Our recent visit to this historic wine farm was a welcome respite from the busy city of Cape Town. Approaching the outskirts of Durbanville, one comes upon the tree shaded entrance gate of Die Altydgedacht Wine Farm. Immediately you get the feel of history and Dutch settlement of the area in the late 1600s. The many farm buildings constructed of stone and stuccoed white speak to the living, operating farm business engaged by the Parker family. The cellar door room displays photos of the long line of owners of the farm. We ate lunch in the restaurant "Eat@Altydgedacht". The food was delicious, with generous portions. Nearby children played at the play area. Cattle grazed placidly in the field beyond.
