My partner and I just spent 10 nights in the Rustic cabin, and I must admit...it was one of the most relaxing holidays that we have ever had. Reading, eating, drinking, watching movies and sleeping, in the most tranquil setting. The views are simply stunning, and it was such a joy sitting outside watching our little dog enjoy herself as much as we did. We drove in most days to Moville to restock supplies (5 minutes drive) and ate outside Rosatos and The Market Place...great food. We also drove down twice to Caroline's in the Greencastle Golf Club and the food was fab and the staff, friendly and efficient. We barbecued on other nights, and the cabin has everything that you could possibly need to self-cater. We really enjoyed our chats with Michael, the owner, and his wife, who showed us around their beautiful B&B, which needs to be seen to be appreciated. Much more superior than any that I have seen before (would also highly recommend this). We visited Buncrana and Malin Head, which is not to be missed. My daughter and her partner came for the weekend and didn't want to leave. Neither did I! Thank you Michael for a wonderful and much needed rehabilitation. We all had a blast! The cabin is situated on a hillside with spectacular views. It is very clean, modern an all you'll need. Michael and Sheilagh were very hospitable and on hand if needed, otherwise they let you get on with it which we did.
The views are something else. Sitting in a hot tub at 40° looking along the Foyle/North Atlantic coast was amazing. Great early morning walks with Buster the dog too.
Amenities: Magilligan/Greencastle shuttle ferry £17/€20 open ticket return (20 mins journey). From log cabin, Jack's Shop (1 mile) sits beside Cavanaghs Pub and garage, or Sean TI's/Shanties to the locals. Does a great pint. Drive to Shroove (approx 2 or 3 mile) and you'll stumble on a small secluded beach. Moville town (2.5 mile) plenty of shops and places to eat-in/takeaway.
Greencastle golf club great food and keenly priced (2 mile). Casuals but no football tops. Again, smashing views from restaurant.
Can't recommend this place highly enough, it must be seen. Great family break and pet friendly. We hit the jackpot as far as the weather goes but either way I would revisit without hesitation.
Firstly I would like to point out a few inaccuracies in the information on this trip advisor page.
Photo number 18 shows a large living room with sofas and armchairs, this is actually a photo of the B&B next door & is not part of the ‘log cabin’
The cabin has a main living/ kitchen area, to access the bedroom/ bathroom you have to go out side, this can get tiresome when the weather is cold & wet!!
The weather was quite bad when we were there & the noise of the wind & rain battering the roof kept me awake most of the night.
Also, the amenities listed on this trip advisor page is also inaccurate, there is no sauna, hot tub, gym or boat included!
A dishwasher instead of washing machine would have been preferable as some of the crockery supplied were not cleaned properly.
We found a large hole in one of the bathroom towels, and on 2 mornings we had no running
water until about 9am.
The fusty smell of both bedroom & living room was also very off putting.
This cabin does have 2 toilets one of which is an outdoor WC which we never used.
On the plus side the cabin was warm & hot water instantaneous. The wood burner also helped create cosy feel. WiFi was easily accessed.
This accommodation would suit someone who is used to staying in caravans, over all the cost per night is very overpriced, considering you can get a large double room with sea view in the local B&Bs for €75-€85.. this rustic log cabin works out €125 a night!
The kids enjoyed the novelty of staying here, but it was a bit too ‘rustic’ for our taste.
Two good for words you just have to go and see for yourself, the host will do anything to help. Go and stay go back to a time where you simply relax eat, sleep, walk ride, drink and possibly a little two much drink with the local community who are more than wiling to chat over a we dram
Just back today from this cabin on the hill. Not one negative thing do I have to say. I came here with my partner and my daughter Danielle who is autistic and it was everything and more than we could have hoped for. My daughter could walk about for hours and be totally safe and if you bring your dog or small children the same thing applies, complete safety. The views are to die for and the locals in the village are very friendly, it felt like we were part of the community. The owners Michael and Sheila are brilliant and very down to earth, we didn't have any problems during our stay so only met them on arrival and when we left but could instantly sense they were lovely people and took time to chat away to danielle, that means a lot. Thanks you to you both and we will return soon.
Excellent location and a cosy cabin with all the facilities you need. Owners are friendly and welcoming. We will be back.
