“A fantastic villa in an amazing location”

We're a family of 5 with 3 kids aged 11, 10 and 3. We stayed at Casa Laura at the end of August 2016, and had a brilliant time. Yvonne and Delfo are really welcoming - we even got invited to join a village fund-raiser for the earthquake in central Italy on our first night there, and met some of the villagers who made us all feel really welcome. It wasn't until a few days after when we were walking around Sillico before eating at the restaurant in the village (also excellent) that we realised what a stunning location it was. Amazing views from every angle. The accommodation itself was perfect - really clean, very well equipped and came with a bottle of Prosecco - thanks! The swimming pool was great - just the thing you need to cool off in the summer.

Access to Sillico is a 20 minute drive up a windy road from the nearest small town, Pieve Fosciana, where the nearest supermarkets and restaurants etc. are. The road itself is a bit of an adventure for the first time, but we were soon used to it and I was happy to drive it at night by the end of the week - my advice would be to get a small a hire car as you can manage! Again, the views from the drive alone are amazing.

We managed to do day trips to Lucca, Pisa and Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. The most popular trip with all three kids was the 'Archeopark Fortezza delle Verrucole' - only about 30 mins drive from the villa, but one of the most stunning castles we've ever visited.

Really enjoyed our week in Casa Laura, and would highly recommend it to anyone!

“Haven of tranquility”
Reviewed 7 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We were new to this area of Italy and have definitely fallen in love with Sillico! Casa Laura was ideal for the four of us - 2 couples - plenty of space, extremely comfortable, clean and supplied with everything you could possibly need, thank you for the fizz too!

We found the house easily with Yvonne's directions, although the first time of driving up the hill from Pieve Fosciana we thought we'd taken a wrong turn. The bends seem to go on forever!

Fortunately when we arrived the weather was kind to us for a few days, so we were able to take advantage of the lovely terrace area, from where the views are amazing (see my photo from the loo! :)) and seemed to change every day. The other thing we all noticed was the absolute silence. Apart from the sounds of birds, insects and the sheep bells, there is not a sound - lovely! I did brave the pool on the hottest day, but unfortunately it was a little too chilly still. However if we'd have come a little later in the year, it would have been a real luxury.

We did have a few days of really grotty weather and the house was great to spend some time in. There was plenty of room for us to spread out and do different things. It's also well equipped with DVDs, books etc.

We were really pleased to discover there was a restaurant literally a few steps from the house, we ate there a number of times with lots of delicious (as you'd imagine) homemade dishes and the staff were all extremely friendly and welcoming, even with our poor grasp of Italian! It also doubled up as the local shop and we bought fresh bread there everyday.

It's worth knowing there are a couple of supermarkets down in Pieve Fosciana and also we got other supplies from local shops there - great ice cream too in the little town!

Casa Laura was a great base for exploring and we managed day trips to Lucca, Pisa and Florence - we drove to Florence and I'd booked a parking garage in advance, 2 mins from the Duomo. In addition there are loads of places to visit nearby and we also drove up to San Pellegrino in Alpe - slightly hairy in a Fiat 500 as the climb is phenomenal, but once you're there the views are amazing.

Casa Laura is one of the best equipped and cared for houses we've stayed in for a holiday. We loved our time there and would highly recommend it for a visit to the area.

Thanks to Yvonne and her husband for creating such a lovely place to stay, all the help and info you provided in advance and during our stay. We'd hope to return one day!

“Wonderful Villa,Stunning Views”

Four of us spent a week at Casa Laura and the villa was the best we've ever stayed in,with its outdoor eating area and good sized swimming pool it was great for chillaxing. Casa Laura is definitely for people who want to get away from it all and the views from the villa were amazing .A car is a must due to its location but that was what we found most appealing. There are plenty of places to visit near by so if you stay at Casa Laura read the guest book for ideas.
Will hopefully be returning again soon

“Still feeling sad that we had to leave - wonderful stay!”
Reviewed 17 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Wonderful in every way! A spectacular view from a perfect cottage. We never tired of just staring out at the lush landscape and mountainous backdrop. Our little girl loved the gorgeous garden as well as the pool. Yvonne and Delfo very welcoming and lovely to chat with, on hand should you need them. Plenty to see in the near vicinity and beyond. Lucca a particular favourite of ours. Restaurant in village well worth a visit, would recommend the ravioli which was outstanding. Local co-op the pick of the local shops, even the own brand very high quality. Great wine available for 4-5 euro, amazing prosecco for 7 euro! Book for a very special stay!
