“Not a holiday hotel”
Reviewed 8 December 2013

We had wanted a hotel close to Alicante but the Mio Cid is in the middle of a large residential area. It is a 15 min bus ride to Alicante town (1.45€ single). It is also a 20 minute walk to San Juan beach area. The rooms are of a reasonable size but the decor is very old fashioned. We had unfortunately ordered breakfast for the week and this consisted of the same thing every day. Half a baguette, one slice of cheese, one slice of ham, a glass of orange juice, one cup of coffee and a yoghurt. No variation, same thing given to you every day. The only good thing I could say about this hotel was that the female receptionist was very helpful and went out of her way to help us. You can also hear everything from rooms close by.

Very unprofessional front desk service not attending you as a customer while personal chatting with other employees and no eye contact. A lot of noise transfer from other rooms and poor quality mattresses. No extra blankets nor pillows. Very dark and small rooms that would need redoing. Location thought to be downtown Alicante and they happen to be 6 kilometres away. The rooms are old and no locks from the terrace door to the room. Breakfast very limited and the dinning facilities are definitely for golden age travellers / middle economy pensionists. It was a bad choice.

Stayed here for three nights although we only live 100 kilometres south it was a really nice change & we fell in love with Alicante all over again! The hotel was lovely, very clean, nice rooms with a balcony with a sea view. Ladies check out the shopping center opposite as great shops for ladies, great handbags etc. Travel either way by bus, tram or car it`s all good.

This hotel is in a superb location in a small town outside Alicante city. Near the beach and has a shopping centre across the road with lots of bars and shops. The rooms were absolutely fine and perfectly clean, the only grump was that the 2 twin beds were different lengths so when we put them together that was a laugh but it really didn't matter! We had a room outlooking the roadside but there was no problem with noise at all. We never ate in the hotel other than room service and a drink in the bar, again all fine. The pool area is nice and quiet and the staff are lovely. Granted there is not a lot of English spoken here but that suited us because we went for the culture and to speak the language. Definitely will be returning.

My wife and I stayed here in early August. Had been staying in Torrevieja with friends and had been burning the candle at both ends. We had previously arranged to go to Alicante for two nights on our own and chose Mio Cid. This is a very nice hotel. It is very peaceful around the pool and there was always access to sun beds. The decor was lovely and the staff were very friendly and always helpful. We only ate a pizza so cant comment on the food. The beer was fine though! We chose not to bother trying to find the bus as the receptionist felt it was about 10 mins walk.....and it was hot....and we were lazy...It was about 9-10 euro into town at night but hey..we're on holiday. Alicante was good fun; plenty bars and restaurants...Packed with people. I HAD to see a football game one of the nights. Tried various Irish bars(which unfortunately were Irish in name only{although the staff were very nice}) without success. Eventually,I found a bar called Houston down towards the old town where two lovely Spanish staff got me sorted when I gave them the appropriate codes. Problem solved. Worth taking a little trip into into it on your way to the lovely old town area.....nice to sit and eat among some antique buildings.Beautiful old church there. Would highly recommend Mio Cid and might give another call again.
