We stayed at El Amparo for three nights and wish that we had booked a longer visit! Our hosts were incredibly welcoming and helpful, and were able to suggest lots of great walks, fun activities and delicious local restaurants during our stay. The hotel itself is situated in a breathtaking location. Rooms are extremely comfortable and well proportioned- loved the showers! Spent many happy hours chilling by the pool- what a serene and peaceful place, perfect for winding down after a stressful few months. Highly recommended! We will definitely be returning soon.

A one night family stay to kick off our holiday in this beautifully situated hotel. Fabulous views, spacious and clean rooms and lovely outside areas. Jeff was charming and most accommodating regarding our disrupted travel plans. We had a lovely meal in the evening and my family have badgered me daily for the Moroccan chicken recipe! We would have no hesitation in returning or recommending.

We stayed at El Amparo for a week to celebrate my partner's father's 70th birthday. We took our road bikes as a way to explore and it was so beautiful and Jeff made us so welcome that we could easily have stayed forever. Jeff suggested cycling routes for us and with his local knowledge and the fantastic scenery, it couldn't have been better. We did a couple of longish days of 70+ miles, climbing up and then dropping down towards the coast. The property is at 830m above sea level and we climbed up to 1300m and then dropped right down to the coast, down fantastic sweeping descents that meant you barely needed the brakes, unless you stopped to look at the view, which was better done from a stationary position rather than flying over the edge... We knew it was going to be a nice area but didn't realise we'd get such good climbs and descents in as well, with such variety, and past such turquoise lakes... There are plenty of hills of varying steepness and lengths - the longest was 26ish miles from the coast, and there were others of 1, 2, 4 etc. miles. i.e. Whatever length of ascent you fancied doing, there is a route to do it. We only did 5 rides over the week but would do each of them again, and there were whole swathes of the region that we didn't even get to.

We kept our bikes and bike boxes in the locked cortijo so they were secure for the full week, although even if we'd left them outside the area is so peaceful that I can't imagine anything would happen to them.

On top of the varied and beautiful cycling, through olive groves, up hills, looking at poppy fields, round lakes, El Amparo is a fantastic place to stay and one that we would easily stay at again. Jeff would make us a smoked salmon baguette for our journey and he cooked delicious dinners, particularly the Moroccan chicken dish and the asparagus soup made with asparagus from the farm next door. We could stroll after dinner to look over to the snowy Sierra Nevada, and sit on any side of the property and look at stunning views. We could even go for a swim or into the hot tub to stretch out after a day's ride.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend El Amparo for road cyclists or just for a relaxing holiday. There is so much to do and to look at (and to eat) in the surrounding area, and Jeff is such an impeccable host, that it would be difficult to go anywhere else in Spain!

This is far from my first visit to El Amparo. I keep coming back, and find it a wonderful place to work a little, rest a little, and relax a lot. I’ve just returned from a refreshing five day break and, as always, was welcomed by Jeff and Sally like an old friend. I’m a solo visitor, and get great pleasure from a spotless, spacious and comfortable room, with a gorgeous shower and a fridge for cool drinks. There’s heating or air-conditioning throughout, and a collection of books, DVDs and games for guests’ use. The swimming pool has beautiful views – in fact, there isn’t any part of El Amparo that doesn’t have a lovely, distant view. You can listen to the smaller birds’ songs and, if you’re lucky, spot eagles soaring above. The coffee is delicious, the food is great - I love the Moroccan chicken dish Jeff makes – and local food is used wherever possible. In fact, Friday’s soup was made from asparagus handed over the fence from the farm next door!

Our family of 4 stayed here, mainly so we could visit Granada. It proved a peaceful and beautiful location with excellent rooms and facilities, made all the more special by our wonderful host, Jeff. We loved it so much, we have booked a return trip!

What can I say to make you go to El Amparo? I want to go back and have been telling everyone else I know they should go. If you want a totally relaxing break – this is the place for you. The property, first off, is pristine and so tastefully decorated right down to the cutlery and room key keyrings! It is welcoming and homely and completely comfortable in every way. Jeff is the perfect host – we were completely relaxed and at our ease within seconds of arrival which was quite a feat after having spent the day driving for the first time on Spanish roads! He is very helpful with recommendations for the area and is in tune with what his guests want - we didn’t even know ourselves that we wanted a nice cold drink brought to us in the outdoor hottub but when it arrived it seemed we did!! Activities included walks and cycles in the area on the bikes provided. There is a selection of routes to choose from with detailed directions provided. A highlight was a morning spent in the nearby outdoor springs, watching squirrels chase eachother in the trees overhead before returning for the delicious breakfast. Dinners provided were varied and excellent. Really unwound watching movies, reading and playing backgammon and scrabble. Oh another highlight is the house red! Would definitely return.

I stayed at this BnB with my wife and daughter. The location is rural, quiet and relaxing. The BnB itself is amazing, especially the architecture, and the level of restoration and rebuilding that Jeff went through to see it completed is commendable. The tiles have a story unto themselves but I’ll leave that to Jeff to explain.

The rooms were spacious, tasteful and clean. The bathrooms equally so. The service throughout our stay was excellent. Finding the location wasn’t the easiest, but once there it’s worth the trip.

It is a luxury BnB, and the service and quality of the location justify the cost.
