I visited Tsala about 2 weeks ago. This is my 2nd visit.
This time around, we stayed in the newly built 2bedroom suites. All that I can say is.. fantastic!!! It was very convenient, as my young son had his own room, but still in the same villa.
Absolutely spectacular view from private balcony. a lot of attention to detail inside the villa. Great bath amenities, and just overall attention to detail. (even received a bottle of champagne on arrival as it was my husband's birthday) The lodge even organized me a babysitter for a couple of hours at night so that I could enjoy a dinner in the restaurant - which is walking distance from the villa.
I cannot fault anything. It was awesome, and I wish we could stay longer!

Room Tip: For a family, I would definitely recommend the 2bedroom villas!!!

Very nice place to stay, really enjoyed this one which is a great location for either knysna or plettenburg bay, shame we were only here one night!

Reception and breakfast area a little tired, but breakfast was excellent as was dinner in Zinzis restaurant just a 2 min walk away.

Rooms themselves were amazing and very well appointed, lovely views, very peaceful and worthy of their 5 star rating.

The initial reception/ welcome was perhaps a bit too "friendly" and long winded which I cut short after a while!

When we left the next day the car had even been cleaned, great stuff thanks!

Anyway highly recommended in all aspects.

Tsala Treetop Lodge is a dream property if you just want to stay in and relax. The rooms are well appointed, there is 100% privacy and the views are to die for.Even better than the spectacular property is the service and care taken by the staff to make you feel special. We were welcomed with champagne and canapes.Every evening with turndown service, we were left with goodies such as marshmellows for toasting in the fireplace, hot chocolate, hand rolled truffles...one evening we came back to the bath tub prepared for a luxurious lie in completely surrounded by scented candles .Before we left, our car was cleaned and we were sent off with refreshments for the roadtrip ahead!! I was completely blown away. The inhouse restaurant, Zinzi, serves excellent food from a limited menu at reasobable prices.Reservations necessary since it caters to the local residents as well.Pletenberg Bay and Knysna are very close by and this makes a great base to explore these places. What they really need to improve on is their internet connectivity since most of us need to be connected even while on a holiday!!There is wifi connectivity only in the reception and you need to troop in there to use your laptop which is really inconvenient. The plunge pool needs to be cleaned regularly since there is a lot of debris falling in to really make it enticing enough to use!! I would definitely love to visit again..Tsala is outstanding

This hotel is all about its dramatic location which is nestled at the top of a wooded valley looking out over the canopy of the forest. At every turn of the discreet spacious suites the forest beckons providing a fantastic place to relax . Other than in the reception area there are few other activities within the hotel complex. The popular on site restaurant offered good honest food at reasonable prices but failed to make full use of the plentiful local sources of food. Excellent venue to slow down and reflect what is really important in your life.

The Good :

Amazing location
Peaceful
Interacting with the monkeys

The Bad :

Like Birkenhead house in Hermanus, we thought that this property needs sprucing up to get it to the standard set by others in the same price bracket in South Africa now in 2012. I think the owners know this as they seem to be doing the sprucing in the adjacent Hunter's Country Lodge which is getting a big make over. we were told that the younger generation of the Hunter family have also designed and delivered the house restaurant Zinzi which is shared between the properties and is more t the standard of what you would expect for this kind of money.

Service in thehotel is just a bit weird - they are over friendly but insincere and it feels like it needs a good new GM to put the place back in to the 21st century.

Internet access is awful (an old faulty cheap home router in reception), and they know they need to fix it. They also know that today's travellers want internet in the rooms to be able to send emails and stay in touch with the world and apparently it's in the plan.

This is a great location, and it was probably amazing when it opened, but it needs to be given a new lease of life thou better service management and attention to detail (clean the pool every day when it has stuff dropping in to it) and update the rooms and refresh the carpets etc to go with the amazing backdrop.

My wife and I spent a few nights at Tsala to celebrate her birthday. We chose lodge number 1 as it is the most private of the suites, with one bedroom. The suites are superbly decorated wooden lodges overlooking the Harkerville forest and the valley beyond. With a small infinity pool off the lounge. Each suite is totally private and the staff is attentive but discrete. The beds are magnificently comfortable as were the other facilities in the lodge, especially the very unique (locally) handcrafted log fire which we made use of one chilly night. Breakfast (included in the suite charge) was tremendous. We dined at Zinzi restaurant each evening which is in the grounds of Tsala - Food, obviously, was to the same high standard of the lodges. The sweets were particularly good but our favourite was the "Eton Mess"! There is plenty to see and do in the Plettenberg Bay, Harkerville, Knysna are but this place is so good it is difficult to move!
In all a very unique and special birthday. We feel privileged to have been able to spend a most relaxing few days at Tsala.
No fitness centre but who needs one with the magnificent walks in the gardens!

Room Tip: Chose suite 1 for total privacy

This was our second visit to Tsala and we weren't disappointed. The rooms are beautifully furnished in a contemporary Africa style. Bathrooms are impressive with huge shower, stone bath and outdoor shower ! Lovely little balcony overlooking the forest. The lounge area with wood burning stove is very cosy and welcome on chilly nights.

We dined at the Zinzi restaurant on both nights we stayed - great value for incredibly creative and flavoursome dishes.

Only criticism was that although the small plunge pool is welcome on very hot day, it wasn't heated when we were staying and was really cold- quick dip only !
