“Very well organised hotel”
Reviewed 23 August 2014

We have just returned (party of 10) from a two week stay at this hotel. I would say that the reviews that have been posted to date and fair and accurate in that one is very well catered for at this hotel.

With regard to shuttle buses, they are very convenient for the short journey into Sorrento and visiting in the evening is probably the best time especially if you like a little shopping! We did boat trips along the Amalfi coast and also to Capri and I would certainly endorse both without question. My advise would be to pay a little extra for a boat that has no more than 12 people. Trust me it is worth it!! We also visited Pompeii which was breath taking especially visiting the Ampthitheatre. For anybody that's interested.....this is where Pink Floyd filmed "Live at Pompeii"....a great novelty if you're a Floyd fan like me :-)

You will go very far to find a hotel such as this in that the staff here work extremely hard to ensure that your stay is a happy one. Whether it's the maids that tend the rooms, the lifeguards that watch over the kids whilst bringing everyone drinks and ice cream, the staff on reception, the waiters, the cooks that prepare the food and the bar staff, even the porters are all truly exceptional people and it would be also fair to say that they would not look out of place at the Hilton Hotel, oh no, the staff, again, are amazing in every regard. My only concern here is that I feel ( and I could be wrong ) that the staff are not appreciated by the management despite the hard work they put in. In saying that, I do sincerely hope I'm wrong and I'll say no more on the subject.

The food here is fabulous, there simply is no other way of describing it. The branded drinks, including the soft drinks are all branded. In terms of quality, this is the best hotel I've stayed in.
The pool area is rather small, however, getting a sun lounger was never an issue and one does have the option of using the beach also. The views are jaw dropping and the sunset every evening is a memory that will stay with me forever :-)

I'd like to give a very special mention to Cristian in the bar. This guy works very hard in pleasing everybody and his english is very good and so one can have a good chat with him. Nothing is ever too much for him and this hotel should be very grateful that he works there because he is a great asset to them!!

I'd also like to mention Benedetta who also works in the bar. She is a lovely lady who can't do enough for you. Valentino is a also a nice guy who has a smile like a cheshire cat!!! :-)

Like I said above, ALL work extremely hard for you and if you choose to stay here you will definitely not be disappointed. This hotel is successful and successful for one reason only............THE STAFF!!!

We've just returned from a lovely and relaxing 10 days at the Alimuri. After being delayed by an hour on the coach transfer, we were tired and hungry, but the lovely greeting from the reception staff soon changed our mood. Although lunch was nearly over, they still managed to seat us and there was plenty of food left. Throughout our stay, it was clear to us that the staff really made the hotel what it was. The receptionists were always very helpful and always managed to squeeze us onto the shuttle bus if we made a last minute decision to go into Sorrento; the maid always kept our room clean and changed the towels daily; the shuttle bus drivers got us into Sorrento and back again and to the meeting points for our excursions safely; the bar staff (Christian, Valentino and the two ladies) always supplied us with lovely drinks, always with a joke and a smile; the waitering staff were always fantastic, particularly Roberto who made us laugh every single day; the chefs who provided us with the lovely food breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally the lifeguards Francesco and Franco who provided us with drinks and ice cream on the beach all day long.

There was always a big selection of food on the buffet and the a la carte menu changed every night. On occasion, the fish dishes were a bit hit and miss which we were disappointed with as we both love fish, and being by the sea it didn't seem right to eat anything but fish! And it was clear that some of the food was not freshly made, however this is understandable as there were a lot of people to cater for.

The entertainment was not the best, and was pretty much the same every night (although the singers alternated and the songs changed order). The best evening of entertainment was the gala night on their bank holiday. We had a party on the beach and it was really nice to see the staff letting their hair down.

The shuttle bus was great, and having to give them 24hours notice helped us to plan our holiday more, though they were always accommodating when we made a last minute decision.

All in all the hotel was great value for money and we will definitely be returning in better future!

Room Tip: Choose a sea view room.

We arrived at the Hotel Mar Alimuri after quite a long transfer stuck in traffic. We were greeted straight away and swiftly checked in, we then had a quick introduction to the hotel and were taken straight down to lunch. Whilst we were at lunch our cases were taken up to our rooms for us.

ROOMS:
We had a street facing room with no balcony, this is what we paid for so we knew what to expect but we would upgrade to a sea view with balcony if we went again.
Air conditioning is free and absolutely brilliant.
The rooms are spotlessly clean, beds made up every day and changed every other day. They are well equipped with a large dressing table and mirror to get ready at, large double wardrobe and plenty of drawers, 6ft bed made up of 2 singles very good quality and really comfortable.
Free safe and free mini fridge with 4 free bottles of water provided each day.
The bathroom.......unfortunately this is our only complaint about the hotel, the bathroom was in need of total renovation. Everything else about this hotel was 4 star plus but the bathroom was 1 star. Tiny cramped bath with a very poor shower (but we managed and it wouldn't stop us going back)

FOOD AND DRINK:

The food was fabulous and varied. Breakfast and lunch were both buffet style and evening meal was a four course a la carte meal with a different menu every night including a buffet. Snacks were available in the bar if anyone could possibly fit then in.
Drinks were also in plentiful supply, all named brands and served to you as and when you wanted them. The staff would also bring drinks down to the beach at regular intervals. The all inclusive bar served all day until 12am

STAFF:

What can I say, the staff from the front desk to the cleaners were amazing, every single one of them were really helpful and polite. We have particularly high praise for Louigi the waiter from the restaurant, what a lovely helpful guy. Other hotels could learn a thing or two about what makes customers happy from these staff.

