Got a really good price for Half Board on the Level as a Melia Rewards member, so my rating is on the basis of excellent value for money given the amenities, food, and service not 5 star luxury.
The good points:
Service on the Level was outstanding. A special thanks to Davina for the efficient check in and allowing us to stay on a little as we had a late flight, also ensuring all queries (e.g. new batteries in TV remote) got sorted really quickly. All the Level staff were polite and gave the impression of wishing to do a good job.
The included snacks and drinks were a treat. Alicante is hot and the cold water and soft drinks were most welcome.
We had a 5th floor room with beach views. If staying a few nights I would recommend a beach view ahead of the marina view on the other side.
The breakfast in the main dining room was well prepared with lots of variety to keep everyone happy. Those wanting a quieter breakfast can take it on the Level with a bit less to choose from.
The less good points:
Going half board I had expected an evening meal in the hotel restaurant based on the reviews of other customers. The "Terra" restaurant is currently closed for the evenings with the evening meal being a very extensive buffet including a choice of meat and fish cooked to order. The choice was great and I cannot grumble at the price we paid, but it lacked the intimate atmosphere of a restaurant with waiting service.
The pool is too small for anything other than cooling off. However, the beach is on the doorstep and good for a 7am swim to work up an appetite before breakfast.
The C6 bus runs from the airport to the hotel every 20 mins. Use this rather than taxis to save money. The 21 and 22 buses also stop outside to go to the beaches at San Juan. Bus fares are very cheap compared to the UK. Note the tram service to the hotel stopped running on 1st July.
