You need to be a good driver nearly rolled off mountain children crying so fightening! Owner is not hiring a luxury villa 2 small apts. one with no air con. No dishwasher no washing washing machine. When we complained she locked us out of the 3rd bedroom so had to leave a wk early.Fabeine the owner is rude. She would not clean pool. No fresh towels no fresh water. We had 5 cracks in our window screen as its rough track up the mountain. The place is full of wasps so cannot sunbath and constantly being attacked by the. The apartments are riddled with wood lice I, mean thousands. This has to one of the worst holidays. She will also claim your deposit back only got half of it from us. She is a very greedy lady. This is not luxury at all I had more luxury in my own home. She has the luxury in the villa. With garden tables in apartment to eat on.
We loved our stay in Fabienne's place: a great pool, free Wifi, many places to rest around the house and admire the beatiful landscape, bird-watch or read a book. Fabienne was always helpful, gave great advice for instance where to go hiking or shopping or which park is worth visiting. We can only recommend this place whole-heartedly and wish that we have a chance to come back soon.
My family stayed at this property for four days. We loved some things about the property and it truly is a unique and special place. However, when we review it honestly, we feel the need to alert future renters to some things.
DRIVE: The drive to this place is not for normal cars. We would suggest you rent an SUV or Jeep if you plan to drive to this location yourself. It is a near 25 minute drive after you leave the highway on a poorly paved road that turns into a dirt road that is not at all flat. We rented a van that actually made it to the home and back a few times, but our brother’s sedan could not make it and his family had to park below and be taxied by the host. There is not ample warning on Trip Advisor about this road, nor is there a very good description of the drive given on the property’s website… In fact, the owner, as we were leaving the property asked us to please not mention the drive in our review, which should explain a lot.
VIEWS: Upon arriving to the home, you will notice the sweeping views of the ocean. The views from this house are unbeatable. You can see the coast line and the ocean and the mountains and the sunsets. All are breathtaking and lovely. This is the best thing about this property.
SLEEPING ARRANGMENTS: If you are a large group you will find the accommodations awkward. We brought a family of 5 and also had our mother in law with us and our brother’s family of 3… Altogether there were 9 of us. The main house was not really made available to us. The hostess allowed our mother in law to sleep in one room in the main house. The rest of us were distributed among two very small casitas by the pool. We had my family of 5 in a studio that had a double bed in it. My daughter slept out on the pool deck and the hostess had placed 2 single beds in a storage closet under the stairs for my two boys to sleep in. There were no windows in that room and it was very hot, as there is no air conditioning in the casitas. The other casita housed my brother’s family of 3 they had the main room with a double bed and then another cot placed in the same room with the parents.
BATHROOMS: Each casita has its own bathroom. We got only warm water in each casita. Never had a hot shower. The hostess has a poster in each bathroom that asks you not to flush your toilet paper down the toilet. She has provided a small trash can in which you can dispose of your papers after you use them. So, unless you empty this trash out every day, the bathroom begins to stink because Spain is hot in the summer and warms the little trash. You must open the door from the bathroom to the casita so that the air can flow through the tiny house or it gets much too hot. At times, the casita can get a bit stinky from the bathroom smells wafting in with the breeze.
PRIVACY?… yes, the house is very secluded… however the hostess lives in the main house. The main house has a couple of very nice sitting areas and a ping pong table. However, it feels very awkward to enter the house and use these things. We didn’t want to disturb the hostess’s privacy and we didn’t know which areas were available to us at what times of day. At one point, my mother-in-law left the main house to eat breakfast with us, she was then locked out of the house with no access to her room until the hostess emerged from the house to allow her back in. The hosted played games with our kids and invited us for a drink on the night we had food catered by her “chef”. The hostess is friendly and kind. But I was unaware before renting that she would actually be taking up the bulk of the property and that the main home was not truly for guests.
BUGS! There are many bugs here. So, if you are squeamish about such things, beware. There are huge grasshoppers and ample wasps. There were so many wasps that we were uncomfortable eating outside… which was unfortunate, as really, the only place to eat, if you can’t really dine in the main house, is eating outside. My son was stung by a wasp. The hostess had all the right first aid stuff to help him and attended to him without hesitation. There were no bugs in the casitas.
POOLS: The pool is lovely. It is very clean. It overlooks the sea and you can see views from it. The hostess provides towels and ample seating for lounging by the pool.
FARM: There is a working farm on the property. The hostess shared some lovely strawberries from her gardens with us. YUM!
CATS! There are cats in the main home and they wander around the property. The owner’s pets are two cats and the third cat is a stray that hangs around. She asks you not to feed the cats. We were not aware of the cats before renting the property. This would have been a "no deal" for us if we would have known. My husband is extremely allergic. I think this should be mentioned in advertisement of this location.
POWER: The property runs on solar and wind power. It is entirely self-sustaining. Which is great, if you are the owner, but she warned us that we might have to not use power if it ran too low. We never ran too low. We were even able to do a few loads of laundry.
CONNECTIVITY: The phone reception here was poor and the WIFI was even poorer. My husband and his brother actually had to fix the WIFI for the hostess as it wasn’t working when we arrived. Once they got it working it was splotchy at best.
As a side note… The hostess offers to have a “chef at your disposal” for a day or as many days as you’d like during your stay. We took her up on this for one day. From what I can tell, the hostess herself provided the breakfast. A local family provided the lunch and dinner. There was not actually a chef or anyone at our disposal. And the price for this was shocking when we consider what we receive for our money. We could have dined like kings at restaurants in town for the near 90 euro per person that we paid. The hostess failed to take into consideration that 4 of the people were children and were still charged at full price. We didn’t eat even half of the food provided. We were allowed to keep the tortilla that was provided for lunch to eat the next day. However, the hostess gave the leftover paella to the chef’s family instead of ours, which was irksome as we had plenty enough left over to feed the entire family of nine a second day. If you do plan to use this service, be sure to negotiate a more reasonable price than we did and make sure you know exactly what is included with your cost. Also, we were informed mere hours before eating dinner that we needed to pay the chef family in cash that evening. We don’t typically carry 800 euro with us at all times, so we had to drive nearly 2 hours round trip down that horrible road and back to town to find a cash machine to withdraw the money before dinner.
Overall, I think these accommodations should not be advertised as luxury and are overpriced. The views are lovely and the pool is nice. The novelty of the working fully sustainable farm is cute, but my family was expecting luxurious accommodations as advertised. This was a step up from RV camping. When I think of luxury, I think of flushing my paper down the toilet and a nice hot shower. I feel luxury shouldn’t have my kids sleeping in a closet. I feel luxury is not dining with wasps. This is no more than a beautiful home with a kind host who is willing to share her place with you.
