“Off the beaten path, and very interesting”
Reviewed 2 May 2014 via mobile

Quaint town in beautiful country. Tour bus let us off just a short walk from the tombs. A nice path takes you from tomb to tombs some are not accessible. Steep steps take you down to viewing area. Beautiful frescos on the tomb walls and ceilings. Nice gift shop with bathrooms as well as a snack stand is on premises.

“Must Visit”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

A visit to the Necropolis is a MUST. You will not believe your eyes when you see the beauty and detail of the paintings in the tombs. What makes them more remarkable is to realize they date back to the 4th and 5th century B.C.

“Definite 'must see' for the physically able”
Reviewed 1 March 2014

These tombs are off the beaten track for foreign tourists but is definitely worth the effort of visiting, but don't bother if you have problems with steps, all you would see are the humps on the ground and block built sheds.

Each of the open tombs has an block built entrance with a board providing a description of the contents and paintings in a few different languages (not often seen in Italy). You then descend steep stone steps to the tomb itself. Turn on the lights for the steps - they are steep and can be irregular. The steps are narrow and so only a couple of people at a time can see in through the glass door.

Lighting in the tombs is on timers to help prevent light damage to the paintings and to save money. The tombs themselves are stunning and another thing that they do here to prevent damage to the artwork is that they have fitted environmental controls within the tombs, so you can only see in through the door window, some of the windows are misted inside the double glazing.

Photography is allowed everywhere in this site.

On the day that we visited there were less than 20 people there. This meant that there were no queues or crowds fighting to see each tomb and we could see all of the open ones.

“Very Worth a Visit”
Reviewed 14 January 2014

We found the Necropolis to be a very interesting place and were very glad we had taken the time to come here. We liked the way you could climb down into tomb level and look in at them through protective glass. We started with a visit to the museum, which sets the scene for this site.
