We were travelling from the Port Elizabeth area (Gorah Elephant Camp) to Stellenbosch and decided to stay in Plett as a stopover for a couple of nights. The reviews for this hotel were really good so we went with it. I am so glad that we did. The hotel is impressive from the moment you walk in. Craig, the manager, met us and showed us to our rooms. He was a lovely lost for the whole time that we were there. From the outside the rooms look quite rustic. When you step inside they resemble a London City pad! We had the two bedroomed villa and it was beautiful. It had a kitchen and dining area which we did not need, but it also had a lounge with fire (lit for you each evening) and complimentary port. So after we came back from dinner and the girls had gone to bed we sat chatting in front of a lovely fire drinking the odd glass of port - how fantastic! Both bedrooms had en-suite bathroom facilities which were out of this world! Breakfast was really delicious and very plentiful with a huge amount of choice. On the first night we ate in Plett at the Fat Fish which was really nice and definitely needed a reservation - Craig organised this for us although the restaurant was obviously full to the brim! He also organised a local taxi who was really helpful and not at all expensive. On the second night we ate at Zinzi which is the hotel restaurant. This was a fantastic meal and I would thoroughly recommend. All in all a lovely stay. We did not venture out of the hotel into Plett very much, but really did not need to. We took a day trip with our tour company whilst we were there, but again, Craig is happy to organise all of the touring that you may need. Definitely worth a visit.

Room Tip: Stayed with children aged 10 and 12. Two bedroomed villa is fab.

A very unique hotel with a lovely first class suites built into the treetops above Plattenburg Bay. The food is excellent and the service was superb. Visiting the Zenzi restaurant is a must. The breakfast is also excellent. The managers always seem to be available to help with any particular issue. The hotel is expensive at full price but many times during somewhat of the off-season price point drops too much more attractive levels. Overall a very worthwhile vacation experience.

Having left the St James at Knysna just down the road we set off for Tsala Treetop Lodge.

Having read the reviews and seen the photos, both official and other travellers, we could not wait to see what it was like.

The answer is wonderful, fantastic and many other adjectives.

On arrival we were warmly greeted, handed a refreshing drink and invited to make ourselves comfortable whilst completing all the necessary paperwork.

The photos do not do the reception area justice, it is an oasis of peace with outside and inside seating areas, a small library, a small selection of items to buy and the restaurant, not Zinzi which is a short walk away from the main complex.

We were then escorted to our suite, in the treetops, this part had intrigued me as I had wondered how you got to them, did it involve ladders? No it doesn't, there is a walkway round which all the suites lead off. You have a private path to your own front door, and if any staff need to come in whilst you are there they use a phone at the gate to check if it is ok to come in.

Once through that door you are in the courtyard, complete with infinity plunge pool and outdoor furniture.

On entering the suite you come into the main lounge area, complete with wood burning stove, the chimney for this divides the bedroom from the lounge, so that you can see the stove from both rooms. There is a deck leading from this room with chairs where you can sit and watch the views from the trees.

The bathroom leads off the bedroom, and has a granite freestanding bath as well as a large indoor shower, and do not forget the outside shower as well.

I must make comment here that the air-conditioning unit in the bedroom is the quietest I have ever come across but also efficient.

Once you are settled in you realise that you are not overlooked in any direction and could be totally alone in the middle of the trees.

    These suites are amazing.

We did "take the plunge" and yes the water was cold, but we soon warmed up in the sunshine.

We went for a walk in the grounds to see where Zinzi was and decided that we would eat at the main building instead, purely because I do not like being out in the dark.........

If you read other reviews you will see several comments about the monkeys, they are all true.

Before going for our walk I brought all our things in from the patio area and made sure all the windows and doors were locked, not just closed. Pat thought I was being excessively careful, but within a few minutes of having gone inside we had some visitors........it started with just one monkey investigating the new people on the block, within a few minutes it was like being surrounded by the Indians on Wagon Train!. There were monkeys on the patio, monkeys on the deck, monkeys on the roof........they even brought a couple of baby monkeys with them.
A couple of them tried pushing the doors to see if they would open...........
They stayed for about ten minutes or so, then decided we were no fun and went away again.

We ate in the main building, and the food was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive, and during talks with him he said that he was on a temporary contract with Tsala but hoped to complete his education and become an engineer.

On return to our suite the bed had been turned down, and water left.

The other nice touches are a small decanter of port is provided, some handmade sweets and marshmallows are left in the room.

Breakfast the next morning was outside and excellent.

As with everywhere else we have stayed the staff are friendly, helpful and efficient.

As we only had the one night here we stayed in the grounds and did not explore the surrounding area, perhaps next time......... and when it was time to go we were supplied with a little goody bag to keep us going to our next destination.

We both think this was the most magical place we stayed at, and definitely the quirkiest.
You would have to be very jaded not to enjoy a stay here.

Myself and my wife stayed here recently for 2 nights in a Treetop Suite. These are amazing! Up in the trees, with lounge, bedroom, bathroom, 2 decks and your own infinity pool! The whole suite is luxurious. There is even a log burner in case you get cold. The view from your decks are great, just nothing but trees and greenery. When you can force yourself outside your suite, the communal lounge, restaurant, gardens are very welcoming. Breakfast was good, with a cold buffet and hot servings to order. We ate our dinners at the Zinzi restaurant (on site) which was first class. Service throughout was excellent. Our only disappointment was that we did not see the monkeys which inhabit the forest and apparently are a little naughty! If in the area, stay here you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Get the Treetop Suites.

During our three week trip to South Africa this was definitely one of the highlights (if not THE highlight, but I really did enjoy the safari part…). This is an absolutely beautiful place. The suites are so private, and are beautifully built and furnished. Being all alone in this magical place was very special. We were only there for 2 nights, and I could definitely have stayed for longer but then South Africa has so much to see! The staff were very helpful and room service was perfect. We decided not to venture out of our paradise for the day and spent it beside our pool with lunch delivered. Dinner at Zinzi restaurant was probably the best we had in South Africa - quite innovative and tasty. I can't recommend this hotel enough.

Room Tip: We stayed in suite 10 which was perfect, but they are probably all lovely.
