace for an hour. Then, at 8 p.m., we would pick him up and he could have a little dessert with us. Optimal combination of lively and calm family time at the table.
Speaking of the food - the food!!! Incredible! The dinners were done buffet style, which lowered my expectations somewhat, but shouldn't have. There were always 3 main courses to choose from that all tasted wonderful. And of course there were lots of sides, vegetarian options, pasta dishes, kids' dishes, often a Chinese sort of option, all kinds of salad, vegetables, fruits, and cheeses, etc. Dessert was fantastic with a great selection and some marvelous ice cream. My husband and I gained weight during this vacation for sure, but we agreed that it was worth it. It would have been a shame not to try all those wonderful dishes!
Breakfast was likewise everything you would hope for.

All in all, highly recommended!!

For Americans and other English-speaking natives:
I think the employees speak enough English at Aldiana, but the hotel is totally geared toward German speakers.
If you are expecting an iron in the room, or at least that you can borrow one from housekeeping: bring your own! They looked at me like I was nuts when I asked them.

Incredible establishment with superb staff. A few days of skiing always leaves me with sore muscles and elevated stress levels, as you might guess whilst I enjoy skiing on well prepared slopes such as those in Bad Mitterndorf I am not a good skier. So when visibility is poor I am off the slopes in search of balm for the aforementioned muscles and mind.

The wellness centre at the Aldiana is everything that one would wish for, modern, fantastic facilities and highly trained staff, all with a sense of humour, but most importantly with that sense of touch which is essential to a really good massage.

Worth all the sore muscles etc. to justify spending time at the wellness centre.

Highly recommend, and go in the mornings, 20 percent early bird reduction.

Room Tip: N.A as we stayed at another hotel.

Pretty much everything one needs to feel pampered. Indoor and outdoor pools (connected via tunnel), several saunas, massage service, and other spa/health amenities (which I did not use). The buffet-style restaurant had a large selection of various dishes. There is a bar, as well as a theatre (though I have to say that the nightly entertainment was of very dubious taste).

The room was of a comfortable size, very clean, and with a balcony. One minor irritant was that the rooms were not equipped with irons/ironing board. When I asked at the reception, I was told those were not available and that I needed to use their dry cleaning service to have my shirts ironed.

I spent three days there with a group of approximately 20 people. Some didn't ski, but they found plenty of other things to do at the hotel.

We were visiting friends in Bad Mitterndorff and they suggested a visit to the local spa Grimming Therme. For such a tiny village, I could not believe how new and high tech the spa was. We enjoyed the indoor/outdoor natural hot springs water pool. Imagine being outside in a pool at the base of the gorgeous white alps. What an experience. There were a lot of kids around so it could get a bit loud. We paid extra for sauna passes, which is clothing optional but also does not allow kids, so that was a much more relaxing experience. Same indoor outdoor pool but without the splashing kids haha. BOth pools had beds in the water you could lay on while air pulsed all around you like a jacuzzi! After two weeks of traveling around Europe, we were good and ready for this experience. Anyone near Bad MItterndorff should check it out.

Room Tip: Try the sauna side of the spa if you want a quieter atmosphere. Its clothing optional, but you may...
