The receptionist constantly answered the phone while booking us in, which I consider rude. However, we did buy advance tickets for the Chateau de Versailles. Our mostly bare earth pitch was muddy as it had rained hard overnight and was under tall trees. It was in the same state 24hrs later after a sunny day. This meant all of equipment was mucky. The washing up facilities did not have draining boards. There were insufficient toilets & showers for the numbers on the site and they were also muddy. The natural swimming pool is a lovely idea but the steps and bottom of the pool were very slimy. There was a singer on the one evening but he was poor. We stayed there to visit Versailles as the local site was full and it was a fairly quick journey to the chateau even in rush hour(you need to buy tickets in advance to avoid 1 queue but you then have another queue to get into the chateau but not the gardens). We will attempt to find an alternative site with sun & grass next time.

Stayed here during a European road trip with my husband. Arrived at 11pm after being turned away from two other sites in France. English speaking manager was very helpful and accomodating. Site was beautiful , well defined pitches with electric hook-up set amongst some very tall trees however the ground was very hard and we damaged a few of our pegs when pitching the tent. Guests are allowed to take their cars to their pitches when arriving and leaving but are asked to park in the the car park at all other times. This was not adhered to by the majority, did not bother us but may bother some fammilies with young children. The facilities were clean and tidy although you have to keep pushing the tap for the shower which can become a bit of a pain. There was a small shop on site which sold some basic essentials and local produce (good wine selection) however i would recommend stocking up before hand. There is also a resturant on site which has a small but very tasty menu. The pool and play area looked inviting for children. During our stay there where a number of activities such as story telling around a campfire, late night swimming, cooking classes we just missed the weekly BBQ. We travelled into paris on our second night and after seeking advice from the helpful staff we opted for 10 minute drive to the station then 45 minute trainride to the centre of Paris. The last train back to Rambouillet was at around 11pm so be sure not to miss that. Overall this site was well kept, had good facilities and activities and would probably best suit families looking for a relaxing, fun stay in France.

traveltrough camping disappointment

2-weeks stay

Positive:
- English speaking employees
- ecological pool
- clean toilets with paper
- hot showers
- campingspots with lots of privacy
- lots of trees

Negative:
- travelthrough camping with daily new neighbours
- therefore no cosiness or empathy
- due to new arrivals and departures no relaxed atmosphere between 7-12 am and 4 - 12 pm
- lots of locks of toilets and showers broken and not repaired
- ground of stones and rocks
- due to high trees, no/less sunlight on campingspots

Room Tip: English speaking employees, high trees therefore less/no sunlight on campingspot

If like me, you are an -in-the-blood camper, but your partner is a 3-5* hotel type, then Huttopia will possibly work for you. The Canadiennes were a really good choice above the others as they have the best location in terms of being next to nature. All the facilities and design is really really good and the organisation is excellent. Location great. Staff - young and helpful, and jolly. I took a lot of food thinking i'd cook all the time, but the pizzas here are so damn good that you'll need less than half!
My one complaint? The housekeeping was not all in order (a bit of management required imho):-
- Cooker wasn't connected
- Washing up liquid / hand soap was so watered-down as to be useless
- Gas lamp was broken
All of that should've been noticed in the checkups.... anyway, it didn't detract from an excellent stay, and we will be back to a Huttopia!

Our group was 2 families with 3 children and 1 adult in a wheelchair, so we really tested various aspects of this campsite.

We had a 'Forest Pitch" for one family and a 'Canadienne' for the other. The Forest pitches are not as special as they are perhaps made out to be, really they simply back onto the forest, and are a bit larger in size. The regular pitches are similar to your usual French campsite, with pitches divided by hedges and a road in front.

The Canadienne was lovely for a family who doesn't have all the gear and it was a great base for the 7 of us, we spent much of the time there. Everything you need is provided, the gas powered fridge was especially handy. The tent withstood wind and rain at night and the beds were comfy. They are pricey though, if you are with 2 families in 2 Canadiennes you could rent a gite or cottage for the same cost.

Toilet/shower facilities have been designed along an eco-theme, with lots of wood panelling etc. The general camping ones have many more people using them than the Canadienne facilites. My husband found the disabled facilities disappointing. There was a disabled toilet stall, although there were no grab rails, just a larger area. We had to improvise for a shower seat for him as there was no fold-down seat. The Canadiennes all have a large step up onto the deck which was a challenge for him. There were no ramps available although it would be easy enough for them to make 1 Canadienne wheelchair accessible should they wish to.

The pool, playground, landscaping, BBQ areas etc are all great. Huttopia does provide good leisure activities and families with older children (6+) would find the activities great. The natural pool looks great, and is very cold to swim in but our kids loved it and were in there for ages with blue lips!

Rambouillet itself is a lovely town with nice things to do such as visiting the Chateau, the Bergerie Nationale (farm) and good shopping. Our friends did a day trip to Paris by car and this was easy. By train is also very straightforward.

Would consider using this campsite and their other sites again
