We wanted to stay in an authentic bavarian lodging, whilst being close to legoland, krumbach was great as it's an authentic small german village that is central to the black forest area. At Diem Zum Engal, the owners were very friendly with large breakfast and german sized dinners a true german bar very authentic. Rooms were large with comfortable beds and double glazed windows, a bonus being english channels via satalite on the TV.

Room Tip: Take a room away from the main pub as they are larger.

Me and my wife have been here before in 2003 on our way to Austria. Then, we had a wonderful experience having our dinner: the best schnitzel ever! This time we used it as a stop to Italy. The hotel had expanded in the mean time, with a brand new building were we got our room nr. 81. The room was nice, though quite warm at night. Good beds and shower. A very well stocked minibar at low rates (e.g. half a liter beer for 2 euro!). We were on the streetside, which is a bit noisy, so we had to keep the windows closed. With no airco, that becomes a little warm. On the top floor there is a nice spa, but we didn't use it. The rate of the room is quite high with about 100 euro's including breakfast.
Hospitality is great, the Diem family runs the place, now the 8th generation! There is a nice youtube information video on the internet. Dinner was nice but basic, with lots of pork and veal. The meat originates from there own slaughterhouse. No schnitzels this time ... You can also buy the meat in their own butcher's shop. Breakfast was OK but also basic.
The village of Krumbach is nothing special really. On the contrary, in 10 years time it has become a little deteriorated with abandoned houses and noisy youth in speeding cars.
But à fine overnight staying overall.

Room Tip: Take a room away from the street.

We stay one night travelling from North to Italy for skiing. We arrived at the hotel booked online with just some photos in mind and we've been pleased to find a nice hotel, typical and warmed welcome by the host. They served us a meal at 22h15pm, which is uncommon (especially in France....). We booked a flat and it was good.
The breakfast could have been a bit more rich, but overall everything was OK.

We booked this hotel for our trip to nearby Legoland (distance 20km to the north). The Hotel has two or three separate buildings - one is the old hotel with the reception and dining rooms, another seems to be across the carpark. We stayed in the most recent addition accross the street which was constructed just 2 years ago. This contains about 8 very modern and beautifully decorated rooms which overlook the beergarden and have views of the town. The bathrooms are clean and elegant, with walk in shower. The bed was confortable, and fold out beds were supplied for our kids. There was a kitchen with fridge, cooking facilities and sink as well for self-catering which we didn't use as Krumbach has lovely restaurants and we ate mostly in the beergarden which has some playthings for the kids. The staff, especially the owner, were extremely friendly to all the guests, who seemed to come from far and wide. The breakfast buffet was quality German fare, including cold cuts from the Hotel's own deli next door. Parking is limited and if you arrive later in the evening you may have to park on the street, and get up at 9am to move the car or set the parking display on your vehicle. The only issue we had really was the heat - it was about 30C - and our room was not airconditioned. We opened the windows but found the noise from the beergarden or the annoying loud music from the parade of little boy-racers who seem to be tolerated in the town, which is a shame as otherwise Krumbach is faultless.

We booked the place as it is close to Legoland (half an hour nice drive). As we arrived in pouring rain Mr. Karl Diem ran out with an umbrella. That was very descriptive of his and his families hospitality during all our stay. The hotel is lovely, old fashion German/Schwabich. Across the street they have turned an old house into modern hotel apartments with Sauna on the top floor with great view overlooking Krumback. At their hotel restaurant they served great quality food, I recommend the Beef tartar, made from beef from their own butcher shop next door. I would love to visit again and I recommend Gasthof Diem highly.
