I was travelling with a group of colleagues from work. A few of us had heard about the cider they make here in San Sebastian and that you could go to a cider house for dinner. It turned out that this was one of the local attractions and "everyone" included the cab driver knew about the place.
It is a bit outside town (10-15 mins in taxi??) but well worth the drive.
The place is beautiful on the outside and with the perfect “rural farmhouse” look on the inside. Solid wooden tables with benches instead of chairs. Sawdust on the floor to keep us from slipping on cider.
We had 2 types of bacalhau and a wonderful piece of ribeye large as a barn door. You get the food served on a large plate and share it with your friends. You will quickly find out that everyone (in the room) walks back and forth between the table and the tapping room with cider.
The tapping room with the huge (+20.000 liters / barrel) barrels (many many of them) is quite an experience. The staff is present and tells you about the different types of cider and helps you fill your glass. Quite exciting filling your glass directly out of a 20.000 liter barrel – the drains in the middle of the floor are there for a reason…
We had a very pleasant night at Petritegi and this was the perfect experience in San Sebastian. Very much recommended for couples, business (not formal) and friends. Would not hesitate coming back if I get the chance!