THE BEACH:

Take flipflops/beach shoes. It is a shingle beach which gets very hot to walk on and is quite rough on your feet but its beautiful all the same. We never had a problem getting a sun lounger and parasol they are free of charge as are the beach towels that you can change every two days. As I mentioned the beach staff come around at regular intervals with trays of cold bottled water, cola, lemonade, beer and coffee for anyone who wants it.

THE POOL:

I can't comment on the pool too much as we didn't use it but every morning the staff were out cleaning around it and setting up. It wasn't a huge pool but there never seemed to be a problem getting a lounger if you wanted one, there was defiantly not the 6am crew getting up and reserving their loungers here!!! .There was also some other lovely comfortable poolside furniture to use

FREE SHUTTLE BUS:

The free bus is a god send. They ask you to book 24 hours in advance both to go and come back but we asked on the spur of the moment a couple of times if there was still room to fit us on the next bus and they didn't mind at all. The bus picks you up right outside the hotel and drops you off 5 minutes walk from the bus/train station and 10 minutes from the main square in Sorrento.

This hotel is a great base from which to explore many of the major attractions, we chose to do this on our own using the free shuttle bus, trains and hydrofoil. Even with our very limited Italian and no knowledge of the area we found this relatively easy to do and much cheaper. If this is not for you though there are lots of tours and trips offered by the hotel and the tour operator, also if you intend staying out for the day you can request a packed lunch to take with you the day before. The views from the rear of this hotel are spectacular as are the sunsets.

We don't tend to go back to the same place twice but we would defiantly make an exception in this case.

We've just returned last week from the best holiday we have ever had. We booked this holiday in 2013 through Thomas Cook and to be honest we relied on other reviews on tripadvisor to guide us (and thank God we did).

This hotel is just wonderful and serious value for money. The staff were outstanding, friendly and the hardest working team we've had the pleasure to witness. From our welcome by Antonella and the reception team upon arrival we knew we would be treated superbly and we were not wrong. Our room was comfortable, clean and cool and had everything we needed for our two week stay. The housekeeping team did a wonderful job despite the hotel being fully booked and extremely busy. We've read on here about there being only one English channel on the TV and this is true (but seriously you should not be in your room long in this hotel as its got so much more to offer than TV channels!!).

We then met the bar team, Christian, Valentino and the two lovely girls who support them. Nothing was too much for them and they worked tirelessly to make sure everyone was happy at all times ... in addition the range of drinks on the all-inclusive menu was huge and every cocktail we had was yummy.

The waiting team in the restaurant are serious grafters and at peak times work many hours to ensure that their clients are happy. Antonino, Roberto and their staff allowed me to practice my Italian and were thrilled to meet someone that could speak their language.

And last but most definitely not least Francesco and Franco the two 'lifeguards' who spend their days sporting the biggest smiles we've ever seen and who literally never stop working bringing coffee, water, soft drinks and beers to anyone and everyone poolside or on the beach. They made our holiday and we now consider them Italian friends.

This hotel is magnificent and even though it is a few miles outside Sorrento town we found this a good thing (the free shuttle bus is air conditioned and the drivers again are lovely and cannot do enough for you). We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, the scenery and above all the staff to anyone - we will return and cannot wait to see all of our Mar Alimuri friends in the future. Thanks so, so much for a brilliant holiday.

Hotel was amazing!..clean and well kept as was the room. We had a room which had a double bed and a balcony. We were situated just above where the evening singer wabbled out, which was entertaining, and every evening we dropped off to sleep listening to the waves lapping against the seashore very tranquil. Thomas cook had 2 bill boards in reception but Thomson had none, which was a bit annoying! Our rep was Steph, who is a very bright, bubbly and cheerful young lady, only problem was she could have done with a bit of brushing up on info about the trips. We were told to take a pack up supplied by the hotel on the Amalfie drive but then we were told we were not allowed to eat oustside the restaurant because of the litter, so my mum who is 85 had no choice but to pay for, and go for the already planned meal at a cost. The drive as expected was beautiful but seems that on these trips you are literally just paying for the petrol as everything needs to be paid for additionally ie boat ride round Capri, the Vatican, the Colluseum, well everthing else really! The private beach outside the hotel was lovely, the sea was warm and we were waited on by the life guards who constantly fetched drinks for the sun bathers! Didnt like the peddlers constantly harrassing us whilst sunbathing, felt very uncomfortable. 7 days was not long enough could have done with a month!
Would deffo stay here again : )

The hotel location is perfect. The surroundings are stunning. The rooms are cleaned daily and the cleaners are very kind and polite. The air con was spot on in our room and we paid extra for the sea view and it was a very good choice because it was amazing. Other guests that we were with didn't and they regretted this. The beach is on the door step and the pool is a little cold but nice. The food is quite basic. Pretty repetitive. The waiting staff are very helpful but can seem particularly rude and abrupt. But this could be the language barrier. On the other hand, the bar staff were wonderful! Particularly the bar manager (Christian), his English was fantastic and made me and my family feel very welcome, going out of his way plenty of times to get our little boy warm milk. Some other staff should take a leaf out of his book. If they did then this hotel would be a much more enjoyable experience.
