“Lovely surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 February 2014

Didn't realise this was a little French restaurant before we entered. It was very quaint! The food was delicious! We had a cheese platter to start, my husband had a gorgeous steak I had the cod then we had a lovely dessert afterwards. The service was nice, overall a lovely evening

“Menu del dia”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 December 2013

We have previously been for menú of the day, excellent food & portion size, but returned & was disappointed to find the portion size reduced greatly... food came in small terracotta pot with a few chips in a glass, had to try & get the owners attention to ask for coffee as he was busy talking. Its sad when they reduce portion size greatly as I feel they reduce future customers, as people dont return. We had to go looking for the owner also to get the bill as he was busy talking in the back of the restaurant. ( we could have walked out). I have to say again the food was excellent, but I went away still hungry.

“A slice of Montmartre in Alicante”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 October 2013 via mobile

Prior to a mornings shopping in Alicante, walking from the port area we noticed a much smarter than usual restaurant in one of the recently gentrified side streets leading up to Corte Ingles. The daily 3 course menu(12euros ) was written up in French and English and appeared very enticing. On our return we were welcomed heartily by host Marcel who explained the menu in a mixture of English, French and Spanish which sounded most agreeable in all languages. The meal, with a good value bottle of house red, was fine in all departments and fortified us for more shopping.

“Wonderful bistro with great food and a charming French host”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 October 2013

We ate here whilst on a 5 day trip to Alicante to visit our Spanish friends. We decided to spend one night on our own and wandered a little from the main streets of the city. This bistro is situated in a narrow street populated by other restaurants and tapas bars. Very much a pavement culture with chairs and tables outside where you can watch the world go by. As we had already decided we wanted a steak, we checked menus as we passed by. There were two blackboards outside with all the specials of the day on and the chairs looked comfy so we sat down. We were made most welcome and the menus and options fully explained. We asked if we could have the entrecôte with chips and a small salad as we didn't feel like any sauces, just plain good food. The waiter said absolutely no problem. We ordered 2 beers and the food arrived after about 15 minutes. It was presented very nicely with the salad and we started to eat. The steak, I have to say, was one of the best entrecôte I have ever had. Cooked to perfection. The salad was delicious with French dressing and the chips were home made thick cut in their skins. A refreshing change from frozen oven style chips. We later discovered that the meat was imported from France. The waiter was patient and charming as his English was limited and although we speak Spanish, our French is extremely limited. After the meal he asked did we want desert, which we didn't but my husband ordered a cafe solo (small Spanish strong black coffee) when I asked for tea he presented me with a lovely box with various speciality teas inside. I chose a mint tea which was excellent for digestion and was delicious. The bill came to €54 for 4 beers, two meals and the coffee and tea. We would not hesitate to recommend this bistro to anyone visiting Alicante. The food was perfect and the service excellent.

“What a fabulous find - excellent bistro”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 September 2013

We were looking for a table to eat when all the Spanish were and stumbled across this little gem. The waiter / owner was so helpful and pleasant is giving us a table outside that had just come free. We opted for a 12 euro fixed menu which was amazing value - pâté and salad, followed by a choice of salmon or pork with moose or ice cream to finish. Complimented by an excellent wine list we thoroughly enjoyed an excellent value for money evening and if anyone deserves to succeed in the restaurant business, then it's the owner of Bistro LE Kanotier . Thanks and bientot
