Situated right on the beach and next to the port and 5 minutes from town centre......we upgraded to executive room/level and enjoyed all the benefits of a private pool, sunloungers- fabulous lounge/restaurant area including evening sax player/cocktails and breakfast - almost all day snacking available too......

Just checked in yesterday in the hotel and I am still impressed with Victoria's customer service at the desk!. Check in was smooth and easy she informed us of all the services provided at the hotel and she went the extra mile to assign all of our rooms on the same floor so we could be next to each other. Rooms are amazing; remodeled, bright, spotless and ovelooking the ocean. Thank you Victoria and the entire team at Melia Alicante kudos!!!!!!

Would definitely recommend this hotel. It merits it's 4* rating, friendly staff easy check-in. Really nice foyer and reception area, free wifi throughout the hotel. Room was a good size, clean, comfortable beds, good sized bathroom and clean, maid service everyday, nice balcony we had a sea view on the 4th floor. Very good breakfast lots of variety, big dining hall so plenty of places to sit and it never had a canteen feel to it. The waiting on staff were friendly and cleared plates very quickly. The only downside was the pool, it's too small for the size of the hotel, we only went once went to the beach everyday, nice beach. Be aware the sunbeds are expensive to hire 6 euros for one 18 for two!! Over all would stay again..

Room tip: High floor with sea view, would be the best room to stay in

Melia Alicante is a wonderful hotel close to the beach. The staff are lovely and do all they can to ensure you have a great stay. The rooms are excellent with good facilities. It has lots of great bars and restaurants nearby with good shopping a walk away. This was our second stay and we hope to return soon.

Firstly, the positives of this hotel are definitely the location - right on Postiguet beach. So if you like beach holidays, I would recommend this hotel. Although saying that, this beach is probably not the best in Alicante (I'm only guessing having done a little research!). Postiguet beach is extremely packed, a fair bit of litter around (some not very nice at all!), a brown sludge part near to the rocks but otherwise sea is clear and just sand underneath your feet. There are lifeguards, a large inflatable park on the sea (extra charge) and 2 sun beds/umbrella for 18euros. Nice cafe and walkway right by beach. So this hotel has beach 2 mins walk away and the harbour 2 mins walk the other side. Views from hotel balcony are either sea or harbour (sea being best). However, the major downside to this very large hotel - about 550 rooms I think - is their pool. Extremely small for this size of hotel and not a particularly amazing surrounding area either. Fake grass surround is good, less slippery, however, competition for sun beds is high! Especially the flatter, larger ones, of which there is only about 40? Most sun beds are this weird low down curved shape (see attached photo). Obviously you cannot really lie on your front! I suggest the hotel would be more popular with the larger flat sun beds. The pool itself is almost permanently in the shade (except for a small square corner, and that disappears by 5pm). The hotel photos of the pool are very deceptive, and having been taken at sunset makes it look so much more attractive than it actually is! Do not be fooled! Very noisy round pool, kids shouting, splashing - as to be expected, but as sun beds are so close and cramped, it will affect you more. The sunbathing area overlooking the harbour is better - away from pool - but again, not particularly great surroundings , and everything is overshadowed by the five imposing floors of the hotel - which cast shade. Also the toilets in this area absolutely stink! They have a sewage problem which the hotel needs to sort out as soon as possible! Please do for future guests. If you like a holiday which centres mainly around a pool area, I would NOT advise this hotel - only if you prefer the beach. There are metal steps (quite steep) as a quick route to beach (you don't have to use them to get to beach), and I saw an elderly lady slip on the rather wet top 'landing' part. Can I suggest that the hotel puts some rubber mats there before a bad accident happens! Also the entry system back in to hotel rarely worked, and people nearby have to let you in. A handy kiosk outside hotel sells drinks/newspapers very cheap, as does a vendor on the beach. Hotel is clean and tidy, but a little tired looking in rooms and on balcony. Sea view on our 4th floor rooms was nice but the view is restricted by imposing walls either side. You can only really look ahead, but this may be only some rooms. Breakfast is great, and this is one area I applaud the hotel for catering efficiently for a very large amount if people. There is a queue sometimes for breakfast especially around 9.30am (breakfast 7.30 - 10.30), but I found this diminished quickly. Everything to be found eg. Egg station, meats, cheeses, paella, bacon, sausages, jams, croissants, cereals - even champagne (cava) if you want! I still dream of hotels that provide veggie sausages! (only one ever I have found to provide this is Hilton Abu Dhabi - well done!). Towels provided by hotel are good - soft, large and in excellent condition. This hotel offers The Level (adults only - can't say much about it except that looking at their exclusive pool area - it is very small and mostly in shade!). Another part has a larger pool with covering - but swim hats have to be worn! The lady who dealt with us at reception was brilliant - Mayte - very professional, efficient and friendly, so I'm impressed with reception staff - all helpful and informative. However, would I return? Not to this hotel - I love Alicante, but would explore away from the centre.

Room tip: Sea views on left side of hotel. Higher floors less noisy.
