“Great hotel, bad surroundings”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

The AC is a very nice facility, great rooms and staff. I was concerned about how we would be treated as African Americans...but that concern went away after check in. The staff was very accommodating! The area around the hotel is challenging to say the least. Lots of construction makes for bad views looking out of your window. We were only there for a day so we didn't let that bother us too much. The hotel is away from the hustle of the other tourist locations which makes it a quiet refuge when you need one. One thing that was interesting was that wifi is free in the common areas of the hotel, but was available for a fee if you wanted it in your room. Over all this is a place I could come back to!

Hotel is super, location is a little out of town but don't be put off by the 'brown field' sites around. The area appeared safe during the day and evening. It's only 20 mins walk to the beach and less to the old town, the walk is very nice along the marble tiled walk way lined with fig trees and ancient rubber trees. If you'd rather not walk the bus (number 21 or 23) picks you up about 5 minutes walk away along Avenue de Oscar Espla is €1.45 each. There's a great cafe along this road too which was ideal for breakfast.

The hop on hop off bus for the tourist tour of Alicante (including the shops, Castle of Santa Barbara and the beach) picks you up from the bus station only a couple of minutes away.

The hotel rooms were good, large and with efficient air conditioning. Useful fridges, comfortable bed and blackout curtains to help you sleep well.

The pool area is small but go prepared to lie on a towel on the decking and you'll be fine, the pool is just big enough to swim in (about 15m by 5m) but perfect to cool down and relax.

As a Marriott it lives up to their brand expectation.

Room Tip: Ask for a high up room, south facing will give you the views of the sea but the sun all day, north f...

We stayed here for one night and were a bit disappointed at check-in to be told that we could not have the 'non-smoking double' room that we had booked and had to have a 'twin set up as double room instead' (not quite sure what was going on here as the room as literally two singles fitted where a double should be in the space on the headboard between the bedside 'shelves').

The room however was very clean and spacious. Plenty of wardrobe space and a very nice bathroom with a nice big bath, fluffy towels and a very powerful shower. Nice toiletries provided and very comfy beds with a very effective air con unit. Only criticism of the room would be that the mirror is fitted on the back of the door and that area is too dark to do make-up, so the only place to do make-up is in the bathroom (not ideal if your husband is in the shower as the mirror in there steams up) not a big deal but would be helpful.

The breakfast has a good range of breads, pastries, fruit, yogurt, meats and cheeses - a standard self-service buffet. There also appeared to be plenty of other facilities available including a bar, restaurant, pool etc but we did not use those.

So why only average - if you opened the curtains you looked out on to rubble, the car park is far to tight to maneuver in (especially when some vehicles in there are far to big for the spaces so are parked in the turning areas) and you have to walk through a lot of prostitutes to get back on an evening. Also I know that all hotels have the 'we can't guarantee the room you have booked policy but they could at least try when you have requested a non-smoking room for medical reasons - would they tell a wheelchair user the non-adapted room was unavailable? They are the only real problems - however that being said I would stay here overnight again as it is very good value.

Room Tip: You can ask but they literally put you in the rooms they have available so is there any point?

Thank you very much for your review of your stay. I hope the surrounding will be much better the next time you come, as road works are being carried out right now and this will make the environment will improve considerably. Please accept my sinceres apologies for staying in a smoking room, the hotel was fully booked and we did not have any other room available but I am pleased to inform you that we are working to reduce the smoking rooms and avoid this could happen again. We greatly appreciate your choice and your confidence and we hope your next experience in the hotel will be thoroughly enjoyable.

Loved the room, loved the complimentary minibar! Bed was amazing, shower and bath were amazing.

Literally only two things to say that we weren't outstandingly happy with, but they're only little things:- one of them is that the rooftop pool is TINY. We got up there and there were about 8-10 sunbeds around it, all taken, and this tiny pool that only a handful of people could be in at the same time comfortably. You could tell that some people had been up there all day, too, which is a shame for others that want to use it. Maybe if they had a time limit ticket system or so, so a guaranteed hour per room of pool use at a selected time.. Any longer and you pay more or something, would have been ideal. Same with the Jacuzzi and the Sauna.

The other was that the restaurant seemed particularly expensive- but then this wasn't too much of an issue as there were so many places on the sea front to eat that we weren't planning to eat at the restaurant anyway!

Would happily come back.

Just returned from a weeks stay at AC and don't usually bother with reviews but must share my views. The hotel is spotless and most of the staff speak good English. One particular member of staff (Miriam) went beyond the call of duty when we had problems with an auto bank in the city. Despite being late at night, she just wouldn't give up until she got us in contact with our bank in Ireland. Food and drink reasonably priced in comparison to other establishments in the vicinity. Well recommended

Arrived here at 03.45hrs in the morning to a warm welcome and got checked in quickly. The hotel has a modern feel and the room was clean with all you would expect from this type of establishment. Buffet breakfast is good with plenty to choose from (even chocolate doughnuts!)
Couple of negatives are the bar / restaurant doesn't have a great deal of choice food wise, the pool area has very limited loungers, we never got one and the Jacuzzi area could do with some tlc. If I went back to Alicante I would stop there again, even though the walk into town / beach is up to 20 minutes which can be trying in the heat. In summary the hotel does not bill itself as a holiday destination but is very welcoming all the same.

Stayed here one night as a stopover. Found the staff at this hotel very welcoming and friendly. The hotel is quite modern and stylish, with comfortable rooms as you would expect. The service I found was top rate, would definitely suit business types more than holidaymakers in my opinion, only because as others have mentioned the pool area on the roof was very small and cramped.
The location is good , I walked from the train station with a large suitcase in tow in about ten minutes no problem. Also if you need to get to the airport the C6 bus runs every 20/ 30 mins from 06.00am , and only takes about 15 minutes ,you can pick the bus up just outside the hotel. Save on the taxi, as this only costs a couple of euros! Breakfast was also very good with a nice selection of breads, juices, continental style etc. Would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Alicante.
