“italian lakes”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

This is a great hotel for exploring the surrounding area. Yes it's a short walk (or bus ride) to the lakeside, but once there you have a range of things to do - you can take in the views, catch the ferry, hire bike, enjoy a drink (or two), sail, windsurf or simply watch the world go by.

The hotel itself is clean, well cared for, with friendly staff and good food. We took the 'full board' option, which was very good value.

The rooms whilst not overly large, were bigger than expected. Most look out into the mountains and come with air-conditioning, TV, tea/coffee, a reasonably priced mini-bar and a (free) safe.

We enjoyed our stay and I am confident that you would too.

Room Tip: The higher floors have the best views.

This was our first trip to Italy to celebrate my 50th and my daughters 18th. When we arrived at the Hotel we were impressed straight away by how clean and welcoming it was. The lady receptionist was very polite and spoke better english than we spoke Italian (or not).

We had two rooms both with Tea and Coffee making facilities and a balcony but faced the rear of the Hotel. This wasn't a problem as it overlooked the gardens and the mountains behind. Everyone had bathrobes and slippers provided and we were encouraged to use them. It was 35 degrees when we arrived and the air conditioning made it a very comfortable environment.

I cannot write a review without talking about the food. The quality was the highest i think you could get anywhere and there was plenty of it.

For breakfast you could have everything from cereals and toast, cold meats and fresh breads, crepes or omeletes cooked to order , salmon and presecco, bacon and eggs cooked any way you liked.

On arrival we had lunch provided but had packed lunches for the rest of our stay. The choice of food available for lunch again took us by surprise as we could have had three courses if we wanted every single day (I can feel the pounds going on now).

To further add to my calorie count there was afternoon tea between 4:00 and 5:00. A large variety of cakes, pastries and fruits as well as drinks of all types being made available.

Now we get to the main food event the evening dinner. Here we had 5 courses of quality food that brought to you the great tastes of Italy. We had the salad to start with and then the set menu which comprised of 3 choices for each of the remining 4 courses. Even my children tried things that they never would have tried at home. (They did do some fries for them on one occasion).

The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them.
Ava Tonelli walked around the tables introducing herself to everyone which was very special as she was a nice lady.

I have to mention Lorenzo who took our orders as he was a wonderful man with a good sense of humour.

Once again I would like to thank the staff for making it a wonderful stay.

We chose this hotel to celebrate my birthday, making it to another decade.
It was a perfect choice. We had a fabulous time. Our room was very comfortable, immaculately clean and we had great views towards the mountains.

The food was very good, plenty of choice, lots of fresh fruit and salads. In the afternoons, the hotel provided a buffet of freshly baked cakes, biscuits, fresh fruit, yoghurt, coffee , soft drinks. The cakes were delicious; my partner was looking forward to afternoon tea from the moment he got up. And you won’t get charged for it, what a lovely and generous touch.
On my birthday, I found our table decorated, candles, a bottle of Prosecco on ice. Thank you so much.

We loved the location of the small village up the hill from Lake Garda. It wasn’t busy like the typical tourist towns and the views walking down the Roman road towards Torbole are spectacular! Nago is a quiet, quaint Italian village far removed from the tourist crowds. When we returned from a Venice excursion (beautiful architecture, but huge crowds), we were so pleased to see our hotel Continental, it felt like coming home. Nago has a few restaurants, a supermarket and a great ice cream parlour; and some nice walks or cycle rides through the wine fields.

The local bus service is very cheap and reliable (just over a Euro to Torbole and €1.30 to Riva). We used the local buses several times and were pleased that on each occasion not only did we manage to get on but also got a seat (in high season July).
Having visited Southern Italy a couple of years ago, we were surprised how patient and polite the drivers were around Lake Garda.

We found a week not long enough. The hotel offers all sorts of great services which we would have loved to try, such as bike hire, trekking and yoga. Loved the indoor and outdoor swimming pool.
On several evenings, there was life music in the garden area, all very good and bar prices very reasonable.

We met Ava Tonelli, what a nice lady, despite her mature age, she is taking an active interest in the running of the hotel, checks that you are happy, personally wished us all the best on our departure. All the staff are very professional, helpful and friendly. (Loved Lorenzo’s sense of humour).

Book it! You won’t regret it.

We stayed here for 8 days in July and cannot speak highly enough of our experience at the hotel from the start to the finish of our holiday. We stayed as part of an organized package which included half board. As we arrived just before 11pm we were not expecting dinner but were pleasantly surprised to find a meal waiting for us. The food for the rest of our visit was plentiful and delicious, with lots of choice. Our room was spotlessly clean, as was the rest of the hotel, and comfortable too. We were on the first floor looking towards the outdoor pool and had a large balcony. Full praise goes to the staff who were, without exception, so friendly, helpful and efficient. Every day was service with a smile. Special thanks go to Alex in the bar, Lornezo, Omah and Tiziyana in the dining room, Valerie in reception and Laura our maid. Hotel facilities are excellent too - plenty of sun loungers round the outdoor pool which was large with plenty of shady areas if you wanted them. We did wonder about the location being up the hilside from Torbole, but the views were amazing and transport was easy and inexpensive. We did walk down a couple of times, not a problem but would not have wanted to walk back! All in all, a superb hotel in a fantastic location and one I would not hesitate to recommend. I would definitely go back.

We stayed for 8 days at this hotel and it was one of the best holidays we have ever had. The hotel was spotlessly clean, the staff were the friendliest and most helpful and you certainly did not go hungry. The rooms have wood floors, plenty of room with balconies overlooking beautiful scenery. Alex makes the best Hugos - ever!! Great vacation spot.

We stayed for 2 weeks in June at this hotel and it was fantastic. Spotlessly clean, fantastic staff that are always polite and incredibly helpful. They all speak English perfectly as well as several other languages!
Our room was very spacious and clean with everything you need for your stay.
Food was lovely, always plenty of choice to suit all tastes. Afternoon tea was a great little added extra too.
Location for us was great, nice and quiet but with everything within easy reach. Downhill walk into Torbole doesnt take long and we did walk back up a few times and its really not that bad, however a ride back up on the bus was only 1 euro each so we did cheat a couple of times!
It was perfect having the indoor and outdoor pools especially for the not so sunny days :)
We used the local bus service several times throughout our stay to visit various places around the lake without any problems at all. Boat service around the lake from Torbole was very good too.
If we find ourselves back in the north of Italy then I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or for that matter any of the Tonelli family hotels as if they are all the same standard as this one then you cant go wrong!
Thank you all at Hotel Continental for a great holiday!
