“Charming place”
Reviewed 19 May 2014 via mobile

Really nice place, totally recommendable. The views are priceless. The path to walk to the church is easy. Then, as the tradition says, you have to ring the bell of the church 13 times and ask for a wish. Simply unforgettable.

“Stunning”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

This was one of the most beautiful places I visited in Spain.
You get to walk out on thin stairs, overlooking the ocean. There is also a lot of history and legends related to this place. A magical outing!

“Still closed”
Reviewed 17 March 2014 via mobile

My son just visited this landmark this past week and said the walkway to the church is still closed. He said it was an amazing site and plans to come back sometime, hoping the repairs will be done by then. Another reviewer mentioned there is little infrastructure, so perhaps it is going to take awhile. Hopefully someone will post an update when it opens again.

“Amazing but pathway currently closed/under repair”
Reviewed 20 October 2013

We literally just came from Gaztelugatxe this morning. It was amazing! But unfortunately, we could only see it from a distance (right before the steps to the island) because they are beginning to do some construction on the path and blocked it off. The car path was closed way before the steps to the island, so we left our car by the first fence and walked even though it said we werent allowed to. After about 10 minutes, we passed another fence that we went through again and we were only deterred by a final fence right before the stairs. I could see why they are doing construction as a part of the pathway seemed to have eroded (see picture). It was dissapointing for sure but even though we did not get to climb the stairs the island was nice to see. Since we came early, all we heard was the sound of the waves hitting against the stone and the birds chirping. It was just really sucky going all the way there and not being able to go on the actual island.

Since there is no official website for this place, we had no idea it would have been closed and I just thought I would share my experience if anyone was planning to go there right now.

Additionally, as per the point made below about theft. There were parking areas for cars along the path to the island for viewing, and all we saw were broken pieces of glass and lots of spray painted walls. I assume it is from people breaking into cars/vandals and it would definitely be a good idea to bring all your valuables with you when you stop here.

“Beautiful place - but beware thieves operate in this area!”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

Beautiful place, wonderful views and lovely clean air. Unfortunately our experience of visiting this locatation was completely ruined - when we returned to our car (parked in the main car park, next to Eneperi restaurant) to find that it had been broken into and our bags were stolen from the boot. It was all too professionally done to believe that this hasn't happened many times before - it's just a shame there were no warning signs or that no one wrote about it. So, enjoy but beware thieves are about. Don't let them ruin your holiday, as they did ours.
