Description: Our Imani Dhow is a so-called Zanzibar Jahazi that was built over 45 years ago. In the past it weighed about 90 tons and on its way between Zanzibar, Dar-es-Saalam, Tanja and Mombasa it transported diverse products like cotton or corn and many more. Under the skilled hands of her former Bajuni Crew of 16 sailors it became a just beautiful sailing ship. Imani means "trust" and our dhow paid this trust back during her active years and survived all storms and dangers. Today the Imani Dhow is home to our great kitchen crew who will enthuse you with culinary highlights. Here you will enjoy award-winning à la carte fish dishes, fine seafood in diverse variations and also international cuisine. A warm welcome aboard!

The Imani Dhow is a small intimate restaurant which serves excellent dinners, offering a wide à la carte menu choice and exceptional service.

Whether you are staying at the Severin Sea Lodge, or you want to go to the IMANI DHOW for an exclusive dinner, you will find a romantic ambiance in this Zanzibari dhow that was built over 40years ago and has now been converted to a “Coastal style Fine Dining Restaurant “ that offers excellent value and where the extensive menu and quality of food could compete with many of the top restaurants of Kenya. As we were residents at the SEVERIN, we ate here daily. One day we ordered Seafood brochette with skewers of Prawns and Fish grilled with herb butter and served with vegetables. The next day we chose the Seafood Platter for two and thoroughly enjoyed the Grilled Lobster, Grilled Prawns, Grilled Fish and Calamari all glazed in herb butter and served with vegetables. This Platter was exquisite and we asked Chef Cristina Ngina if we could have it again the next day but cooked differently. To our amazement, the next day we got Lobster meat sauteed with Garlic ,chilies and tomato puree and served in the shell accompanied by Breaded Crab Claws and prawns cooked in an exotic Swahili style with coconut milk.

“The Seafood Platter for 2 persons costs Shs. 6,000= and we got a 20% discount as we were booked on Half board basis at the SEVERIN. We therefore decided to avoid all night-timing traveling and cancelled our booking at the TAMARIND DHOW for the next day, where we would have paid Shs.5,220 p.p for a set menu and cruise, sitting amongst a crowd of up-to 70 pax. We had an excellent intimate evening in the relaxed environment of the IMANI and spent Shs,4,800 only instead of Shs.10,440=, for two persons that it would have cost at the Tamarind.

Although a regular visitor to KENYA and in particular the Mombasa coast, this was the first occasion for us to eat at the IMANI DHOW restaurant. Few visitors to Kenya appreciate the quality of the hotels and restaurants available and in particular the level of service provided. Having travelled extensively around the World I can honestly say that this restaurant is easily one of the best in Kenya and would compete with many of the excellent restaurants that we have eaten in in other countries. The menu is extensive and excellent value and the service is first class putting any cruise ship to shame. After our first visit we were so impressed we took some friends with us a few days later and they were equally impressed. For anyone staying in the Banburi Beach area a visit to this restaurant at the Severin Sea Lodge hotel is a must.

I would happily recommend this restaurant to anyone. I have never paid the bill there myself, so I cannot comment on the value, but the service and surroundings are lovely and the food is very good indeed. I particularly enjoyed the lobster.
