Not for English and under 60 years old, Avoid

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 Mar 2019
Travellers Beach Hotel & Club
Malindi Road, Bamburi, Mombasa 80101, Kenya

I really did not like this hotel.
Its big and lots of swimming pools and good for sun bathing, but that’s it,

The staff were very rude and unhelpful and not friendly and don’t listen to you,

The food was boring and no choice and the same every day, and tasteless
And very hard to order a drink in the restaurant.

The guests when I was there where all over 60 years old and no English guests
Everybody looked sad and unhappy,

Nothing happens at night, no entrainment, no shows. So after dinner, it was off to bed, and the bars were always empty, no guests drinking and having fun,

Ive stayed at lots of hotels, but this was so different and so bad, Never again,

I've been visiting Travellers Club for many years. Yes, some of the rooms may be a little dated, but not all. Having said this, the rooms are huge, much larger than the majority of rooms I've stayed in around the world. They're spotlessly cleaned everyday, and the room staff work tirelessly to satisfy your every need.
NOW what makes this hotel really special is the management and staff. The management get to know their clients, always coming around each day to ensure everything is up to standard, and even have the time to stop and have a chat during their busy day. The staff are fantastic, and cannot do enough for you, and always going that extra mile to ensure your visit is a memorable one.
This has become our second home, just a shame that more British don't come to Kenya. The country and people are fabulous. Don't let media news put you off and miss the wonderful experience of visiting this beautiful country. The people, the place, the safaris etc. are amazing. Come on UK, let's start to see an increase on us visiting Kenya, and not just leave it to the other European countries.
Last, but not least, thanks again to Travellers for our stay over this last month. Special thanks to Freddie, Bridget, Mary, Benson, Caroline,Faith and Patrick and all the staff which I haven't individually named.

Room tip: Higher floors close to the beach give the best view of the beach and sea

I visited this hotel and here is my experience -

Positive - Location is perfect , peaceful part of town , good indian food, room sizes are decent.
Conference facilities ok , but seems whole hotel is dedicated to meetings and conference or crew members.

Negative experience-
Despite of telephonically confirmation of conference participants accommodation all were told just the day before of unavailability of rooms and offered an alternate that was totally un comparable
I was offered three room changes - first 275did not have internet coverage, no Wi Fi signal, just opposite a party venue with loud sound
And no fridge , second room 343 AC not worked and failed to cool room till late night
Cashier tried to charge me double the amount and reception provided wrong info to all conference people about meals , meals venue changed by whims
GM tried to manage situation but just reiterated staff version with no action taken against managers or staff.
Overall good for conferences with very low expectations and definitely not for high level meetings

Dear Mr. Alankar,

We note your reviews of our property on TripAdvisor and would like to take them as opportunities to improve on our service delivery.

Whilst we empathize with you on the experience you had during your stay with us which by your admission falls below your expectation, we acknowledge that indeed there were systemic issues that led to this overall experience. As evidenced in your reviews, led by our General Manager, efforts were made to make your stay comfortable; including but not limited to changing your room to an upgraded better one, fixing the AC that had malfunctioned later on that evening as well as returning the fridge that had been removed from the room for maintenance reasons. As you may well recall, all these were made to rectify the situation.

On unavailability of guest rooms for your conference, note that communication was made to your convener (EAC) to this effect. We were requested to go out of our way to source for a facility for the delegates’ accommodation within specific guidelines. To this, we did and communicated back to the secretariat and it was ok with the arrangement. All willing delegates were then re-routed through EAC. There was no obligation from Travellers Beach Hotel on this item as the initial RFQ was specific on Conference facility per se. In your telephone communication, you were advised to either source for your own accommodation elsewhere or be directed to the alternative facility, to which you agreed to the latter for a night as we had promised to have your room the following day.

As communicated in our earlier email to you, Travellers Beach Hotel is an ongoing concern and coexists with other similar facilities. As such, we have limited interference with the operations of our neighbors’ businesses aside from the understanding that noise levels should be minimized after 1100Hrs to enable our own guests have a peaceful pleasant night as well as internal mechanism of moving guests to other rooms upon request.

As has been the case with other delegations, meetings and conference, we strive to make all our guests comfortable. We will continue doing so with an improved gusto and more especially focusing on the areas you have highlighted. We look forward to yet another opportunity that you will stay with us to experience these improvements.

Yours Faithfully In-Service

I visited the hotel for two nights since the hotel next door (whitesands) was fully booked.
The rooms are really dated, so are the facilities, from the breakfast and dining area to the reception. The main reception and hallways all packed with corporate event customers which seems to be their main income stream.
This hotel is not worth visiting for a family holiday unless you’re getting a bargain price. I visited this hotel after about twenty years and am afraid will not be visiting for another twenty.

But before you make this position a finality, allow us to mention that we have the Club side of the property that is ideal for holiday makers. However, to be able to access this, you ought to request to be accommodated in this area (Which will be done free of charge subject to room availability) or by default when you book under All Inclusive meal plan. We are sure this will given you a 360 degree re-evaluation of our property.

I stayed in the hotel for 2 days in February 2019 for the first time and I enjoyed it from the room, food, friendliness of staff and the general ambience. The hotel is easily accessible and the facilities were good.
