Owner description: The Episcopal Museum of Vic (MEV), founded in 1891, houses a magnificent collection of medieval art with paintings and sculpture from the Catalan Romanesque and Gothic periods. The collections of precious metals, textiles, wrought ironwork, glass and ceramics offer a comprehensive journey through the history of liturgical and decorative art in Catalonia. This highly prized collection, including over 29,000 pieces, is exhibited in a new building on a site adjoining the cathedral, equipped with state-of-the-art exhibition facilities. Due to the exceptional interest of the museum's collections, in 2001 the museum was declared a museum of national interest by the Government of Catalonia.

“Quite stunning!”
Reviewed 25 October 2013

If you like Romanesque and medieval art, which admittedly isn't everyone's cup of tea, then I suspect that there is no better place to go than this. It was beautifully displayed, beautifully lit and some truly fabulous works. There are a number of amusing devils, sleeping soldiers etc to perhaps keep children amused too. The building itself was beautiful - very modern but sitting beautifully alongside a thousand year old tower and an 18th century cathedral. Well done to all involved.

“Suberb museum”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

Surprisingly extensive collection of mostly medieval and Romanesque art salvaged from the churches and monasteries of the area. Some of the art work seems startlingly modern.

“Don't miss”

A beautifully designed museum by the cathedral with an excellent collection of romanesque and medieval art excellently displayed. Perhaps the best collection of its kind in Catalunya. Definitely worth seeing if you have any interest at all in the history of the area.
