“Location just perfect...”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

We very much enjoyed our stay in the Melia Alicante...you cannot beat the location, literally on the beach and overlooking the beautiful Esplanade De Espana and Marina..so convenient for the excellent choice of restaurants and to the city centre..had a very comfortable stay...could not fault the hotel in any way for facilities and for location..though it is a very large hotel it is efficiently run and we have no fault to find with this hotel per se

However, our only criticism is that, in our opinion, we would have liked the staff to have been more personable..i hasten to add that no staff member that we came in contact with was rude or inefficient in any way but we would have liked if they had been more friendly and welcoming at reception instead of being simply "efficient"...we thought the greeting when we arrived on our first night at the reception was very impersonal and even though we did not have many dealings with staff at reception throughout our stay, there was no warmth or friendliness generally in our experience .I appreciate the staff deals with large numbers of people each day in such a big hotel but a warm and friendly smile, in our opinion, which does not cost anything, on first arrival makes one feel immediately relaxed, that someone has arrived somewhere special and sets a positive tone for the whole stay ...

Room Tip: Ask for quiet room overlooking the beach

Hotel is in the best location....practically on the beach which is a beautiful beach....The water stays shallow quite far out so our young kids could play safely in the water. Everything is within walking distance. I can't fault the rooms. ..really big and the family room was great for us and our 2 kids...2 separate rooms....very clean and our bed was massive and comfy. 2 bathrooms...2 balconys with beautiful views of the sea. Breakfast was ok... plenty of pastries but the fried breakfast didn't look appetising at all.

Ok the cons; The people staying at the hotel and the staff seem to really dislike children....my kids didn't get a smile out of anyone and there wasn't anything for the kids to do at all at the hotel...maybe its the time of year I don't know. But a ten min walk from the hotel will take you to a little fairground type place...rides and bouncy castles etc. The other thing.... I don't think we ate one nice meal in Alicante...everything is so salty....really overpriced too....we spent £1000 for four of us for one week just on eating out...hardly any alcohol in that too.

Saying that.... I would return....purely cos the hotel rooms were nice....the beach so close....the airport transfer takes 15 mins max..... 2 hr and 10 minute flight....so when you have kids going somewhere like this in half term was less hassle

Most of the staff in the hotel were very very nice and polite especially staff and the Tara Restaurant made us felt at home and the food was sooo lovely both breakfast and dinner(half-board). (Only a few staff at the reception a bit huffing and puffing made me felt uncountable) The cleaner staff also were very nice and polite too. We can't wait to go back there again.

We have stayed here before and knew the hotel. Delighted to say that the standards haven't slipped. This hotel is an ideal location from which to explore the city, beach, marina & castle, everything within walking distance.
Not the prettiest of hotels to look at, but don't let this put you off. The hotel is being modernised, as some rooms are a little dated but this wouldn't stop us returning again.
A junior suite is an ideal size for a family of four.
The pool area is small (as is generally the case with city hotels) and getting a sunbed around the actual pool can be tricky in the mornings, however, there is also a decked sunbathing area so we were able to get sunbeds when required. With it's location on the beach, we preferred to go there anyway, followed by a dip in the pool for the kids before returning to our room - best of both worlds.
We opted for bed & breakfast, as the local restaurants are fantastic. The setting for breakfast is fab and there is also a good selection on offer.
There is access to an indoor pool (the outdoor pool is unheated and when we travelled it was too cold for the adults to brave it!), sauna & Jacuzzi at the health club that is within the hotel building, but this was at an extra cost. The health club could do with modernising, but this isn't actually part of the hotel.
Service superb.
Cleanliness of rooms and hotel also superb.
We love Alicante for a city break and will be returning there and to this hotel soon.

Excellent location, next to the lovely beach promenade and next to the Marina. Breakfast was quite decent with s lit of options and the hall overlooking the beach.
The room was pretty bad. It was pretty hot outside and the air con was not working. The bathtub was leaking.
We probably would stay there again since Alicante has very few good hotels.

You couldn't find a better location - we had a junior suite on the 4th floor with a sea view and it was a fabulous view. You get the morning sun on this side of the hotel and the only "noise" was the sea which was very relaxing. I know the Marina side gets the afternoon sun but in the summer when it's very hot I think a shaded room would be better and the marina side could be noisy. Apparently the 3rd floor has been updated so next time would request a room there, ours was very pleasant and always spotless. We did make the mistake of booking half board the restaurant is old fashioned and the food is generally not good and there are a lot of places to eat in Alicante one place in particular we enjoyed was El Portal .
The breakfast was very good lots of choice and the view of the beach is great. Generally the staff are lovely my favourite was Cinthia. I have to agree with some previous comments about reception some of the front of hours team didn't seem interested but they are not all bad and were waited for the one who had a smile unfortunately I don't remember her name.
I would return to this hotel

Room Tip: Marina room afternoon sun road and potential noise from the Casino - sea view morning sun and only t...

Just back from a 5 day break in Alicante. Chose this Hotel mainly because of the perfect location and the fact of the Level experience! The hotel isn't a smart boutique hotel but it's position right with the beach and seaviews on one side and marina on the other more than made up for the slightly 70's appearance! The Level on the 5th floor has its own check in , small outdoor terrace and lounge with every drink available( all included in the room tariff) and superb snacks served at different times through the day. We more than made use of these facilities! Breakfast in the main restaurant was superb! Vast choices, fresh filter coffee brought to the table and attentive waiter service. We couldn't fault it. Small swimming pool and sun terrace but we could get loungers if we wanted them. The city had everything, we enjoyed walking to the Castle, the Promenade, the shopping centres, the museums, the beach and the many bars and restaurants. Very easy to catch the C6 city bus from Alicante airport directly to the Hotel, less expensive than a taxi and hardly anyone on it!
The only fault we could find was,the hotel entrance has an off putting smell of drains and some areas need a facelift but the hotel says it is being refurbished.
Would certainly return to Alicante and will definitely choose this hotel and a Level room again!
