“Fantasy lodging along the Garden route”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

Tsala is one of the most beautiful, exotic and romantic places we've ever stayed. We particularly enjoyed having an outside shower (as well as one inside), the cold plunge, a fireplace and the downturn service that includes hot water bottles. The hotel restaurant, Zinzi, is excellent, and the hotel breakfast great.

Room Tip: Each villa is separated from each other and faces into the forest. They all seem wonderful.

My friends and I hadn't intended to stay at Tsala but by a strange twist of fate our original accommodation booking fell through and we were literally stranded when we arrived at Plettenberg Bay in the evening with no place to stay. Imagine our serendipitous fortune to have dined at the wonderful restaurant The Fat Fish where the manager referred us to the owner of Tsala whom subsequently hearing our plight gave us a great deal for the night. The stay at Tsala blew our minds with the unobstructed views of the tree tops, it's architecture and the breakfast spread. The rooms were luxuriously decked out with massive bathrooms. Truly grateful for the hospitality and kindness shown by the owner and the wonderful establishment he has created!

We stayed in one of the villas for 4 nights in May 2014. The Tsala treetop location is an incredible property set on a cliff edge overlooking dense forest. The rooms have large windows overlooking the entire forest as well as outdoor showers. We did not see any monkeys during our stay but the forest is alive with the sound of birds. The staff was extremely caring and friendly. The rooms are spacious and well planned, with large wardrobes, changing areas and double sinks. Definitely a must do if you are visiting the Knysna/Pletternberg area.

Tsala was recommended to us by our travel agent because due to some confusion with dates our first choice wasn't available. But we were very pleased with Tsala.

We were coming in from Mala Mala and therefore arrived pretty late (9:30pm) the day we checked in. But the manager on duty (Danielwas very welcoming and helpful. He said he had already made a reservation for us for dinner the next night at the restaurant on their property, Zinzi, since it was a weekend and tables there are hard to come by. When we told him we hadn't had dinner yet, he took our order (he was also aware of our dietary restrictions) and had it delivered to our room. Even the next morning the manager on duty (Craig) was very helpful with helping us plan our day around Plett and the Crags.

The food was simply amazing (dinner in the room, breakfast and the food at Zinzi)!

The rooms were spacious and very luxurious. They come with plunge pool (it was too cold to use), a fireplace, heated floors by the bed, a really spacious bathroom with an outdoor shower and beautiful forest views. You truly feel you are in the middle of nowhere.

The location is far away from most things and having a car is a must to get anywhere. We had rented a car, so this was not an issue for us. But it is definitely not the kind of place where you can just step out and find tons of things. So I wouldn't recommend Tsala to anyone who doesn't have a car.

We are sad that we didn't get to spend as much time as we would have liked in the hotel cause we were there only for two nights and Knysna and the Plettenberg Bay area also have a lot to do and see!

Beautiful surroundings, rooms and bathrooms equipped with more than you could want.
Staff are friendly and attentive enough. Even though it was raining we enjoyed our stay. Would have only asked for more fire wood.
Will definitely visit again.

We were travelling from the Port Elizabeth area (Gorah Elephant Camp) to Stellenbosch and decided to stay in Plett as a stopover for a couple of nights. The reviews for this hotel were really good so we went with it. I am so glad that we did. The hotel is impressive from the moment you walk in. Craig, the manager, met us and showed us to our rooms. He was a lovely lost for the whole time that we were there. From the outside the rooms look quite rustic. When you step inside they resemble a London City pad! We had the two bedroomed villa and it was beautiful. It had a kitchen and dining area which we did not need, but it also had a lounge with fire (lit for you each evening) and complimentary port. So after we came back from dinner and the girls had gone to bed we sat chatting in front of a lovely fire drinking the odd glass of port - how fantastic! Both bedrooms had en-suite bathroom facilities which were out of this world! Breakfast was really delicious and very plentiful with a huge amount of choice. On the first night we ate in Plett at the Fat Fish which was really nice and definitely needed a reservation - Craig organised this for us although the restaurant was obviously full to the brim! He also organised a local taxi who was really helpful and not at all expensive. On the second night we ate at Zinzi which is the hotel restaurant. This was a fantastic meal and I would thoroughly recommend. All in all a lovely stay. We did not venture out of the hotel into Plett very much, but really did not need to. We took a day trip with our tour company whilst we were there, but again, Craig is happy to organise all of the touring that you may need. Definitely worth a visit.

Room Tip: Stayed with children aged 10 and 12. Two bedroomed villa is fab.
