The boathouse is a credit to its owner, it has great character, is spotless and has everything you need. We will be booking again later this year.

“Charming Cottage with breathtaking views”
Reviewed 6 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

Even though we only stayed for the long weekend it has been our 2nd time to the boat house. Its original features, quiet surroundings and ideal situated spot by the sea make this cottage the ideal haven for a family vaccation away from the hussle and buzzle of every day life. The Boat house is well equipt with every day utensils so its up to the guests if they prefer to cater themselves or dine out in the nearby cafe on the caravan park or the bistro in the club house of the golf course. As usual the place was very clean, beds comfi and even though the weather wasn't ideal it was great to chill out in front of the lid fire in the living room or sitting at the terrace window enjoying the view over the bay.Even though the furniture is slightly dated it adds to the cottage charm and suits the original features of the boat house. Highly recommended especially if you want your children to get back to basics without the use of wifi, play consoles etc as the outside area is spacious where they can play football, badminton or when the tide is out play on the beach and run wild. Can't wait to come back again in the near future.

“Well appointed open plan character filled cottage, sea lapping outside”

The Boat house has a beautiful location on this small bay and has everything you need inside. We sat in the cosy sunny bay window area watching the sea shimmer, birds dive, boats bob and tides turn. We were impressed with the house, the kitchen is very well equipped, the heating is warm and the high ceilings and open plan sitting room really have a nice feel to them. Immediately outside the house the grassy area beside the bay is great for picnics, strolling around the bay at low tide very pleasant. The beach just outside the house has seaweed etc. so not that attractive for swimming, but a short walk around the bay are more sandy stretches. Maybe for older folks the owners might like to consider some steps down to the beach/bay in the future. In the area you are spoilt for choice on a good day, there is a little beach through a hole in the hedge a few hundred yards along the road to the lighthouse on your right, then stunning beach cove at Shrove beside the lighthouse. We walked up the Inishowen head walk one evening which was very nice, dramatic views down the cliffs to the sea. We loop around past Shrove bay up onto the high road then back to Greencastle is wonderful, great views out to Binevenagh, over Magilligan point and a few thatched cottages remaining. Kinnagoe Bay - there is a route over the mountains close to Greencastle - sign posted from the upper road, is stunning, has a real wild feel to it. Further afield Derry's walls tour was really enjoyable, as is a day trip over the ferry and along the north coast. The Greencastle to Moville coastal walk also very nice. Michael John's pub is walkable from the cottage, right along the road outside the cottage then left up the hill road, and has great views. Just take care walking - as always in Donegal roads can be narrow and some drivers think they are competing in rallies and can switch sides of the road, so step into the verge. There are two pubs in Greencastle town, a good fish and chip in between that does a few healthier options - like wraps and a more expensive seafood bar. Rosatos and Big ben's in Moville both did very good food. You can also buy some fresh fish in the basic fishermen's shop on the left out of Greencastle. Donegal itself if you have never been there is a wonderful county, laid back, a little wild west feel, stunning scenery, four seasons in each day, fuchsia hedges, smell of turf, colourful houses - although a little blighted by uncontrolled development - but it a strange way the higelty pigetly feel of housing adds to the slightly chaotic charm of the place. Back to the cottage - it really was a great find, we will be back.

Liked best: Watching the view out over the sea from the cosy bay windows
Liked least: Not a fault of the cottage - walking along road outside a bit risky with cars

“A beautiful, beautiful place! Ireland at its best!”
Reviewed 22 July 2013 for a stay in July 2013

The Boathouse was homey and very nice. The conveniences were great, and the location to the North and the rest of Donegal was perfect for day trips. The actual views from the Boathouse were amazing! Sat out every morning with coffee and just absorbed the beauty and tranquility of the surroundings. Each evening walked the low tide all around the Islands! Really delightful! No rain, perfect 10 days of weather! Lovely people in Greencastle and Moville. Carey's is great for fish and chips and Big Bens and Rosarios in Moville were great! The Coffee Cup in Buncrana was a delight too!

A secluded, quiet and well kept waterfront property.

We were looking for a comfortable base for our stay on inishowen.

The property owners were most helpful at every turn, as were the neighbors.
