As a start we want to point out that our judgement is based on the 4-star rating of this hotel and the 156 Euro per per night/person and the benchmark with other hotels, some of them rated by us, where we stayed in the eastern alps region.
We booked the hotel directly after searching a hotel at the Gerlitzen Ski resort for our new year stay. The hotel was selected as being near to the lifts wich was party true, having to walk 100 meters uphill on a road and then another 400 meters with skis. The hotel has an amazing view over Villach and the mountains. Its recently renovated and the staff is friendly. Parking directly at the hotel is limited, no reserved parking area for hotel. The spa is nice and they have a pool. Very nice is the children playing room with lots of toys and a "nany". The hotel is recently renewed and the rooms are nice and clean. So far so good but considering the price there are in our view some "no-go's" wich in 4-star hotel are not acceptable :
-the impression from the dinner and breackfast is a missing of care and not 4-star standard (see the pictures of the breackfast table : no table cloth, the cold meat cut is presented in a box like in a butchery, also the cheese is presented without any care) See also the picture of the scrambled eggs bowl with various breaks. Very often you had to ask for refill of the buffet as it was not done automatically by the staff. The staff was friendly but missing professionality.
-we asked the repair of the toilet lid, it took 2 days (no change of the part was asked, but just fixing of some screws)
-the reception was closed after 19.00 hours, you had to call the bar
-no WLAN in our room as the device was to far away
-as we did not use the new years eve dinner, just 37 Euro in total for two adults and one child were deducted
-on departure as we wanted to use the room till 1600 hours, they wanted to add the full overnight cost less the dinner
-the ski area is about 10minutes walking distance with 100 meters of uphill road, with childs not really confortable
-the food quality was just acceptable but below 4 star level and not in line with the pictures on the website (we never saw any of the rapresented dishes !)
Keep in mind that the hotel is located on a hill so you have a 20 min drive before reaching the village of Treffen. The ski resort is family friendly but some of the lifts are old and not high class standard (many open lifts with no cover, some are slow or T-bar lifts). The skischool is very good and child friendly.
Overall I do not recomend the hotel considering that what I could get for the same money in other places.
