“Clean and comfy beds - hostel rather than hotel”
Reviewed 2 July 2011

Went with National Travel. 18hr journey both ways, really took the shine off. Wish we'd met the coach at Dover, to come home we had to get thhe luggage on the the bus for 4.45 a.m. Killer! Anyway! The hotel was clean, decor dated and very tired in places and rooms tiny but all clean and beds very comfortable. They managed to fit the ensuite into a space the size of a wardrobe. When you sat on the loo your knees were under the sink! No window or ventilation, just a concertina door, so best off using the toilets in the hotel itself for serious stuff! We were up two flights of very winding stairs, no lift, some help with baggage would have been good. Breakfast was very good value on a couple of the days when they provided eggs and proper ham. The other two days, it was polony style sausage and on the last day vanilla pudding that seemed to be leftover from general evening meals most probably left over from the other party (a coach load of teenage schoolgirls). On our arrival night, just before midnight we were given a goulash type soup with plastic bread, sliced cheese and polony sausage. Evening meals for the next three days were more substantial but were generally far too salty for my palate. I asked for water but was told I had to buy it even though we had already spent €20 at the bar on wine and beer! Told me it wasn't the German way! Kareoke was EVERY night, with the sound carrying up to the rooms, together with traffic and train noises till after midnight. Take earplugs. No phone, tv or tea making facilities in the room. Have stayed in hostels with better facilities, but it was cheap. The adage of you get what you pay for is 100% true. The trips were good, the beer was great. I would visit the Rhine again, but I would pay extra for the frills I found missing.

stayed here for 2 nights in may with an organised caledonian hols tour, rooms basic but clean, meals wholesome but basic, drink reasonably priced but the highlight is the beerkellar with a dj that throwsback to nthe 70's but fun, dont take it serious or you'll crack up, get a few beers and schnapps shooters and go with the flow you'll like it and the krackyoaky .great laugh.nothing much in the town except an aldi and a nice bar beside the rhine .lovely views, ideally placed for tours up and down the rhine, rudesheim and koblenz well worth a visit

Travelled with National Holidays from Newcastle upon Tyne. Be warned - they use a feeder coach system and travel via Dover so very long journey! Hotel was all that we expected and more. Warm welcome when we arrived continued until we left. Food simple but filling. Lovely to be able to walk out of the door and have the Rhine at the other side of the road, literally a stone's throw away. Some rooms small, but ours was a family room big enough to have a party in. No tea or coffee in rooms so do as we did and take your own kettle. Did not bother with Friedel's entertainment. Much better going for a stroll and sampling the local hostelries. Want to go back again but NOT via Dover!

Room Tip: Rooms at front of hotel have best views.

This hotel is clean comfortable and quaint. We were well looked after by the management and staff who made us feel welcome from the start. The location was good with a ferry landing near by for trips on the Rhine. The food was basic but good. The entertainment was fun. Feddie the resident entertainer got everyone in to a party mood. I look forward to my next visit.

I really enjoying staying at the hotel, which as said earlier was a monastry.
Large family room for myself, grand daughter and elderly disabled freind.
Further down corridor my teenager son and grandson stayed they loved it.

It was very cold outside and it snowed whilst there but the hotel extremely warm 24hrs if you wanted or needed it.

We were a mere stroll from the Rhine with views as far as the eye could see.

Food was plentiful ,wholesome, and very German we ate the lot and Teenagers always got tons of bread with the nighly home made soup.

Staff were very helpful and friendly.

The free bar was not abused in fact hardly seen any one drinking very much.

Not being drinker the soft drinks was also free for the children Gluwine was 1 euro for a steaming large glass for my friend,

The trips were amazing, the others on the coach great folks as you can gather loved all the trip..............but never going via Dover again on trips............

Picked trips now with Sailing from Hull.

Room Tip: Take a chance enjoy what comes your way and love t
