“A trip out of the city takes you back 300 Years”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 June 2014

Our recent visit to this historic wine farm was a welcome respite from the busy city of Cape Town. Approaching the outskirts of Durbanville, one comes upon the tree shaded entrance gate of Die Altydgedacht Wine Farm. Immediately you get the feel of history and Dutch settlement of the area in the late 1600s. The many farm buildings constructed of stone and stuccoed white speak to the living, operating farm business engaged by the Parker family. The cellar door room displays photos of the long line of owners of the farm. We ate lunch in the restaurant "Eat@Altydgedacht". The food was delicious, with generous portions. Nearby children played at the play area. Cattle grazed placidly in the field beyond.

“Lack of attention to detail”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 January 2014

Went with friends, on a power trip to Cape Town. Lovely venue, average but good food, good service. However, lunch is served from 12 noon, arrived at 13:00, toilets were already dirty, nappies all over the place, as the toilets only have small waste paper baskets, although play flacitities etc clearly show they cater for young families ( and there were many). By 16:00 it was in a worse filthy state, no clean up seems to have been done at any time. Owner was there, making sure that food and wine were served and patrons were well attended to, so it as mystery why rest rooms were not at all in her visor. Nope, prices are upmarket, venue is upmarket, such lack of attention to the rest rooms is nothing but an insult to the clientele, who definitely are used to better ablution facilities at their own homes.

“Perfect breakfast destination”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2013

Altydgedacht is my favourite breakfast run stop. The food is great. The wine is great. The service is great and the atmosphere is very laid back. Bring the kids and friends and make it a long morning. I love their cappuccino's and their French Toast is also a hit.

“All around greatness”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 September 2013

This is a great venue, with a deep and interesting history behind it.
It is rustic / classic venue, with good food and even better service.
Go in the summer, sit under the trees, drink their excellent Merlot and Pinotage wine.
Go for breakfast and have their very popular and unique French toast.
