The hotel has good ambience for relaxing, good food and hospital staff. The staff are hospital people and always willing to help. Bernard at the reception is a great person. The ozone kids club is great

I have stayed at the Whitesands twice and I keep going back due to their friendly service, nice rooms and a general feeling of home away from home. However, on my last visit, I made reservations for a room and upon arriving in the evening, there was NO reservation which I found very distressful. I had luckily arrived with my best friend so they were kind enough to share their room with me. How do you "misplace" a booking???

The next day, I was promised a room near the quiet pool. However, it was so old and upon complaining I was upgraded to the Palm room that I had intially shared with my best friend. Before the day ended I was alerted that I have to pay the Palm room charges. So how again is that an upgrade????

Very disappointing experience Whitesands, if you decide to upgrade someone then do not charge them extra!!!

We spent 3 days at the hotel , I raved to my wife and kids about the hotel which I visted as a young boy
Once we arrived ; it was dissapointement after another. The hotel management have allowed this establishment to go down the drain
The staff are not motivated to serve you, it repeadtly tool over 30 min to get served at the pool with the slide.
Management don't put emphasis on customer service first; for example you need to pay 500 shillings for food to be delivered to your room!
Although the hotel has been renovated our room had a number of issues, for exmple our balcony door did not lock. Or stayed locked when attempted to lock it and security is a serious issue in kenya
Drinks are priced higher than other hotels and the sea side room is not worth the additional costs
My advise is see all the different rooms before taking one.. you will see there is not much of a difference
Finally, I woukd advise too look at other hotels in the area which offer the same services but at a cheaper rate
If I ran this hotel I would first fire all the management; its clear they have been around too long and are out of date. I would also implement quality checks in order to meet the brand promsie to the customer

This is definitely one place i would love to visit again. The whole experience was awesome from airport transfer, the shuttle was comfortable,on arrival a chilled glass of fruit juice and a warm towel. The bell boy very courteous, the dinner was scrumptious ,breakfast amazing. At meal times there was variety to choose from.
Then my favorite part the jet ski experience, that was my first time on a jet ski and i loved every thrilling minute of that experience.
The sea side rooms were clean ,spacious ,comfortable with a very great view of the ocean was great and well equipped. The hotel grounds were well maintained.
They have great staff and customer service is excellent.
This is a place that is most definitely worth staying at.

Room Tip: Sea Side ,ocean fronts rooms are the best.

Overall, we really liked Whitesands and would return if we go to Mombasa again. We stayed for one week in February with our three year old son. The first three or four days they did not have the pool slide working which bothered us since we chose the location for the pools. We were still able to use the other two pools (not the quiet pool since we had a kid). I enjoyed the massage but felt the facial lacked the time it should have been given. The pool, restaurant, reception and kid zone staff all referred to us by name and we were always greeted by any staff member walking by. They could work on the entertainment staff poolside by offering more family friendly games but that wasn't such a big deal. We did not like our first room since there was no bathtub and construction so they upgraded us to a sea-view room. The first room was a beautiful room, but we wanted a tub. Turns out our kid loves showers anyway so we could have stayed in the first room but the second had a pull out couch for our toddler which was better than the crib since he could climb out and possibly fall. The food was enjoyable but we are glad we paid for all-inclusive since it wasn't fantastic and would have been upset paying each time for decent food. The things I have pointed out are not meant to deter people but for them to be aware of shortcomings, which are few.

Room Tip: If you want quiet, stay away from the two largest pools, which are not that loud anyway. Both rooms...

We stayed for three nights and didn't want to leave. The reservation process was smooth and great customer service. They picked us up and the driver gave us warm towels to refresh ourselves and chilled bottled water after we settled in the shuttle. The check-in process was fairly quick and they allowed us to check in a little early. Our room was spacious and comfortable with lots of storage space. It was equipped with modern amenities. The bed is very comfortable and I loved the mosquito net that closes around the whole bed like a curtain. Our room was in the ocean front building.
The resort itself is beautiful with lots of places to relax at. It wasn't very busy during the time we were there.
We have a toddler and there are a lot of kid friendly areas. The Ozone Kids area indoors has great toys, the pool near the kids playground is also kid friendly.
The food was great at breakfast and dinner. Lots of options and everything was tasty. The afternoon tea time was a nice touch, we really enjoyed the Kenyan teas and coffee. Service on drinks was sometimes slow, but when you don't really have anywhere to be, it's not a deal breaker.
The beach was fairly clean, you can tell they work hard to keep it clean when you take a walk and see all the seaweed at the hotels nearby. The vendors on the beach are annoying, but will leave you alone when you ask them to.
I got a head massage and facial on my last day and it was totally blissful. Love the hammocks in the spa area.
On the whole, it was wonderful to come back after 18 years and brought back great memories of holidays I've had in Mombasa as a child.

My family traveled to Mombasa to visit relatives and enjoy a nice vacation. We chose the White Sands based on reviews and the proximity to our family. It was a great choice for our 12-night stay.

The hotel and grounds are lovely. The staff treated us wonderfully. Wamboi in reception worked tirelessly to track down a bag that was lost by the airline. When it finally arrived at the airport, she called us immediately even though it was her day off from work. Jeffrey in the dining area remembered our preferred drinks and seating preferences and always made sure we were comfortable.

The housekeepers, bartenders, pool attendants and other staff were wonderful. For example, we asked for extra bottled water in our room on the first night of our stay and everyday after that the service was repeated.

Due to a mix-up with our travel agent, the first set of rooms we received did not meet our needs. The entire staff worked diligently to find us alternative accomadation and the situation was quickly resolved even though the staff had to work around a large wedding on-site.

We chose the meal plan for breakfast and dinner. The breakfast was solid and met our western needs. The dinner menu rotated every night and gave us the opportunity to sample many different foods. The food was very good and there was always a mix of salad, indian dishes, african staples, grilled meats, and desserts. There are other good dining options up and down the beach.

The pools are tremendous and the website does not do them justice.

A few tips:

-A small tip of 100 Kenyan Shillings (about $1.20 US) goes a long, long way here. Please, tip the staff!

-The vendors along the beach can begin to wear you out. It is best to tell them "not today" or "maybe another time" instead of "no." This is cultural. If you do decide to engage with the vendors, for example a camel ride, the price you should negotiate is about 1/10th of what they offer. For exmaple, a camel ride might be offered for $4,000 shillings. You should pay $400. This is still more than the locals will pay.

-Buccaneer diving is still in operation, but you need to contact them in advance.
