“Certainly Worth A Try”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 September 2012

A lot of thought and effort has gone into the dishes served, the presentation is very good indeed. I had three courses, two starters and a main. The fois pate was lovely and the large prawns which were wrapped in what I can only descibe a weetabix were excellent (honestly they tase much better than this description). The beef main course was very good and the sauce on it was so rich it took me back to when meat sauces were all like this - lovely.
The restaurant decor is very nice, quite old world but I liked it and for anyone looking for a nice wine, the list while short had many really good bargains, some actuall cheaper than you can buy retail.
Worth a try if you are in the area.

“Hidden Gem of fine dining (Michelin star without the stars)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2012

We went for dinner at the Amalia on the 8th June after reading the reviews on tripadvisor, the meal was even better than I had expected. We chose the taster menu and a nice bottle of wine from their extensive list. All the courses as they arrived were described, all made with locally sourced produce, all wonderful. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. In fact it the food was reminiscent of the finest Michelin Star offerings, without the usual snootyness this is normally accompanied with.

It really is a hidden gem, so easy to miss being on the second floor above the street (making it quieter), but it is certainly well worth seeking out. The cost was amazing considering the experience, much less than the UK equivalent.

“Worth a visit when you are in Alicante”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2012

Visited Amalia last week with my wife, daughter and her boyfriend. They have no English menu (for which the owner apologised) so we relied on my daughter and boyfriend to translate. I am sure that the waiting staff would have helped if we had not been fortunate enough to be eating with native/fluent Spanish speakers.

Between us we tried both of the tasting menus and dishes from the a la carte section of the menu. The tasting menus were outstanding and probably half the price for equivalent quality in the UK at €25 and €35 respectively. The a la carte menu was not such good value and the dining experience depended on choice of dish - my wife had belly pork and was disappointed but my daughter's boyfriend had the beef dish and was very happy.

Excellent food, service and value especially if you eat from the taster menu.

“Prepared with care”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2011

The kitchen of this restaurant certainly prepares the dishes with passion and care. Excellent choice of wines. Situated on the first floor above shops, not a particularly attractive facade and could be easily missed, so be careful not to pass, as you could regret it.
Certainly not 'pretentious' like some of the other 'better' restaurants in the city.
