The central location on the village square was ideal. Easy access to the three markets during the week and the shops and cafe culture of the centre.
To the rear the French doors opened onto 2 lovely enclosed terraces, with choices of garden furniture and a BBQ available also. There were views to mountains and wonderful sunsets, with a variety of birdsong throughout the day - a peaceful oasis for meals, reading, relaxing and just being.
Inside there was plenty of space downstairs with a through room with kitchen, dining and living. Upstairs could sleep 5 in two rooms with two shower rooms with toilets.
The house made a wonderful base and had all we needed. We had an issue with the fridge which Julie, the managing agent, dealt with and resolved as quickly as was possible, keeping us informed at all times and provided alternative storage in the meantime. This certainly didn’t colour our enjoyment of the holiday and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and we’ll visit again.
We had a truly relaxing holiday. There is a wide variety of things to do both locally and further afield. Lots of beautiful walks, hikes, mountains to climb, river valleys and waterfalls to explore, castles, forts, weekly markets, picturesque villages on hillsides, on the coast, trips over the border to Spain and Andorra (if your car hire permits), meals out at the Chateau at Nyer and in Vernet to name but a few things. Our holiday finished with the celebration of the feast of St Jean - wow! Human Catalan towers, bands with different styles of music, fireworks and fire eaters all part of the activities in the square. The lit lamp was to be taken up the mighty Canigou mountain above the village, to be returned 24 hours later. In the house, you were right there and very much a part of it.
A house that certainly was our oasis and holiday paradise. Special thanks go to Julie and her husband for all their support. Julie was very helpful from the outset with information about how to get to Vernet and the equipment in the house. A great time!
Maison du Paradis was ideal for two couples with everything we needed to make an enjoyable week's holiday. After a few hiccups at the beginning (all sorted efficiently by Julie) the week passed too quickly. Vernet is a lovely little town and lots of interesting places to visit nearby.
We, three adults and one toddler, had a wonderful holiday in this excellent house. It was spotlessly clean, had very comfortable beds and a really well kitted out kitchen. Ideally located in town centre, so close to all amenities. Walking was fabulous on well marked routes, plenty of maps etc were provided by house owner. Little cafes on the square served our needs as did the excellent grocer and bakeries. Supermarket on edge of town was more than adequate and is within walking distance of house. I think it would be perfectly possible not to hire a car, especially if the main theme of holiday was walking.
Special word of thanks to Julie who made booking the holiday a breeze. She is very helpful and friendly and I know if needed in an emergency she would be quick to respond. I Wouldn't hesitate to recommend Maison du Paradis and it's stunningly beautiful location!!
The house is located in one side of the town square, just few steps from all the stores, restaurants and bank, in the back of the house the view it's an inspiration, Julie was very helpful an ready to answer any questions we had, she found us a nice maid to clean the house at our request in the middle of our stay there, the owner with a welcoming note left for us a nice bottle of red wine, a nice touch!
The house is pretty, comfortable, individual, very well equipped and has a great combination of being central but with lovely views and outdoor space. Everything was clean, well-kept and easy to manage. Having two bathrooms plus an outdoor loo was great. Both bedrooms are attractive and comfortable, with charming antique beds. Everyone slept well. The bedroom overlooking the square was fun and the back bedroom has a wonderful green view. There is a choice of restaurants, cafes and early morning bread around the square but it's surprisingly quiet in the house. When there were evening events, they finished on the dot of midnight and we enjoyed them. The market is three days a week and very convenient. We had no car but there are beautiful walks from the door. There is a small but good shop in the village for most things, including a book exchange, plus a supermarket about fifteen minutes walk away. We would particularly recommend Les Temps des Cerises restaurant on the Boulevard Clemenceau. The town swimming pool is great and you can also swim more adventurously in the waterfalls up the hill, if you don't mind them being cold.
Vernet is the most beautiful place, reasonably quiet even in August, and the house is ideal with a very helpful and kind manager. We are hoping to return.
