“Great place for a holiday”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

It's a bit in the middle of nowhere, but you can be in the centre of Bilbao within a quarter of an hour, a town that has everything on offer a toursit might be looking for: museums, shops, plenty of places for eating out, some nice parks, wide boulevards.
Hotel itself is well equipped. Nice big rooms; bathrooms a little retro, but fine; great breakfast; good (but a little pricey) restaurant for an evening meal; nice (and not too pricey) bar plus outside seating; friendly and helpful staff.
All in all a good base from which to visit the Basque country. Within an hour's drive you can get to San Sebastian (even better than Bilbao imho), Vitoria Gesteiz (older than Bilbao) and even the Rioja wine district. Toll roads are a bit of a downer, though.

We booked this hotel at the very last minute. It was a great find, and a much better option than the other Airport hotels in Bilbao.

The hotel is at the top of a hill; the rooms are spacious, and the food is good.

We played the 9-hole pitch and putt in the morning, which was fun. They have clubs and balls on site.

Perfect hotel if you are flying in/out of Bilbao and want to put €100 to better use than the Holiday Inn Express.

Taxis to/from hotel are 11-15€.

I was simply looking for a hotel stopover after landing at Bilbao airport. The hotel, about 8 minutes from the airport (and with no noise from the airport) is set in lovely grounds. Sorry I wasn't there when their pretty outdoor terrace was open. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room very nice with an up to date bathroom. An ample and varied breakfast buffet. I hope to stay there for a bit longer in future to truly enjoy the premises.

Room Tip: Sorry we weren't staying longer as our room had a small terrace and I would have enjoyed having...

Our second stay at the Palacio Urgoiti, and it will not be our last! For us, flying in and out of Bilbao from the US makes good sense... but the misery of early morning outbound or late night inbound flights is firmly neutralized thanks to the Palacio Urgoiti! Rooms are top notch, elegant in fact. And we have enjoyed the bistro food and wine... a perfect way to dine, done very, very well I should add, if an 8PM meal is not on your list of things to do! A clean, quiet, very attractive hotel... and if you wish to see Bilbao I would not hesitate to stay here even though it's a short drive away.

Now, to get the Palacia Urgoiti on my five star list..... perhaps the front desk staff should be fed a little "personality"... no need for a front desk staff to be as unfriendly as this one... they should smile, after all they work in a beautiful hotel! (...Or perhaps the front desk staff should take lessons from the bistro staff... they were quite friendly and efficient!)

Room Tip: We have never been able to book via the internet for some software reason, so we accomplished our bo...

My wife and I plus our two little dogs stayed here on a return trip from Spain to the UK as a stop over for the ferry from Bilbao to Portsmouth. We have never been to the area before and needed a dog friendly hotel so this was a case of "pot luck"...and lucky we were!

The hotel is small and lovely and in a wonderful setting up in the hills. The rooms were excellent and well appointed, the food was great and reasonably priced and the the staff were very helpful and friendly.

The place was certainly dog friendly...on arrival we discovered they had put in our room two (clean) dog beds and bowls of water which pleased our dogs no end...little touches like this are what can make a good hotel into a great hotel!

The staff all made a fuss of our dogs and they were allowed to sit in the bar terrace with us while we ate an excellent dinner overlooking the valley below.

From here to the ferry terminal in Bilbao was just a 25 minute drive so also very convenient. We will definitely be using this hotel again on our travels!

Room Tip: If you have dogs I would highly recommend asking for a ground floor room as they all have outside te...

Cordialmente

When you enter the hotel and after checking in there is no question if anybody of the staff will help you with the luggage we know enough. This must be a 4 star ranking hotel!! After some moments the staff member of the reception helped me. It is perhaps childish but all the lampshades are skewed, this means for us that no one of the staff has attention for its own hotel. The room(205) must be a superior one with terrace. We don't find this a superior room. The view is to the golf course and to the terrace with parasols. You can see that everything needs a makeover with paint outside and the interior is old fashioned. Bathroom is classic with enough space, the shower into the bath. The bistro and restaurant is in the evening in the same area, in the morning this is the breakfast area. We found it too much a canteen and the menu card is very simple. Breakfast is oké but the music is not to become you very happy and so is the decoration of the room and tables. It is a beautiful area with large windows so a good interior specialist or someone of the staff with the feeling for it can make a nice area of this room. Staff of the golf course is friendly but the maintenance of the paths and the green is here also necessary. The business centre is under the stairs in a hidden corner. There are so many rooms why there?? It can be a beautiful hotel but it needs more attention of the staff and the pictures of the brochure is not reality.

Room Tip: There are better hotels in my opinion in the area (Bilbao) and when you stay there ask a room at the...
