“Sublime experience.”
Reviewed 18 July 2013

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary and chose to do this with a late dinner at Casa Alfonso. We have ordered table at 21:00 but noted that most other guests arrived around 22. We had difficulty to find the place but managed. We entered the restaurant through the 'wrong door' which led us into a nice outside Tapas restaurant - also owned by Alfonso Egea and called Terraza Jardin. It looked very nice, but our table was in the main restaurant where we got a very nice table with a view to the garden. We could order between 2 menu's - a large and a medium, and then of course a la carte. We chose the medium one and the accompanying wine menu. We got 5 appetizers - 2 starters and 2 main courses plus dessert. The food was excellent. Very tasty and well presented - and nicely served by the one waiter that spoke English. Warm homebaked bread and olive oil with salt provided at the beginning and more wine that we actually could drink.
The waiters were rather busy and sometime he forgot to explain the wine - but when we asked, he immediately presented it. Very nice and relaxing evening with good food in nice surroundings and the total bill was 170 euro which we considered very cheap for this quality treatment.

“A gem”
Reviewed 9 July 2013

I have been to Casa Alfonso 3 years in a row when on holiday in the area.
The food is fantastic, whatever the format one chooses: The more formal and larger tasting menu that we had last July and that included a string of great dishes, starting from lovely morsels, such as a potato foam with truffle oil, or a lightly textured foie with honeycomb accompanied by a glass of a deliciously cold local moscatel wine, to a very memorable lobster in orange miso, a fabulous fillet of hake with hazelnut cream and beef with a red wine reduction and an accompanying mushroom that packed a punch of flavour. The wine list is huge but went with a local Bullas red when it came to the meat, having started with cava for appetizer and a Ribeiro white.
This time, we went for the tapas menu, which we had in the more informal garden settings.
The dishes -some smaller versions of the larger menu dishes, carry the same quality and perfect execution of the main restaurant, and indeed, though this section is officially a separate entity, called Entrecolycol with a separate entrance, it is the Michelin starred Alfonso Egea himself on the stoves.
Casa Alfonso is only open in the Summer months, and the garden only for the peak of the season. We have never had to book as this part of Spain is very quiet, with the exception of August. For visitors to Torrevieja or El mar Menor and surrounds, who are after a quality gastronomic experience, a trip to Casa Alfonso is well worth it.

“awful”
Reviewed 14 May 2013

We chose one of the options from the menu which was express, a strange combination of food and basically little blobs of different food, the main course consisted of four teeny weeny slices of nearly raw duck and that was it, for our taste and we do eat out a lot this was truly awful, and might I add very very expensive for what it was, can honestly say worse meal I have ever had, certainly will not be back there again. No atmosphere either was my husbands birthday treat and it ended up being the worst birthday of his life.

“Great food and atmosphere, mediocre service”
Reviewed 13 July 2012

A great place to enjoy a wonderful lunch, nice atmosphere and a beautiful garden surrounding. The food was creative and full of flavours. Sadly, the service was not up to standard, it was good until the restaurant got crowded, then it got out of control, wrong food and drinks arrived on our table and ages between each course. Hope next time the service will match the food and atmosphere.
