“Expensive”

I thought this was very expensive, back home most of the heritage places are free. The archery was not worth paying for and I am glad we looked at it before we paid.

“Great fun for all ages.”
Reviewed 2 August 2013

I went with my own kids ages 20,18, and 15, and my niece aged 15 and two nephews ages 10 and 8,and my daughters friend age 15. we all loved the archery it was such good fun, and the staff were lovely. We had a laugh and a lot of fun. Then we put on medieval costumes and took some pictures before we were told the story of Athenry town and the castle. It was really well done and a lot of fun, we also saw some of the torture equipment in the dungeon, which is not a real dungeon but a mock up- it's still well done and it was great fun. The staff are lovely friendly people and very knowledgable, they really know the story of the town. It's a lovely family day out and not hugely expensive it cost us €35 for the whole experience. I would go again I enjoyed it that much.

“Fun, informative, and very accommodating”
Reviewed 19 July 2013

My wife and I were traveling back to Dublin from Galway and wanted to stop somewhere to absorb some of Ireland's fascinating history. Athenry was suggested by the B&B owner in Galway and it did not disappoint. While we went about our tour of the village in a rather backward way (parked the car and walked around before arriving at the Heritage Center) we almost did not get to take advantage of the Center, as the sign in the door indicated that they were closed until 1pm because they were hosting school children for most of the day. We were pressed for time and thought "well, better luck next time." We wandered around back and came upon 2 women who worked there and were just finishing lunch. After chatting for a few minutes, one of the women (and forgive me, but I've forgotten her name) took pity on us and squeezed us in between children's tours. We received a very informative and fun tour of Anthenry's history. We were very thankful for her personal touch and were very happy to have learned so much. I didn't realize that chainmail and armor was so heavy! Kudos to her being very knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating!

The Heritage Center is well worth the time and if you have kids, so much the better!! This tour appeals to the big kid in all of us!

“Informative interesting and fun for all”
Reviewed 9 July 2013

The people who work at the heritage centre are incredibly well informed about athenry's history. Helen is superb with the children and imparted her vast knowledge with passion, making the visit a pleasure. There is a great selection of hand made medieval style clothing for all to dress up in and really get into what life would have been like in athenry. The archery is fun and once again the patience and kindness shown by Helen made this activity top drawer. To complete our visit mary's creative face and body painting delighted the children. A must see for all visiting the Galway area. Highly recommended
