We arrived in Alicante late and, next to our hotel - the Hospes Amerigo, was a tapas bar so we walked in. The owner explained they were not really open but trying dishes out on friends and invited us to stay. Two glasses of wine and some superb food later they refused to let us pay and told us they have another place 'round the corner' - Taberna del Gourmet. So, we went the day after. It was equally good. Some lovely uncomplicated dishes balanced with others showing very capable cooking; and ingredients which have been selected with taste and care for their quality. Excellent wine too. This is not a cheap option but it is very, very high quality and very capably served and presented. I wouldn't hesitate to reccommend this restaurant and all the signs are that their new venture will be just as good. You can get cheaper, but I haven't found better in the city.

This is the kind of place that you cannot forget. The restaurant is lovely, well furnished with very nice painting on the wall. The plates are very clean, nice decorated in a lelgant manner. The service is very professional, every customer is warmly welcomed with smile, care and good attention. But most of all is the food. In case your are an addict of the "French cuisine", forget France for a moment and stay in Spain. Foie gras, lobster à l'Armoricaine, Tournedos Rossini, and so many tasty things for your own pleasure. Also, they have an excellant Cava for the region which deserves to be appreciated. For a romantic dinner or in family, do not hesitate to go to this restaurant, problably one of the best in the province of Valencia. Please enjoy it !

We were recommended La Taberna del Gourmet for a special evening with family; good food and service in a relaxed atmosphere. The recommendation was sound! La Taberna is a wine bar and deli as well as a restaurant so at the entrance one is greeted by the sight of delicious looking food and an array of wines. We were led to our table by welcoming staff, brought the menus and helped to chose the food and wine. We selected a range of tapas, all of which were delicious. Of special note was the bread with tomato and the spinach with raisins and pinenuts. Unusually for Spain the desserts were excellent as was the interesting choice of sweet wines. It wasn't a cheap evening but was definitely value for money and a first class experience.

Forget who you may see there, if anyone of note, be more worried of how they will serve you.
Hurried, course after course thrown at you. We even witnessed a man having to rescue the mussels from the serving dish with his fingerws, as the waiter had decided to take them away, as in his other hand was the next dish, which had also been served too early.
Also watch when ordering water. Small bottle served but 1 litre charged for.
