Got a really good price for Half Board on the Level as a Melia Rewards member, so my rating is on the basis of excellent value for money given the amenities, food, and service not 5 star luxury.

The good points:
Service on the Level was outstanding. A special thanks to Davina for the efficient check in and allowing us to stay on a little as we had a late flight, also ensuring all queries (e.g. new batteries in TV remote) got sorted really quickly. All the Level staff were polite and gave the impression of wishing to do a good job.

The included snacks and drinks were a treat. Alicante is hot and the cold water and soft drinks were most welcome.

We had a 5th floor room with beach views. If staying a few nights I would recommend a beach view ahead of the marina view on the other side.

The breakfast in the main dining room was well prepared with lots of variety to keep everyone happy. Those wanting a quieter breakfast can take it on the Level with a bit less to choose from.

The less good points:
Going half board I had expected an evening meal in the hotel restaurant based on the reviews of other customers. The "Terra" restaurant is currently closed for the evenings with the evening meal being a very extensive buffet including a choice of meat and fish cooked to order. The choice was great and I cannot grumble at the price we paid, but it lacked the intimate atmosphere of a restaurant with waiting service.

The pool is too small for anything other than cooling off. However, the beach is on the doorstep and good for a 7am swim to work up an appetite before breakfast.

Transport:
The C6 bus runs from the airport to the hotel every 20 mins. Use this rather than taxis to save money. The 21 and 22 buses also stop outside to go to the beaches at San Juan. Bus fares are very cheap compared to the UK. Note the tram service to the hotel stopped running on 1st July.

My wife and me stayed there for a couple of Days during visiting some Friends near there in alicante and this Melia Hotel was a good Choice. Normal good middle Class Standard (as ususally in those Hotels from that Company), The location was bvery good - directly at the Sea and only few minutes away from the Alicante Center - all is good and clean. Very friendly Staff at the Reception. They did also speak good english.

My husband stayed here for the first week in July and we had strong reservations about our choice after reading many negative comments on trip advisor prior to us leaving. Firstly, the location is AMAZING although be prepared, the access to the reception of the hotel is not on the beach side but around the corner down the street a couple of minutes walk. We took the bus to and from the airport which stops right outside the hotel, very quick and cheap. No need to pay for a taxi!
The girl at reception was lovely, pleasant and very helpful, allowing us to select from a clear map of the hotel, our sea view room. We had booked a standard room hoping for a sea view but were told that this would cost extra, 20 euros a night. Obviously when the hotel is quieter it's possible to get a sea view room for free but with the hotel so busy we decided to pay the extra. Unfortunately a sea view room wasn't free on our first night so we stayed in a marina view room for the first and then transferred over to the new room the next morning. To be fair the marina view room was lovely and very quiet. We wouldn't have been disappointed if we had to spend every night there. The sea view room was slightly bigger and yes, the view was stunning(room 4051)
Breakfast was great, a very good selection and served in a lovely bright dining room. We managed to avoid the queues by eating around 9 each day.
We didn't use the pool. Why would you with such a beautiful beach at your doorstep!
We enjoyed a drink in the hotel bar most nights before eating out. Pleasant service, delicious cocktails but unfortunately lacking in atmosphere.
Overall we were very pleased with our choice and were not disturbed by work noise which everyone else complained about. All aspects of the hotel get top marks except for atmosphere/ambience and information for guests. There were no leaflets/paper work in the rooms or lobby giving information about the area. We were given a map after asking someone at reception - they were hidden behind the desk! After all, we were tourists, new to Alicante, but had to find out everything ourselves and make a visit to the tourist info centre in town which to be honest wasn't great. It would also have been lovely if the hotel provided some type of evening entertainment to create a better holiday atmosphere but it seemed to cater more for the business guest.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high floor for better views and quieter nights.

We stayed in a suite on The Level (Free bar and free mini bar) with a huge corner room (5001) with great views over looking the beach and Jacuzzi bath and everything you would need including a good selection on English channels on the TV.

A very long walk to our room though.

The Level breakfast area was nice but a larger selection would have been appreciated and also restocked as not much left and we were not that late.

Pool was very small and no sunbeds left and food rather expensive around the pool but good.

There was building work going on but this didn't bother us at all.

Good service throughout and would like to return as a great location.

Was rather more expensive than other hotels.

Room Tip: Ash for a sea view room. Odd numbers were sea view. Also worth booking a suite.
