I & my family dined here on Fri 22nd. A late spur of the moment lunch the waitresses could not have been more helpful or friendly if they tried. The meals all came out together in good time, as a chef my self I can tell u its not as easy as it sounds. Over all we realy enjoyed our day & can't heap praise enough.

We have just come back from a stay in Dunmore East which is a lovely place to visit and we go quite often. We stayed nearby to The Strand and decided to have our sunday lunch there - we chose to sit outside as the weather was great and had a look on the menu. Firstly there is virtually no choice for vegetarians - despite an advertisement in a local brochure saying vegetarian options available. Because my two teenage daughters are vegetarian we decided to ask if they could cook and egg and serve it with fries but we were told no, they could only do what was on the menu - In all my time of eating out I have never been told that a restaurant could not cook an egg. So, in the end we ordered soup and a brown bread roll for the girls and we had lasagne. After about 15 minutes the lasagne came out for me and my partner but the soup took another 10 minutes to come out - our food had almost gone cold - and I had ordered fries for my 2 year old and these took an age to come out - really difficult when youve got a little one - I would have prefered the children's food to have come out first. The girls were very hungary and the soup looked good but to my horror, when they bit into the bread they had to remove it from their mouths. I asked to try it and I have to say it was absolutely disgusting. I never like to leave bad reviews and in fact never have but the bread was vile - at first I though it must have been some sort of speciality bread but the taste was very pungent of fish (obviously no good for my vegetarian girls who nearly threw up). There was something very wrong with that bread - it must have been handled by the person cooking the fish or had fish placed ontop - I normally love fish but it was like a gone off fish taste - really strong. I would have complained at the time but my 2 year old was running off and I had to dash off - but later that night my daughter felt ill and I think perhaps this was due to the contaminated bread. It was such a shame as we had really been looking forward to our meal - our lasagne was fine but cold when we finally ate it - it was expensive for the amount on the plate - only a small bowl of it (not a main course amount). But to be honest we paid 50 euros for not a lot and the episode with the bread had put us off the place for life - they advertise an award won in 2002 but lets face it that was over 10 years ago now and that chef has probably moved on - pity as perhaps our meal that day would have been better. Oh, and to top it off there was a local woman who had a right go at my partner the day before for playing with a puppy, muttering 'tourists' under her breath as she walked away. Its the tourists that make the economy!

I organised a 60th birthday celebration last Easter Monday in the Strand Inn, Dunmore East, for a group of 25 people. We were very impressed with the quality of the fresh fish dishes that we were served and the price was reasonable. Service was friendly and attentive. Thanks to Louise & her staff. Overnight accommodation was excellent.
