We had been to Bolton Castle for a Bank Holiday weekend visit and were put off by the extortionate cost of the Castle tea room. Saw signs for this pub on the way to the Castle so called on the way back. Parking was difficult and we ended up 250 yards away in the village square. |Got to the pub and it was totally full inside and so we had to eat outside. Nice day, so this did not matter. It also shows how popular the pub was as it was totally full - with locals, visitors and walkers. Dogs were allowed to the pub. We ordered from the bar menu, reasonably priced and told to expect a 20 minute wait. In the end it was only 10 minutes. Food was very fresh and clearly was freshly cooked. Size of the meals was large and on large plates. Selection of real ales was extensive - especially if you like Theakstons! Overall, a very pleasant experience and for a pub meal, albeit from a captive audience (the only pub in the village!), I would highly recommend.
